- At their peak, Toys "R" Us had over 1,000 locations in the United States which included Kids R Us, Babies R Us and Imaginarium stores. Today they have only two locations left which both operate under the Tru Kids brand.

A complete list of United States store addresses along with their lease information, retail square footage, phone numbers, and store ID numbers was made available at the time of their bankruptcy.
A .pdf of the complete 139 page bankruptcy filing is available here: cases.primeclerk.com/toysprop.... See Exhibit A for the list of stores.
The addresses of the first 182 store locations was originally posted on the Toys R Us website. It is now only available through the Wayback machine: web.archive.org/web/201803120...
The second and final phase began at the end of March 2018 and involved liquidating all remaining stores. The addresses of all remaining store locations and details of the company’s liquidation was made available through the bankruptcy court filings, linked above. Stores were closed permanently as soon as they had finished liquidating their inventory. The order of the closures was based on each store’s gross square footage. It was assumed that the larger locations would have taken longer to liquidate. The last of the stores were officially closed to customers on June 29 2018.
The per-state store numbers were obtained from archive copies of Toys R Us Inc's annual 10-K filings with the SEC from 1996 to 2017. The numbers before 1996 were collected from various business news articles that covered the history of the company. There was a high volume of relevant business news articles in 2017 and 2018 during the Toys R Us bankruptcy.
You missed Wyoming?
One Toys R Us location supposedly existed in Cheyenne, WY at the Frontier Mall at 1400 Dell Range Blvd. However I can’t confirm that this location was ever opened. According to this post:www.city-data.com/locations/To..., a user reported in 2014, that it didn’t exist. There was no mention of Toys R Us on the Frontier Mall online directory www.frontiermall.com/directory on the Wayback machine. There were no Wyoming locations mentioned in any of the company reports, therefore Toys R Us Wyoming was deliberately excluded from the data.
I used to work at Toys R Us. Most people think that Toys R Us went out of business because of competition from online retailers like Amazon, but, surprisingly, that's not the case here. Toys R Us went under because of exceptionally bad management. In 2005 Toys R Us sold itself for $6.6 billion. This was a debt put on the company by the new owners, and it was a debt that Toys R Us was never able to repay. It was this sale in 2005 which led to the long path towards bankruptcy in 2017.
I have some good memories there
That and other stores sold the same things toys r us did at lower prices, a big example would be walmart.
there is one at duffrin mall in toronto ontario
THERES SO MANY TOYS RUS IN PHILIPPINES
@@thefancydoge8668 6.6 billion made it impossible to sell cheaper also Walmart is will to take a loss on sells to to take down there rivals
Lets take a moment of silence to the people in Wyoming who never had a Toys R us.
Yes 👍
Nevada took forever to get one I noticed
What people?
my country never had a toys r us
@@-shadz2545 Same
Lol North Dakota has no or only have one
Poor Wyoming never had a Toys R Us.
and poor up no toys r us
thats what you get for living in wyoming, the blandest state in the us
Wyoming is a sleepy state filled with farms and National Park. Why do they need a world's biggest toy store?
Wyoming doesn’t exist tho lol..?
It had one :)
One of the reason why Garfield said Wyoming doesn't exist in the Garfield and Friends episode, "It Must Be True" is because Wyoming never had a Toys R Us.
They failed to downsize somewhat during/after the 2009 financial crisis, eventually catching up to them in 2017. Having a few Billion in debt, they failed to secure a buyer, and had to close almost 900 stores, their entire business.
There was someone who did want to buy them but for whatever reason they did not want to sell to him.
they probably assumed “oh, we closed 300 stores back in 2002-2006, we’re good now” until it was too late
There was a Toysrus near the mall where I live. I got most of my Bionicle stuff from there. I also got some Skylanders there. Not only that, but they also had exclusive variants known as the Legendary Skylanders.
Bionicle was awesome, so many good memories
Do one of "Map of the Rise and Fall of Sears" and "Map of the Rise and Fall of Kmart" please.
I do not even understand why Kmart Got bankrupt tho
@@Wolf-rk6jqBecause Walmart took Sears out because It had everything and since KMart was owned by Sears it took it down with them, if I understood correctly.

