Man I miss Hitchens... What a truly inspired, brilliant mind he was and his death was a loss for the world, not just the atheist community. He truly was a champion for human rights, and the world could only benefit by having more people like him...
    Cheers Mr. Hitchens!

Calling him brilliant and inspired doesn’t even touch his genius. Closest thing to an ironic deity given his prose. I’m sure his IQ bordered ludicrous. And I say that because a true genius can perfectly intertwine almost pedantic photographic memory, while also maintaining humor at the core of his pathos. He is legendary.

@@bardoface Very belated reply but so be it...
Just wanted to say I agree with you fully. And what surprised me, is that he obviously can't adapt it. He should know by then, after former debates, that he doesn't need to shout to make his point across, because with someone like Hitchins there's no need to. Hitchins will NOT be intimidated nor bullied.
I have to admit, that I really hated this guy after two other debates but the way he approaches Hitchins at the end made me realize that it was all in the heat of the debate. I had to change my mind about Schmuley.

Agnes, because that is one of those idiotic things that christians love to say and is just absolute nonsense.
If your understanding is just superficial soundbites that is the kind of thing you say.
Dig deeper, peel off those onion layers to reach a deeper understanding -you have a brain.
I'm sorry, but I feel so disappointed when human beings parrot this kind of rubbish, because I know people, including yourself, are capable of so much more.
We are biological organisms, but not merely: we are amazing biological organisms capable of so much.
All of the processes that occur in our body are chemistry, which do consist of "molecules in motion" but that is how our body functions and allow our brain to work and all of our biological systems to function.

Well he goes on to explain what he meant by that, he seems to have said it to garner some shock & it worked. This involves, as he put It, an eternal legacy 'after-life' such as MLK.. which is what nonbelievers would associate more with.
It's funny, many of my Jewish friends speak in a tone similar to his... almost the same voice. Wouldn't say it's having an ego as much as being eccentric.. but since when is having an ego a bad thing? lol

Nobody takes themselves seriously when they spout off about reliving their childhood through their children and my fading memories of past dead relatives is nothing like them still being alive and talking about death as we all do. It amazes me that in all the religious debates I have seen, not once has anyone raised the subject of how these different ideas came to be. Clearly, to anyone with the most cursory experience of reality, the idea that reliable information can be accumilated through revelation is ridiculous, in comparison to the scrutiny involved in science. These two methods of achieving knowledge are so far removed from each other that it astounds me no-one mentions it.

  • @mykidsdad36

Most of the religious that I have seen Christopher Hitchens debate, just as Rabbi Shmuley does here, when pressed, completely deny what their holy text teach. Pinning down their beliefs, is like trying to take a finger and pin a glob of jello, it's impossible. They pick and choose which of their religious text they wish to believe and or practice, and diminish the importance of the rest. Then they have the nerve to criticize and condemn the fundamentalist of their faiths, who unlike them, are not hypocritical in denying what their holy text state and infers. They are not "true" religionist, they are liberal humanist that are too insecure and afraid to shed the traditions of their family and their faith, and in my opinion living more of a lie than those who are.

None of his opponents can claim such devotion. He began to understand just how popular he was becoming on UA-cam in the final years of his life and whilst he appreciated the extra exposure, he wasn't entirely happy that his video form was surpassing his writing. He was a writer first and foremost before he was a public speaker. I don't think we needed him as a podcaster although he certainly would've done a far better job than Sam Harris does with his boring drone of a voice.

I could feel the suspense of an imminent Hitchslap from the moment Smuley mentioned the atrocities of the 20th century. I swear the Jaws music started playing in my head as soon as Christopher began his response.

I believe in what may or may not be a totally made up for The X Files Native American afterlife legend. No one is truly gone until the last person who remembers them is gone too.
Remember Hitchens. Give him the only afterlife he would ever want. The one in our minds, driven by reason, not dogma, myth, or superstition.

Oh, I disagree. He's one of the best and brightest of theists. He's no dummy, and though his accent and presentation grate on me, I hear a very advanced mind behind his words. I'm an anti-theist, but of all CH's debate partners I think Shmuley is one of the very best.
