Same me here. Absolutely love this simplest diesel engine. Easy to maintain. Only thing that need to look at, is they failed due to excessive wear on oil pump gear.
It is also possible do this from top side. You need to remove fuel filter, vacuum box, EGR valve, charging cable between alternator and starter completely, and cables wiring from sensors and injectors move aside and then there is enough space to fit it from top. I did this on Alfa 156 1.9 jtd 8V, Lybra 2.4 jtd 10V and Alfa 156 2.4 jtd 20V couple of times. It is tricky to pull it out by hand, so, use a hook to hook it up and it is easier to pull it out. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to remove and to fit a new alternator if all goes well :D. Anyway very informative video!
@@alfaromeonoproblem i did alternator change on my 147 1.9 8v few weeks ago. I did it from the top side too. Only loose the fuel filter, and oil level check rod,and the alternator came out. The new one is a little bigger,so in the installing needed to remove the egr valve too.
maybe you can make a video about steering wheel and power steering, i will be glad and not only me. thanks for your work. this is invaluable experience
I need this for the 20v engine yesterday please haha. I finished working at 3am. Wasn't able to remove the alternator. Manual says: if the bolt head is facing the outside, then just remove the engine ... I don't want to cut the bolt. Also the aux belt. Big fu to the engineer that designed that. Was a massive struggle to fit. There are no good videos on how to do this.
@@AlfaAddict Did you try using car jack, and unbolting engine fitting, and lowering or raising engine a bit to get a little more space for bolt to remove. I had the same scenario on 2.4 jtd 10V, bolt was outside facing but I managed to remove it. For fitting aux belt on 10v and 20v I use 32mm fork wrench and a car jack to help me to rotate the tensioner to fit the belt.
Tough job. I remember doing mine pulling it above the engine - on a GT JTD (16v) - wasn't fun but doable :D
Nice work!
Thanks for watching
8v JTD ♥️ I'm absolutely in love with that engine. It's powerful, reliable, not overcomplicated, doesn't use much fuel and has a nice sound.
Yes, but replacing a alternator, is nightmare
It's very nice yes
I had worse

@kuratage here in Portugal we have warm temperatures, no issues on the pump at all.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've done it from above in the past, for me is not worth the effort. Sometimes you got to go bottom first...

@@pelless Yes, and the oil level rod, I forgot👍🏻
