Nice video. I have the same exact bike only in 60th anniversary yellow. I did the same exhaust also, but the carbon one. Couldn't stand the stock moped exhaust. The job was hecka easy. So glad I did it. I still have to do the Fender Eliminator and get rid of those hideous pumpkin lights
Looks cool and thanks for posting. I'm thinking of getting a cheaper system, but one that takes out the cat. This given me the confidence to do it myself! Nice one
Sick video! I've got the same exact bike and that's the exhaust I plan on getting too! Definitely pulling this video up on my phone when I put mine on lol
Awesome! Just remember this isn't a complete guide, there's a step or two missing somewhere in there. Make sure to read the installation guide, and enjoy your XSR!
Sam Patel just saw your thread you posted. I didn’t realize you were in Detroit! I’m about and hour north in Grand Blanc lol also glad to see your okay after the wreck man!
Hi Sam, man.... just watched the video of your accident. I hope you are fully recovered by now brother. My question is, were either of your Akra's the "Evolution Line" or "Racing Line"? Apparently the Evolution Line has titanium headers while the Racing Line's headers are made of stainless steel. I'm a real big fan of the baked brownish look once the pipes have been run in, and wondering what you have on your XSR. Any info or help is greatly appreciated. Thank you and all the best Sam👍
Hm, that is a good question. I can for sure tell you that the exhaust I bought has the part number S-Y9R3-HAFT. At the times I bought it (in 2017 and then in 2018) the words "Racing Line" weren't attached to that system - as I remember, the Racing Line name was meant to indicate the later version that was mostly metal but with a carbon fibre tip (S-Y9R8-HEGEHT). However, if you search for the first p/n now, you'll see it described as "stainless steel header with titanium muffler." I'm not sure if Akra changed it over the years - there was a brief period of time where my system was unavailable for purchase - but even if it were always stainless steel, it wouldn't surprise me as the system is still pretty heavy. Not as heavy as the stock system, but not light enough to convince me they're full titanium. Either way, both materials will change colour to a degree - the very top of my headers are now purpley-blue, going to brownish gold, then to a light tan throughout the muffler. Now that I look at Akra's website, it doesn't even look like there's an Evolution Line available for the MT-09.
Thank you for the quick and thorough reply, this definitely helps. I'm gonna do some more research and see what I can dig up. I also forgot to mention that your welds on your pipe seemed to have a bronze colour where the ones currently on the market seem to be silver in colour. It could just be the picture that is throwing it off.
@@vince1862 I think that's the lighting, and also the colour of the cardboard I've got underneath the bike reflecting off the pipes. Before I turned on the bike, the headers were very silver. I only have the one photo from before I put on the pipe, but you can tell here that the whole header is nothing but silver: i.imgur.com/d81f6xj.jpg
Oh yeah a ton of backfire on deceleration. I don't know whether the flash would eliminate it, I've ridden an FZ/MT-09 with a carbon Akra, it was flashed and it still popped a bunch. Same with a flashed MT-09 with a Yoshimura. Personally I love all the pops and bangs so not an issue for me 😀 Doesn't really hurt the bike.
Canola. Seriously though I run Yamalube Semi-synth 10W-50. But do your own research. Every person you ask this question will give you a different answer. That's partially because there is no 'right' answer, pretty much every motorcycle oil will give you the same results. As long as you're putting in climate-appropriate, JASO MA rated juice and changing it close enough to the right interval, you will not adversely affect your machine.
Got mine from RevZilla. It might be discontinued though, they replaced it with a newer (uglier) titanium version, but I think you might still be able to find the old version if you search for part number S-Y9R3-HAFT. Quick Google search tells me Biohazard Cycles, Vivid Racing, and CarpiMoto still have it. Good luck!
It doesn't *need* to be flashed but I've heard that even the stock bike benefits from a flash. It's your preference. I liked the bike's throttle response when it was stock, and it's the same with the pipe + pops on deceleration. If you find your throttle too touchy or don't like decelerative pops, consider a flash.
I'm 5'6" (1.69m) with a 32" inseam - inseam is a much more relevant figure here - anyway, I can't flat foot both feet but I can get one foot fully down and the toes of the other foot. It's not sketchy once you get used to it, and because this bike feels so light you'll get used to it very quickly. I usually only put one foot down at all at stops now and feel fine.
@@samhindupatel thanks for the response. Im thinking about this echaust or the race line exhaust from akropovic. But the race line isnt street legal (in the Netherlands) because it has no catalyst. I fotten heard poeple say that you need the tune the engine because it began consuming more fuel because of a bad fuel/air mix ratio.
@@Teedeedubbelu It is true that you would benefit from a tune with most other exhausts but Akrapovič specifically makes their systems to be used with the stock mapping. Also, I'm not too familiar with the racing line but with most other lines they sell the catalyst separately. That was the case for me, I bought the cat as an add-on the second time I got the exhaust.
I removed it a couple weeks later. I could record it as it sounds now, but it wouldn't be on the same phone so it wouldn't be a true 1:1 comparison. Also... this isn't primarily a sound check video... it's an install video... like it says in the title...
It's a great video since many of us want to know how loud an exhaust might be because we don't want it TOO loud. There's plenty of videos of squids banging off rev limiters with baffles removed.
I didn't reflash my ECU - I also didn't dyno run my bike after (or before) installing the exhaust - but it felt faster to my butt! Sorry dude, don't have a legit answer for you :/

