In the Summer of 1984, Brian and Roger demoed two tracks for a possible Queen Christmas single - "I Dream Of Christmas" and "Thank God It's Christmas". The latter was judged to be most suitable for release and the band completed work on it between November 7th and 11th of that year - in time for the single to be in the shops on November 26th.
"Thank God It's Christmas" has become a perennial Christmas radio song, but it never featured in any Queen concert and is the only Queen single never to have featured on any album.
