This is a situation where the color mismatch and Technic jankiness actually contribute to the aesthetic in my opinion - steampunk often has a bit of gangly awkwardness in it. Also, regarding display - the color, shape, and size give it an "executive toy" aesthetic that I think could be neat in an office or something
I think, at least in the example he gave, the brown piece is supposed to be a wood support piece, and the grey one, because it's part of the flying mechanism itself, is supposed to be metal
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the flying machine isn't steampunk. Steampunk as far as I know is a SF aesthetic where most of the machines use steam to work like boilers. The flying machine is mostly out of wood, fabric and ropes. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Da Vinci tried to figure out how to make this thing fly by only moving manually without motors. But still, the color mismatch still fits because wood isn't all that consistent in color.
@@knightatyourservice7512yeah it’s technically not steampunk proper. It’s not more advanced tech powered by steam. However the term has morphed to often encompass anything of a higher technology level achieved with more primitive technical methods. I think its amazing that such an original set came out. Leonardo da Vinci always fascinated me cause he was great painter mathematician and engineer and his machine concepts were ahead of their time. To see a Lego set of a flying machine with his minifigure for 50 dollars US is a great thing. I hope we would see a Vitruvian Man as a print sometime in the future
I remember going to a museum exhibit about da Vinci, my dad took me there and we had a blast learning about the great genius da Vinci... My dad passed away 12 years ago, so when I saw this set, it brought back some very fond memories of a great day I had with my dad. I know we would've had so much fun building this together, but I built it on my own, miss you dad.❤
Oh my I will buy this immediately when released. Da Vinci is for me one of the men that was the foundation of The Renaissance era and a grandmaster of art. Leo from Vinci made the most famous painting in the World and with this set I hope there will be more sets of him coming out in Lego.
I think it’d be really cool of Lego did a little line of sets in theme with inventors and their creations. Like I know they did a little Galileo GWP but that would go along perfectly with more like an Alexander Grahm Bell with a phonograph, a Gutenberg with a printing press, that type stuff.
Visually I think it’s beautiful to look at , Leonardo himself would be proud. I hope Lego keep on releasing a stack of Leonardo da Vinci’s designs in this scale , for example his tank design ,could move forward with a winding mechanism, his mobile cart which had 3 wheels intended to function as a robot moving piece, da Vincis Clocks, the list is endless, Genius Lego flying machine design at this scale. I’m definitely buying.
Priced well in the US but the UK, EU and Aus prices are disgusting. Wish you'd mentioned that instead of just flashing it up on screen for a bit and saying it's a good price. People outside the US already pay more for Lego and then they bump it up even more for this? Like I would've expected £45 in the UK. That's still more than the US price but that's what Lego typically does. £55 is just them trying to see how much they can squeeze out of us
personally I think this kinda design is really cool, its like being able to see the inside of a machine (clear watches or clear calculator back in the days) also a subversion on aesthetics of most lego sets being clean and polished
I went to a LEGO store yesterday to buy myself a set for my birthday and had a thought of one of the Harry Potter new castle sets. Walked by this set, saw the box and went for it. Great building experience, only at the last getting to see how every function starts to work. I like science very much (studied applied physics).
One of the few lego products I love at first sight. And it is even payable. Sounds really good to me. And for display value: It shows a deep tecnical understanding plus some love for history. Cool stuff, I think.
I honestly love it and the price made my jaw drop. I already have a wooden miniature of the ornithopter hanging on my ceiling, but I might pick that one up aswell
I love this model, I'm buying it as soon as I see it on shelves! I might even buy 2 to use one for parts! I'm really surprised at how affordable this is with all the new recolor and bespoke elements. ❤
I love that it is an affordable price. The movement is very cool, and it looks and sounds like it would be a fun build. I do agree with you on the looks though. It has an incomplete look to it. Like it's missing its head or something. Overall, though, I think it is a great set.
@@TiagoCatarino You’ve deleted your community post about why you dislike the Everyone Is Awesome set. Why do you not want people to know that you think it should be harder to collect monochrome figures?
I'm looking forward to this set. The miss coloured elements never bother me, it just makes Lego look more like Lego which is a good thing in my opinion. I think it'll make a great display piece for a bookshelf along side some books.
Amazing affordable set The color issue is more of a common technic problem than a problem with this set I do agree it doesn't look the best on display. I think other Icons planes or helicopters would be better especially in display value
It's a cute little set but it takes a lot of liberty with the original Da Vinci design which was more of a hang glider. This looks like an actual wooden aeroplane.