Put some general purpose grease on the gaskets, holds it in place and burns right off ;-)

great job brother!!! Thanx for showing : )
Such a nice bike.
Holy shit that sounds goooooooood
RIP ur neighbor
love this video...
Nice vid! I have the same bike and same exhaust! Sounds awesome! I have a question during intro what shoes are you wearing?
Those are TCX X-Streets (Waterproof)
Sam Patel thanks for quick reply! I'm looking forward to see more awesome videos! Subscribed:)
Did you have any exhaust popping? I've heard you need to flash the ecu to avoid popping.

After installing the exhaust do i need to remap the ECU?
You don't *need* to, no.
Yes you do!!!
@@MrArthurPro no you dont
No, you don't, but if you need to maximize power gain then you should.
Nice video kid...killer bike!
What kind of oil are you running in the XSR 900? Thanks

Hey man where'd you buy this titanium version for the xsr900 from? Thanks in advance!

2 months later wrecked. must have felt too good you went too fast. hope you're ok now.
How tall are you? Can you flat foot that bike, they look tall.

@@skinywhitejesus Anytime. FWIW I feel more confident on the XSR than I do on my FZ6, and I can flat foot that.
Thanks
did you do a engine tune after it?
I did not, with the Akra you don't need to. But you can get a little more hp if you do (even with the stock pipe)

Have the same exhaust on my mt07 sounds so much better wish it went as good as yours though.
Lol, give and take. I want Yamaha to bring the Tracer 700 to the US! I'd slap an Akra on that the second I got it!
Nice job buddy but the Akro bits must have cost a bundle. What are you a trainee banker???
It's not like the XSR is a cheap bike to begin with, the Akra was a pittance in comparison hahaha
Gotta invest if you want the best!

I sooo wish they had that very exhaust for the street triple, it is sexy as fuck!
The Striple already sounds sexy as fuck, let us have this 😅
How much did it cost you for that pipe mate ?
$964 the first time, $969 the second time + $94 for the cat converter, all from RevZilla. US prices.
Why second time?
Because this is what happened the first time: ua-cam.com/video/25CitixV5Gs/v-deo.html
Jeez, I had seen that video, didn’t realise that was you. Very scary, good to see you up and back into it. Ride safe!
funny Video ... Like
use super glue on the gaskets
But I hear almost no difference at all 😂

I didn't reflash my ECU - I also didn't dyno run my bike after (or before) installing the exhaust - but it felt faster to my butt! Sorry dude, don't have a legit answer for you :/
If I had to make an educated guess though you'd probably get more power if you did both, versus just one
Thanks man
