Thanks for the review. For several years I've used the Fuji WCL-X100 II, first on my X100v and now on my X100vi. I have been 100% pleased with the image quality from this lens. Moreover, I actually love the added weight and the extended lens length. For me, this stabilizes my shots with firmer left hand grip under the lens (the old school pose!) and the well proportioned body of this lens helps counter the complaints that are often made about the small grip on the X100 cameras. In fact, the feel is so good that I generally keep it on full time unless I'm otherwise needing to put my camera in my jacket pocket when heading out. It makes the camera feel more substantial and I like that. The Freewell looks to be a terrific value and I hope it sells well (the macro DOF looked crazy short, however) but I'll stick with the quality and perfect feel of the WCL. Keep up the great work, Booray.
Thanks for the review - I was looking for one a few days ago and there wasn't one anywhere - this is the first one. I have ordered this lens myself and am curious to see the results.
Nice test, and you can always make it auto-sense by adding a correctly placed magnet on the lens - plenty of tutorials on the web as to how to do this for the Mk1 versions of the WCL and TCL, should work fine for this too providing there's space for the magnet!
@@BoorayPerry Get yourself a small magnet and figure out what the right placement is (IIRC the sensor is at about 7-8 o'clock looking front on) - the polarity of the magnet tells the camera whether TCL or WCL... blu-tak is your friend here!
FYI: The magnet fix also works for my wcl70 (wide adapter originally for the x70 camera), and gives about a 24mm FOV on the x100 series. Fun lens, but big.
Hey Booray, it's nice to see another one of your videos. I like seeing different Camera brands, as I shoot With Nikon it's refreshing to see the features of other Camera brands. Like the photo of the Little Yellow man with the flag. And that Emergency sign, shouldn't it read 1/210 of a second 😂🤣. Many thanks Booray as always. Have a nice day 😊📸.
I ordered one. Sadly, I'm in Canada and I couldn't get an affiliate link to work for me. Hopefully, it will suffice for you to know that you're my source for X100 info. Thanks for everything you do to make these videos.
GREAT video. Great recommendation. £99 here in UK. By co-incidence my 2nd hand (as new) WCL lens arrived today (£150). But I would love to have a macro for my X100vi. I recently bought the 40mm f/2.8 macro by TTArtisans for my other Fuji. I just want to have a bit of fun. Some years ago I put 5 photos of bees / flowers into an exhibition of my photographs. 5 different coloured flowers, one bee visiting each. Taken on my 12mp Olympus P&S because it could do a good macro easily.
@@BoorayPerry Well I think it's most important to know when to compare at 100% and when not. If making a buying decision, you want to have all the information first, and then decide whether the different matters to you. At least you should have shown much larger images if not 100%. I wouldn't buy any lens based on a tiny image of half the screen, because I show my images at a size much larger than that. Best of luck with your channel!
That looks amazing. Going to check if by any chance it works with the X100S. The price is amazing, and that its two features in one for $99 USD is amazing.
@BoorayPerry I am wondering because I understand that the f/2 lens from the X100V and X100VI is an updated version, so I would imagine this WCL might have some quirks with the older lens 🤔 But I would hope it works just as fine!
@@BoorayPerry they answered that it's not compatible, sadly. Maybe if someone can confirm that it works with an older model I could try it on my own. I could not return it since I don't live in the US/UK/EU.
@@lionheart4424 Well that's a mystery. It's literally a magnifying glass that screws on the front of the lens. The only thing I can guess is that maybe the distance of the lens from the mount is different?

I would still choose the WCL and let me explain why. It looks cooler. Picking up the Fuji X100vi, for a lot of people, is all about the looks -AND- function. But looks is a huge part of it. It looks retro-inspired cool. When you put the WCL on the X100vi, you can still use the LH-X100 lens hood and it looks AMAZING.The Freewell just doesn't look as cool.
Hi, Where is the the value in this video ? For me it is more a clickbait video than a real A vs B video. What about center sharpness ? No images. What about flair resistance ? No images. What about chromatic aberration ? No images. Sorry to say that's really amateur(ish).

Thanks! I love the Fuji as well but I also love the macro. I'll probably wait a bit and see if I ever actually use the macro before I sell one. :)

No. They are a unit. :)

Many thanks, but we will need to see comparison images at 100% resolution to judge how close they are in sharpness and other optical performance.

Out of curiosity
Q1. Can u stack freewell to fuji wcl? (i.e If u remove the freewell adaptor)
Q2. If u can, does it make it wider?
You can't stack because the WCL has a thread that's inside the lens barrel and the lens has an outside thread
