  • I was bored on Saturday. Rather than sit in front of the TV, I made this simple Morse Key for taking out in the field.

A used rusty morse key heavily worn, battered and old, just sold on ebay for £30 about $45. It looked just like that one you made - only difference is it was made with plastic and commercially made in Japan. Yours looks and seems working great. Well done.

Never thought of it. This key sits in my go kit box for field use. It's getting beat up a bit, but gets the job done. Some day, I'll take the time with my carving tools and do a serious wooden key. That one will get stain and finish.

Is the joints made with bearrings? And how is the contact made between the two wires?

The contact points are just small screws, their heads touch to make contact. The joints are just screws and washers. The washers close the gaps between the arm and the supports and a screw goes through from one support, through the arm into the other support.

Kevin Loughin Does the arm just pivot around the screw? Does it have a big hole bore thoug? (The thickness of the thread on the screw) Or does the wood have thread in it aswell? And another question: how is the arm pulled up. With a spring?

The hole is just a hairs breath larger than the screw threads. The spring came out of an old AA battery holder.

I understand. That is very clever. Thank you for the information.
