This is awesome! I never got to play like any of the NFS arcade ports, so this is really cool to see at least one of them running on PC. Great work, and I look forward to seeing the Underground and Carbon if you manage to figure those out!
Hey Kacey, I was wondering if you've ever heard of a racing game called Rumble Racing that released as an _extremely_ early exclusive for the PS2. Two of the main draws are the ability to do flips in the air, plus a variety of Mario Kart-like power-ups. It's kind of obscure (For a game published by EA, anyway), so I figured that it might be right up your alley!
I remember seeing a twincab of this in an arcade in Seaside, Oregon back in high school. Funnily enough, the time share we were staying at had an Underground cab in it, but was not working. I put somewhere between 5 and 10 bucks in the cab over the course of our trip to Seaside, which is funny considering there was also an F-Zero AX cabinet with a motion seat as well in the same arcade. Was a fun time to experience, and if ever given the chance, go play it if you find an arcade cab of it.
Another Global VR game. They sure have a weird mid-tier charm to them when compared to other arcade manufacturers; that said, they have their place in the world and are very cool. This is awesome stuff to see be preserved. My dream is to one day play all of these Global VR games either as intended or somewhat as intended on PC, especially the Madden Arcade games they made. I grew up playing those Madden games on road trips at gas stations and rest stops, so I'd love to play either Madden Arcade or Madden Season 2 again some day. In all likelihood that PC just has a bad harddrive and you can replace it + reinstall from the recovery DVD, which has been found & uploaded to Archive.org.
Oh boy where to even begin. The whole "frontend ui" you speak of that runs the attract and service modes was very common with GlobalVR games (any 'Vortek' multigame, Nascar, PGA Tour, Madden, Six Gun Select, Twisted Nitro Stunt Racing, Redline Rampage). Furthermore, they all have the "normal copy" of the game files installed much like with NFS (maybe except for Six Gun Select). Because installing this involves messing with system and registry files, playing these games are best done on a virtual machine so the arcade game specific registry and system files are installed there (after all, GlobalVR did not design those computers for consumer usage). If anything, emulation of the USB I/O boards would also be preferred to so nobody would have to do ridiculous configurations just to play what's seemingly a watered down port on the outside but something unique on the inside (except Nascar because that game is still boring regardless). P.S. Long live Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2
Sadly i have no technical skill at the moment but troubleshooting and testing is what ive been doing for a few years now especially with Linux hehehe not as bad as you might think but that still doesn't mean i am scared about terminals
I played a lot of Carbon at the arcade and never used saves once. Hell I might have even tried to, and it just didn’t work. I thought it used a numberpad system like the Fast and Furious games, but apparently they used cards???? I’m so confused. I need to do research on this.
Yep, they used cards. You had to pay like £5 for one as well. Nice little racket Global VR had going on there. They didn't just save your game either though - Global VR had 'tournament play' where if you posted the fastest time on the cabinet you could win a large cash prize.
Yes, I was playing it yesterday. Search Soapbox Race World. As for Motor City Online I think so - the tutorial I was following for installing NFS World, the guy had a MCO folder as well.

Were there really 2 ports or am I stupid?
In fairness, there was still a small market for amusement machines in America, especially driving and sports games. You still find Golden Tee in sports bars, and the Raw Thrills driving games are still going pretty strong. It makes sense from EA's standpoint IMO. GlobalVR did all the additional development and distribution-- all EA had to do was provide a license and dev tools, and collect a check.

