Yes. The rappers do their own singing when they need to,they don't lip sync to anyone else's voices. It's possible to be a rapper and sing or to be a singer and rap. They're just talented.

Also, now you can watch the videos of Suga's solo concerts in the States before he went to the military! He has a good voice and is a master producer, piano player, guitar player, etc. Some of the concert was Suga rapping, but he also sang, accompanying himself on guitar or piano. His concerts were all sold out!

Loved your amazement and confusion at J-Hope and Suga. As the other comments have said - yes it is them singing. No lip syncing for our boys. There are lots of times J-Hope has sung - the two that come to mind are Spring Day (the opening lines are him) and his song Mama. Suga incorporated singing in his recent solo world tour. They never cease to amaze.

All music videos are lip synced, (with their own voices for sure!), watch any behind-the-scenes making-of videos they have. This is just a normal part of the producing process (which Suga and JHope are often involved in as co-producers), and not to be mistaken for lack of vocal talent.

This song made me ARMY. I've been depressed for years and had stopped listening to music for over a decade until I heard JK & Charley Puth Left and Right in my daughter's car. That song made me curious and the BTS journey began. When BTS gave me Permission to Dance I became ARMY.
I had also stopped listening to music for years - and it had been such a passion before then. Was watching the World Cup last year and saw and heard Jungkook and that sent me down the rabbit hole. BTS brought back the joy of music and I am so thankful. PTD was an early song I heard as well and it has always been one of my favorites - one of many.
This day this video was released was a roller coaster of emotions. First it had a teaser which clarified that the concept was about the end of Covid. Then we, the fans, watched the video, obviously in English and I felt seen with so many Westerners who portrayed someone like me. As the day continued, realizing they were using sign language in the choreography inviting the hard of hearing to dance, too, I was just crying happy tears after another batch of happy tears. Unfortunately many BTS fans hated the Western, all English direction the group was going. There were angry messages and people quitting army. It was popping the purple balloons in my heart, but I just spent the time looking through that last crowd scene - it has everyone Bang Si Hyuk, now Chairman of the Board of Hybe , and Son Song Deuk, then choreographer, now executive creator, and everyone who worked on the shoot, including Son Song Deuk’s little boy who was in the video.
Their English songs are what drew me into BTS and the whole Covid time but I’m so glad I got to discover them and now get to go back and see everything they did before I knew them.
It's not that deep for lots of us. We simply like it better when they write their own songs. The English trilogy is fun, but doesn't have the personal "feel" of their korean work, that's all.
They both can sing and I feel that JHope sings beautifully. These guys can do it all. Love them, miss them.

You’re going to get this answer a ton but yes each member is indeed singing the parts they represents both Yoongi(Suga) and Jhope have beautiful voices. This video was about all seven being together and bringing joy with the pandemic still going. It was basically saying even with the world as it is we can still find joy. Shortly after this the concerts were confirmed for the Permission to Dance Tour so it was also saying hey we don’t need to wait this is happening! They taught their whole crew the choreo at the end of the video which was spontaneous and they chose to put it at the end.

It’s so funny that Jimin is wearing the western fit looonng before Ryan wore it in Barbie. Kpop style is alwys in the forefront of fashion trends. (Yes Ryan even acknowledged it).
I was surprised too when I first realized that J-Hope had a good singing voice, and so does Suga. They have more songs where J-Hope has singing parts. I only realized this recently. Thank you for the video. Permission to Dance is my current hype song. I love it so much!

Love the reaction! Not sure if mention before, but as a side note, this was written Ed Sheeran, also, the black outfit worn by Jimin was also worn in the new Barbie move by Ken, Ryan Gosling. Gosling became aware of the fact and did a video were he gifted Jimin the guitar he used in the movie. Also, you should check out Suga (feature in That That , by Psy) Suga, wrote, produced, preformed, sang, in mv and a live concert. I would watch MV first. They also have the making of mv as well as other videos like Suga learning the dance. They , BTS do not lip sync, I am pretty Suga hates that kind of stuff as well as auto tune. Both Suga and Jhope sing as well as rap. I know it is shocking how multi talented they all are. Not just with music, but painting, and other activities. Its crazy. Blessings! My favorite singing from the rap line:
For J-hope, I love "Equal Sign" and "Future" (singing and rapping).
For RM, my favorites are "Forg_tful" (full singing) and "Bicycle" (singing and rapping).
For Suga, the songs are better experienced as live performances so I included my favorite fancam: "Life Goes On" (BTSPurpleYou, full singing) and "Dear My Friend" (Dt sugA, singing and rapping).
Dear My Friend makes me cry everytime! Such a personal song for him yet it's so relatable.

J-Hope is a rapper and subvocalist ( You need to watch Hobipalooza 😊 to really appreciate J-Hope's talents). The same way, JK is a vocalist and subrapper. The king of adkibs is JK, but Jimin and Jin do some, too.
When they started their career, they had different specializations, but nowadays all of them sing and dance! RM and Suga are working on their vocals skills ❤

