What if i dont have a home in the US with a server to connect to. Can I just use a regular VPN service to make it look like im in the US somewhere even though im not?
It depends on the reason why you are using a VPN but the answer to your question is yes. You can use a public VPN service and have an IP address from that service anywhere around the world. You can setup a second server at a different location in the same city preferably and switch between the two. It doesn’t make sense to have two at one location because the typical issue that makes them unavailable is a power or internet outage.

I have purchased 2 GL-iNet AXT1800 routers & Nord VPN. My remote job in the U.S. requires 300 mbps download and 30 mbps upload speeds. Will I retain this speed abroad or do I need to increase my U.S. speeds to settle on 300/30 abroad?
I think it’s underpowered and lacks features that make it not a device I would recommend. For a few dollars more you could get a much better device with the slate 1300 or get the best with the 1800
