Good morning from Australia 🇦🇺 I love the big screen direction sheet. Looks just like mine! Awesome place to find trees and rocks. Lovely Bonsai Dave, well done!!
What a delightful video. How nice to be able to go somewhere and collect trees for bonsai. Your friend, Dave, is quite the bonsai artist. Love his collection - such a great variety of small and large trees.
Lovely forest and bog for collecting trees! 💚 And you found the Rabbit rock! Upright like a snowrabbit about to fight another or just peering to see the foes.. Dave you have some magnificent trees; thanks for taking us Nigel!
@@TheBonsaiZone You could get some potter's clay and make a casting of the stone's base. Enlarge it a bit by wiggling to allow for approximately 10% shrinkage. if you were going to tie into a pot make sure to add some tie holes. i have done this successfully.
Yes, it was a little late to go collecting, the black flies were out full force, but at least they weren't biting! I was really inspired by Dave's collection!!
Great video Nigel. I absolutely love exploring the forest for collecting. Dave's got some nice trees there, nice work on that deadwood, love the 2 live veins that intersect! Thanks guys!
Well, thank you for this very realistic outing! Good to see such a old woodforest, endless and natural. Felt like actually being there. Glad everyone came back with something and a good feeling anyhow! Thanks for the effort and sharing.
I love the collected tree and rock Nigel! And David's trees are amazing, he has such an eye for beautiful bonsai. The one next to the amur maple looks like a ballroom dancer dancing. I hope one day I can have bonsai benches everywhere like that!
Wow that's some serious gear, I would have showed up in crocs, shovel and a small pruner hahaha You were not kidding about the black flies, they are buzzing around the camera
Seeing the countryside in Canada is always a joy. There is so much beauty in nature and you share it very well. Dave's bonsai are great, too. I really admire that lilac of his. Wonderful video !
Looks like you had a fun day, Nigel! really need to get some yamadori time this week. I really enjoy and appreciate these backyard tours! They always give me new ideas to work on.
Looks like you've got some sun today. The Red Trillium took my breath away. Who knew?? Incredible! Have to search for information on this beauty. The forest looked much like the North. A really enjoyable video. I guess Dave was the only one who took out a beauty of a trunk, Maybe one day I'll see how it's developed. Dave has a great collection too. A million thanks for this exploring.
Short comment here from Denmark (so please excuse my spelling and weird wording) - read it as well meant comments. Really nice video Nigel. Love the atmosphere you have on the trip. However, I must say that I would never dig up yamadori as shown in the video. Light debris in the tree, yes, but to tear it up before you have dug around - never. The anchoring of the tree on the backpack looks very unstable and could potentially destroy important roots. Wrapping the roots would stabilize and prevent evaporation. However the tree was wonderful - it will definitely make a great bonsai. Again I really enjoyed your video.
Hello Nigel, nice vlog! Wondering how Dave over winters his trees in their pots. I don't have a greenhouse so have been healing them in over the winter but that wouldn't work with nice pots. Thanks, Mark
i somappreciate going along on your video field trips. love that tower rock! do you spray the rocks like that to try and keep the lichen alive? that orange lichen looked like a star trek planet prop!

It's wild no matter where it is the large disgusting rodents called deer are destroying any thing with in reach. They are so over populated. The first thuja or chamacyparis you dug should have had so much more green on it. That said at least their in the woods in this case.
Wow those were some very nice Bonsai. I really liked that first Yew👍
I swear you are my brother by another mother, I thought I was the only one who gets excited over cool rocks!
Watching from Philippines Sir Nigel.
Great collection of rocks. Nice walk in the woods. Really nice trees Dave has. Great video!
they look like the ghostbusters of bonsai
Nice!! Who ya gonna call?!!
Thanks for sharing. Really appreciate you making these videos.
awesome adventure. Amazing rocks you got.

