This is an excellent resource for AP Capstone teachers and students. It is great to see a range of practical strategies for using AI ethically at various stages of the research process. It will support many students in their academic writing both at high school and beyond.

By using Chat GPT as a peer reviewer, won't that now show up on Turnitin when student goes to submit their paper at the end of the course?

That's a good question. Let me take a minute to explain as best I can.
Turnitin detects similarity: "Turnitin’s software takes what a student submits and we compare it to a massive database of content, including internet, academic, and student paper content, and we look for similarities." www.turnitin.com/blog/does-turnitin-detect-plagiarism
I believe that your concern is that when students copy & paste their essay into ChatGPT that it will be detectable by Turnitin, however, Turnitin is not affiliated with OpenAI and does not have access to their database.
Even if Turnitin did have access to the ChatGPT database... so, long as the students have written their essays by themselves with appropriate citations for quotes and paraphrased sentences, then they are protected from claims of plagiarism. Furthermore, by using ChatGPT as a peer review tool, they are just seeking feedback on specific areas to improve, so they will not be copy & pasting any AI content either.
Also, I can confirm that I used this technique with students from the 2023/24 academic year and none of them had problems with Turnitin. Several scored 4s and 5s too.
I hope that clarifies things and thank you for the question.

      Thank you!
Yes my concern was that once their paper was entered into Open AI, it’d be detectable down the road by Turnitin’s AI detector tool.