Nathan, I remember watching this for the first time and being amazed the rappers were SINGING! You are not the only one! This song was when so many of us felt so low during the pandemic and it brought comfort and hope that we would get through it and sing and dance together again! I love that in the end the crew came out and they all danced joyfully together! Once again, BTS bringing us through hard times. Thanks for your excellent music insider review! I love this song & video! Just a happy tune meant to cheer up the world as we navigated COVID. I really love the sign language they incorporated into the choreo. I saw a video that showed deaf children watching this video and they realized what BTS was singing about by watching the sign language. Pretty soon the kids were up dancing too! Welcome back! Yes, J-Hope actually has a great voice; very clean, and then sometimes low and growly. Suga has said he wants to be a better singer as well, and he has been working on that. Jungkook does the guide versions of their songs, and many/most of the ad-libs are his, but the one you noted was done by Jin. The fact that they included sign language is just another facet of how inclusive they are as a group. They are all so hard-working and talented, and this video was pure fun during the pandemic.
J-Hope, Suga and RM are all singing the parts that are represented with them in the MV. All of them can sing, the rappers of the group just don't do it as often as the main vocalists. It's always a treat when we get them singing though, I always love it. For me, I think that's why one of Suga's solo songs (under the name Agust D) works so well- Amygdala.
If you would like to check out a live vocal, they did perform this at the UN general assembly and they were all singing live. From what I understand from other Army, they're just notoriously bad at lip syncing to their own songs in music videos

I could tell straightaway that Suga’s and J-Hope’s speaking voice quality is reflected in their singing voice, even if I had been new to this video. BTS’ integrity would not allow the 2 rappers lip-sync over another member’s singing.
Check Hobi and Yoongi’s solo work .. they can both sing and are both singing on this track. Everyone is singing their parts .. I’m kind of shocked you can’t at least identify the vocal line’s individual voices by now!

Hobi and Suga definitely both sing. They both sing in Film Out, Suga has a song called SeeSaw where he sings (I Love this dang song so much! I never tire of hearing it.) Hobi sings a song about his mother called Mama. It’s very endearing. If I remember correctly Ed Sheeran helped in producing Permission to Dance. If you watch the video again, you will see that they are doing sign language for our fellow ARMY that are deaf. It shows that BTS cares so much about all of their fans so much and we definitely love them so very much as well. This was the last song performed at their Permission to Dance shows in LA and Vegas. It was fun with confetti and large balloons going everywhere! I still have some of the confetti from the Vegas shows. The choreo to this song is great to see as well. 💜💜💜

No, when you see a member singing, thats the one really singing. They don't trick that. Jungkook is the main singer of BTS, but they all have their parts. JK and Jimin are the ones doing the most adlibbs in this song. Jin is doing the nanananana. All of the Rappers have done singing in different BTS songs, as well as in their solo stuff. But specially J-Hope has a great singing voice as well. (Check out his song Mama). As JK has been rapping also, specialy in the earlier songs when they'd just debuted. He is a good rapper with a bit of a hoarse sound.
The last part was dancing with the crew, camera, sound, producers even Bang PD and their performance director Son Sung Deuk was there.

I've been watching you for a while now, and it kind of gets me that you haven't really got into BTS, if you did, you will know how talented all 7 of them are.
Jhope isnt only a rapper in bts. He is also a sub-vocalist. That reminds me that you havent reacted to *Spring Day* yet. The song that ARMYs brought back to #1 on itunes and other platforms as soon as bts members all enlisted. Its a song really emotional for us and bts. Do react to spring day i am sure you would love that too.
I know it's a little late, but J-Hope said in one interview that he wanted to be a SINGER as a kid. He learned rapping as a trainee, so way later. I love his singing voice. 😊 Suga said in one interview that he wants to try out new things. So he took more vocal lessons. He really sings a lot in his solo album D-Day and in my opinion he did a great job!

J hope is known as a "sub-vocalist" as well as a rapper, and sings a lot on his solo stuff. Suga has more recently had lessons to improve his singing voice, to give another dimension to his solo work.
Check out seesaw by Suga he does sing, Hobi joined Bighit as a Dancer/vocalist, Tae was meant to join the rap line but Hobi switched with him.

He also sings the deeper harmonies in the BTS cover performance of Fix you and he sang in Equal Sign on his solo album Jack in the Box. You saw SUGA singing in the BTS Room live from 2021 Festa (Telepathy from the Be album) and he sang in Amygdala from his D-Day album 😊

"Joyfull, joyfull' - that's the first word that comes to my mind about PTD. It's impossible not to smile when you listen/watch. You escape from reality for a few minutes - you feel happy, free and without worries - at least for a little while.
Did you notice that they also use sign language? They do it on purpose so that hearing impaired people can also enjoy it. The choreography is also made in such a way that it's easy to dance - making you happy that you can dance together with them - because you are also part of the community, you can feel that you are not alone. This is one of their mission. Miraculous.
And yes, J-hope and Suga sing those parts - ofc! Who else?! All 3 rappers of BTS can sing great! Honestly, each member's vocals are beautiful and unique. 💜

All the rappers can sing, but j-hope is the one who does the most singing and does falsettos as well. He is officially a "Sub Vocalist" in BTS, and also sings on his solo work as well as rapping. Suga can also really belt it out when he wants to, which he does on his solo work and live during his world tour last year. RM has a smoky and sultry deep singing voice. All the rap line also does backing harmonies and ad libs on BTS songs, both recorded and live. Check out their live cover to Fix You to see all of them singing harmonies together.

Ed Sheeran co-wrote this song. It is one of the "Pandemic songs" BTS came out with. This came out towards the end of the pandemic when "WE DON'T NEED PERMISSION TO DANCE" Yes Jhope and Suga can sing decently. Jhope is a sub-vocalist and Suga has some solo songs where he sings. This song is also considered inclusive because it uses sign language in its choreography so even when you can't hear the music you know it says Happy, dance, and peace, some choreographies are also easy to understand like fall, land get up, talk, and walk.

They're continuously learning without any ego or being boastful, a characteristic that everybody loves about BTS.