Great video! Lovely collecting area, Daves trees were great, and plenty of Aye's!
Wow, just wow! Maybe now that I’m in the KW club Dave will be my friend too!?! 🤣 Awesome video Nigel! 🐦💙
Wow Haha! Yes even the Jack pine grow like that in swampy conditions. Very nice collection Dave has!
Smashing!
Dave has an enviable collection. It is always fun to traipse through the woods.
Nice 👍👍
the music makes this feel like a video game. nice touch

That tall rock you collected is spectacular.
Thanks David, now I have to find a way to keep it upright!!

@@davidjohnson7508 Thanks David!!
So many amazing finds :O
Awesome
That was some serious mosquito country you were in! Very beautiful, for sure.
And Daggum, Dave has an awesome (and tidy!) collection!

I like this mission.
I use the same navigation system. So far I haven't gotten lost much, so it is working. Ecological too!
Thanks Liisa!
I'm loving this, luckily we didnt see any cute little teddy bears. Nice rock you got there, definitely works as Penjing landscape.
Thanks Zombie!
That looked like a fantastic adventure with great finds!
Also, Dave has a really nice collection!

Yes, lots of black flies, but they weren't biting! It was quite wet in some areas, so we mainly stuck to the trails!

Saw that cool orange lichen the other day on a stump.
Looks like you had a fun day, Nigel! really need to get some yamadori time this week.
I really enjoy and appreciate these backyard tours! They always give me new ideas to work on.
Wow your buddy has some nice stuff, very inspiring. But I can’t believe the man with all the gadgets didn’t bring a bag to wrap the root ball in!
Luckily we weren't far from the car, he did wrap the roots then!
those rocks remind me of seastacks!
New subscriber sir and new friend also. Bouggies bonsai

Wow! This was amazing. I wish I could also go on a similar trip some day. Though v don't have such forest area around

I have seen the tree about a month ago and it is doing well!!
so those are what roads look like in ontario!
Those are the good ones!
A good trip. . .My family visited the US National Bonsai and Penjing museums today in DC, a first for me! Really great experience.
Hello Nigel, nice vlog! Wondering how Dave over winters his trees in their pots. I don't have a greenhouse so have been healing them in over the winter but that wouldn't work with nice pots. Thanks, Mark
i am so jelly on the pots mostly coz the ones the sell here have no holl's on them xD
Hey Nigel, how come you didn't collect any tree(s)? Maybe I missed your explanation in the video but I'd be interested in why you wouldn't get any. :)
Great trip Nigel, i have a question : have you ever come across a wild bear on a field trip ???
I haven't, we have seen signs of bears, but luckily no animals!!
👍
This is awesome!
Do you ever bring a metal detector on your trips
i somappreciate going along on your video field trips. love that tower rock! do you spray the rocks like that to try and keep the lichen alive? that orange lichen looked like a star trek planet prop!
Where can we see Michaels tree? Did it live and become a master piece?
sounds like starwars
Is the size you decide on collection only decided by the size? Or if it is small and old would the roots be too long/established?
You have to decide if the tree can be collected successfully! When collecting you are looking for a tree that mother nature has done much of the work for the tree to become miniature!
Foist
Dave is pissed and jealous the whole walk through the woods after loosing that tree to Michael.
Nigel aganst bears part 1 hehe
Its called a Wake Robin!
Thanks!!!!
What's the rooting hormone do you use?
I haven't used any so far, I probably should!!
So that as a natural cedar over rock growth?
If only there existed a tool that could protect you from bears. Something handheld that goes bang.
Maybe one day Canada will be FREE.

Btw a question..... Don't u guyz get worried that a snake 🐍 might bite u 😱
Luckily we only have one venomous snake in Ontario and it is shy and stays away from humans. I've never seen one in my life!

Now Nigel got Spruce!!

So funny, you love beautiful trees but drive the world's ugliest car. Oh the irony....
I love the Micra, I think it's awesome!!