My town had a hometown sears until a few months ago, it was thriving and doing well unlike most sears stores
YES! YES! YES!
2018 was the culling year which really ended Toys R Us fast in the United States, at the start of the year there were over 800 locations, but by the end of the year there were 0 remaining. They did come back with 2 new stores in 2020 only for them to close once more in 2021.
They back at macys and American Dream Mall
@@ilikepokemon9022While American Dream Mall’s Toys R Us does count, Macy’s is just some label they slapped on in their toy section.
@@WahooMarioIsBack True but I think macys bought toys r us and is slowing bringing them back so they will prob grow more
My local mall has a toys r us in macys
A thing I read said they're planning on having a total of 24 physical store locations open by 2024, which I don't think that means all the Macy's locations they have since I'm pretty sure that number is already higher than 24
I loved the way the video is made, it takes extreme hard work and patience. Kudos Buddy!
It’s I think because due to bankruptcy or people were playing with games instead of playing with toys or people started to shop online
@@realprtours3361Toys "R" Us in Canada actually has a video game section.
@@realprtours3361 how did Toys R Us went out of Business how ?
So weird to see some states with only 1 or 2 toys r us stores. I wonder why they never expanded further in some states.
Bigass money problems
My guess is that it's simply because almost nobody lives there.
I remember going to a Toys R Us in 2013 with my dad a few months before Christmas because I wanted to look for the newest Lego City sets. That same one is a Big Lots today.
I'm glad the place where I live, Qatar. Still has Toys R Us. I remember checking Toys R Us and when my father sometimes drives me through the roads, I still see a Toys R us still standing.
Not gonna lie this is the one store I wish would make a comeback it would be so much easier to find presents for my nephews if I just had to go to one place to find a toy.
It did it’s in Macy’s
I love seeing these visualizations in my Reddit feed!
0:35 I remember the one in Tennessee. It’s around where I live. I remember my grandma taking me and my cousins to buy toys there. Man I miss that
Another interesting video - would love to know how you do this.
Thank GOD they’re still around in Canada, Europe, and Asia
There's a lot of here in my country :)
I cannot believe this had to happen.
Went there as a kid sometimes.
Happened during my childhood right after I moved and lost everything. 2018 was even worse than 2020 for me
I remember begging my parents to buy Skylanders from toys r us.
@@talentlesscommenter1329I remember buying Disney Infinity power disc packs from there too! I think the first one I got was a WALL-E power disc that turned my Toy Box into sand like the terrain in the movie. Or at least that’s the one I remember getting from Toys R Us. This was like in 2013 or 2014, back when Disney Infinity was still new.
The 80s and 90s was good to them!
In December 2021, Toys R Us opened a flagship store in Rutherford, New Jersey in the American Dream mall.
Ah, would you look at that
Pretty sure it's because the American ones are owned by the Canadian version (which is still successfull).
My mall has one in Macys
There's one in the Mall of America, but it's temporary.
Here from Reddit! Good freaking job,
2:48 holy moly
Wow!!
I'm so sad. I miss Toys R Us

Augmented Reality will bring back these stores in 10 years. Just be patient :)
The new person in charge of Toys R Us said he will be bringing them back in North America.
Toys r us had 1077 stores at their peak
Yup. Floundered a little, then tried to hang in there, tried to come back to life...then the rug was pulled out from under them. Wow!
you should do a map of the rise and fall of sears
Toys r us is coming back to Alaska you know in 2020 before 2021
I like toys R us and babies R us
Why does the Toys r us in la cross Wisconsin fade away twice? There was a toys r us in la cross, and there still is. I’ve seen it many times when growing up there.
And so once again for these days our entire country of United States to go shopping would might be over for a while, we're kinda miss the world's greatest toy store for now. It's called Toys "R" Us.
But it won't be gone forever. I have a feeling that this won't be last time, I hope if we will see it again someday, ya know like some many years.
Ya know it's for the kids, they will never grow up, as long is they'll always.....Always be a Toys "R" Us kids, even with their good Moms and Dads, and their grandparents too.
It might be have a future, and it will return someday.
I wonder if Geoffrey The Giraffe will remember us in United States, at least he still have his family like his wife Gigi and his children Geoffrey Jr. and Baby Gee.
It was back in the 1980's and 90's.
I know we will never forget them, and so is the rest of the Toys "R" Us. At least we all have a good memories, instead of remembering.
Geoffrey is still living, as he's a legend. A legends never dies. Even we all be okay in United States.
And the Toys "R" Us will never give up, At least it still open in a worldwide. None of us will

I feel bad for the 500,000 people in Wyoming who have never had a toys r us.
2017 grew like i stores then 1 year everything just went away like how
they had to close all of them at once
They started closing them at the end of 2017 and then all stores closed by 2018.

i saw a few locations on there that wasn't open for even a whole year before they announced they were going to close Because i saw one opened in Utah in July 2017 that's sad and October 2017 i saw one open in Hawaii, Texas, And Arizona, just sad

One store in every state would still do very well

Roses are red
Cactus Are prickly
Holy sh** that escalated quickly
Once Bain Capital bought them, they were doomed. Private equity firms are awful. They saddled TRU with a crushing debt load and systematically gutted everything that made TRU awesome.
They missed my childhood Toys 'R Us store in Detroit from the 1970's, probably around 1973 or so. They don't show it until 1980.
I live in Canada and have a Toys Rus five minutes from my house
Now if they're referring to all three stores (Toys, Kids, and Babies), then that should've jumped up quite a bit before falling again as they closed all the Kids R Us stores when they realized they were selling big kids' clothes in both Toys and Babies, which left Kids redundant.
Dude the east south coast is FILLED
I lived in Oahu. There was a TOYS R US there in 1978
I almost cried for this☹️
Only thing I can say about this:
THANK GOD MACY'S EXISTS
