The goalies have been LOCKE IN these playoffs. Unbelievable saves are happening every night. Freddie just got his.
It’s crazy how these playoffs are really really showing the difference good goaltending can make. Every team leading a series has an amazing goalie. It just goes to show how important a good goalie is to a team. It’s not just about them making saves, its the psychological benefit making those saves has on your team. A good goalie gives a teams offence the confidence they need to make the type of risky plays required to score in the playoffs. Teams with bad goalies simply can’t make the same kind of plays because they have to pay way more attention to maintaining possession as any turnover could result in a goal. When you have a Bob, or a Freddie, or a Sway behind you, it gives you that confidence to make those plays because you know they are going to protect that net. If you have a Sammy or a George behind you, you just can’t have that same confidence. I mean, even Hellebuyck is not really performing well enough to have confidence in, which is shocking considering the regular season performance.

Good goalie certainly goes a long way, but avs proved you can win with trash, still doing it to this day actually.

@@paulthompson8793ah yes I forgot about the elite level defense Toronto was playing. Also the bubble year he had .934 save percentage in the playoffs and a 1.84 gaa. If you don’t think a good defense helps a goalie then idk what to tell you. The amount of goalies the canes have improved just by having a decent defense in front of them.
Maple Leafs fans are wondering where this version of Freddy Andersen was during his tenure with the blue and white because they can sure use him now.
Goalies tend to play a lot better for teams with defense. 😂

Don't be silly, he was a good goalie for the Leafs but would always choke in the playoffs, had nothing to do with the team built around him. Canes have also seen that side of him despite having "good" defense
@@paulthompson8793 canes haven’t seen that side of him. He was first in GAA and 4th in save percentage his first playoffs last year. He’s been great and kept them in the games this series as well. He’s been a much more consistent and better goalie in Carolina.

He was laying down because he was clipped by an Islanders player. Nothing intentional of course but he was in the crease so regardless of the save it would have been GTI.