Never knew that nfs had arcade games, guess I learned something new today.
The cab I have came with a pc running windows. It ran some but crashed hard and computer is in-op. I was hoping to just build a new machine and dual(or more) boot it between "OE" NFS and SteamOS.
Thanks for your work and video. I'm sure it will help, once I get around to tinkering with it.
In all likelihood that PC just has a bad harddrive and you can replace it + reinstall from the recovery DVD, which has been found & uploaded to Archive.org.
I bought the nfs arcade off marketplace for $125 and pun in a new gpu i had laying around and ran great!!
I bet Kuru will be playing this game on his stream xd
How about racing wheel support? That would be the preferred way to play. Heck, even controller support would be better than keyboard.
Makes sense for a developer who had worked on the game to leave a comment.
The "difficulty" option in the service menu affects the difficulty of the time limits, not the AI, which is always that absurd.
I kept some nfs arcade stuff, u1 and carbon.
😊
Oh yeah, I have spotted a real version of that machine before, also one that was for Underground.
I think it was New Hampshire near where Funspot was located but a different arcade near the beach.
For the Underground cabinet
But then I remember there was a place with Bumper boats up there and there was one of them that did not work.
But then I remember there was a place with Bumper boats up there and there was one of them that did not work.
Then I remember a diner in Upstate New York that had a working double-wide cabinet, but it seems to have been removed from what I have seen.
They didn't just save your game either though - Global VR had 'tournament play' where if you posted the fastest time on the cabinet you could win a large cash prize.
there's card-based saves for arcade cabinets in Sydney AU right now I see em all the time

I thought you were making a joke about the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 basically being a rebadged Elise before I read the text 😂
good job.. tho ps2 verion on pcsx2 with texture replacement is probs gonna be the only attention nfshp2 will get
It takes "arcade" very literally xD Like PC and consoles version wasn't arcade enough
awesome, big props
beast upload

What is that wallpaper on your PC? I wanna download it, it looks gorgeous
Can we play the old NFS World?
Oh and Motor City Online.. I forgot that game 🤔
@@emaheiwa8174 both are playable nowadays through fan efforts, though nfs world has a much bigger community (look up soapbox race world)
Yes, I was playing it yesterday. Search Soapbox Race World. As for Motor City Online I think so - the tutorial I was following for installing NFS World, the guy had a MCO folder as well.
Was the audio for that EA Games intro different than the retail one or am i being a umbdass
Hi, I'm your C:\ drive. Thank you for feeding me with NFS GT om nom nom :B
YES THANK YOU
In a week or two, you might want to consider making a video titled "Preserving a Forgotten Need for Speed *Mobile* Game" ;)
Which??
@@Kaceydotme Check a thread with BREW in the title at the NFSTheories forum in the Public Mobile/Handheld section. There's a hint to what "coming soon"
@@Kaceydotme Check that thread and the latest post in that thread, enjoy
Why so secretive?
@@whereistheguru. It's fun lol. And usually when I directly post links it got deleted
Anyway, the mobile game is NFSUG2 by Ideaworks3D, a bunch builds has been archived by KrZ One, check it out
Does this have proper wheel support?
$300 for A GeForce 4 is nasty work
Retro PC gaming is starting to go down the path of retro console shit

patron exclusive? i can't find a link. :(
It is in the document
@@Kaceydotme invite link dead. Can you please change link?
The only need for speed game that needs to be preserved is the original most wanted, maybe underground 2 but forsure most wanted and only most wanted
It is preserved. It's super easy to get your digital hands on any of the console versions or PC.
glad to have been of help for this
5:05 its pronounced ecksi-CUTE-ible
so this is a weird upgraded non black box version of HP2?
fucking EA seeing profit in the dying arcade market of 2003 is so funny to me. like yeah it's fair enough that japanese companies like arcsys or capcom still released stuff for arcades even after home consoles reigned supreme but EA?
edit: on another note, the Underground arcade port seems different from the one most of the larger community knows about.
NFS GT also comes with a unique debug .exe, it has some cool functions
No cops?! RIP :(
😊☝ can this be changed from Free play to add coins ?????
No, there’s no way to add coins with the keyboard.
@@Kaceydotme 😢 thats just sad if u builed a arcade machine out of this and that could have happen u could have added coins and connect a coin door
Shameful how EA treat NFS.
It,s just cut pc version of nfs hp 2((((
So I can play amajorly cut down version of the game with ridiculous handling.
yay?
I don't know man, I think Need For Speed: Super is a better Game.
