It may have been mentioned before, but adding some fiberglass rods (driveway markers) to the pvc will add resistance and durability to the limbs. Essentially it should double the draw weight, if thats your end goal
You passed my Charisma Check. I'm glad I found your channel. I keep watching videos even on things I already know about because I just enjoy hearing you talk about it and it's always fun to see how someone else does things. Thank you for being you.
This design has really inspired me. I want to try making one like this with the double recurve design. What is the draw weight on Ladykiller? I'm very curious what kind of force such a mechanism can produce.
I really liked your crossbow it looks really nice especially with the stain and paint job. Just a little bit of advice for the next time you do this .The problem with completely flattening the pvc and not tapering it is it will make it flex more towards the middle and cause it to either kink or split in the middle. So it's best if it's thicker and stiff towards the middle and gradually taper towards the ends. I have built both crossbow and bows made from pvc this will greatly improve the power. If you didn't already you should try to round the edges of the catch or the nut as it's called this is to keep it from wearing down the string. Finally if you want to get a smoother release the notch that engages with the trigger should be 1/8"-3/16" from the center.
@@SkillTree no problem one more thing I forgot to mention screwing it the the stock might also cause it splitting I had this problem occur when I did something similar. So another thing you could do is either drill a hole through the stock behind the bow. Get a bunch of cords wrap it a bunch of times around the bow and in between the holes. Or you could glue another piece of wood in the front and drill a hole through the wood but, leave the prod alone. I have a crossbow pistol it's attached by there being a mortise in the stock and a wedge in front of it. Then there's a hole in the front of the stock which there's a threaded rod and you have to use a allen wrench to tighten it. But if you use a bolt it will make it simpler.
Sweet...vids are definitely a great distraction in these crazy times and adds a sense of fun and normalcy back into life. Keep up the good work. You'll have to make you a hip quiver to hold your bolts now.
It definitely shoots, tho, I haven't recorded how fast. You can control that with the material used too. The same design but a wooden, horn, or even spring steel will make it shoot even faster.
Hey weird question. Real bow lims go forward when unstrung. Then when strung there pulled in the opposite direction. Soo I guess my question being was the video way of making the bow more larp safe or was it lacking information. No judgement of course. Just now sure
I absolutely love your channel! You deserve way more subs! [Video Idea] Ot would be a big build, but I would love to see a midevil catapult that has wooden wheels and maybe a guid to making human safe ammo? Like a fluffy dodgeball. I want to build one for Larping.
been looking into this myself, and on average if you can keep your draw weight at about 30 lbs with a 12 in bolt, it should be within acceptable power levels and the other components shouldn't matter, I doubt you would be striking with the things
Uh, yah. Ya putcha clothes in a draw and you drawer a pitcha... Seriously, though, hearing the accent come through cracks me up all the time. I lost mine pretty quick, what with not wanting to draw attention in high school, but draw and drawer stuck around for a long time. 🤣
Great video - do love the way it comes together and the use of the plastic pipe to keep the poundage low. I was wondering why you left it more plank like than carving the wood down round the grip to make it a much more comfortable bow to wield? (and a bit lighter by losing more oak!) The trigger system is a nice simple design I wonder if there is something simple that could be added to provide a safety catch of some style. Shooting compound bows with a release aid myself and having seen other crossbows in the past, a safety could be a good thing!
Quick before you read the rest of the comments, RUN DOWNSTAIRS AND TURN YOUR MIC OFF! Great Build, just my $.02 but I would leave Lady Killer as she is and build a whole new crossbow for bow 2.0. nice trigger but how do you cock the bowstring if the trigger wheel isn't in the right position? I have been researching trigger mechanisms for my next build
O.k. so far I've seen 2 of your videos (new comer to the channel) and both were based on medieval weapons. But what about office warfare? Something that can fit on the desk and let your coworkers know that you're prepared (or maybe preparing) to defend yourself against any suprise attacks.. like a mini Ballista or other catapult that can sit at the ready. (And I'm not talking about one of those poorly made popsicle stick ones either, but something that will stand the test of time.
Not positive. I guess just going by feel and comparing it to my bow, it is probably in the 50# ish range. I could probably get more if I shorten the string a bit tho. It seems like it could stand to flex a bit more
Hey. So after a lot of thought i figured i'd like to share some project ideas and most of the things I know on the subject. Is there a way to contact you with the details ? Nice work as always, by the way.
A DC 15 Con save isn't that hard to pass at later levels, and poison resistance is pretty common, and a light crossbow is theoretically the weakest*, but with +3 base damage, 3d8 on a failed save and half on a success, and a chance to poison, that's a seriously strong crossbow! 4d8 and a status effect before sneak attack is even applied! *A heavy crossbow of course has a bigger damage die, but a hand crossbow can be fired twice in a turn with the Crossbow Expert feat. This is more of an upgrade the fewer attacks you get.
Build a Trojan Rabbit from Quest for the Holy Grail. I was going to build one in my backyard for the kids to play on and was told I wasn't allowed. If you build one and show how cool it is maybe I can change her mind.
Who wouldn't allow that? It sounds properly epic! Be sure to train some African Swallows to bring your kids some coconut shells so they can horseback riding too!
You can buy small bone blanks i want to see you buy alot of them glue them together and make a bone crossbow stock and have the crossbow be called the forbidden bow of the damned souls
Imagine putting this much effort into a video that gets 3.2k views and 7.2k subs. D: I feel bad for this guy, he deserves way more subs, even if he does look like a throwback to 2003 with that hair and earrings.

Soo happy to see Lady Killer IRL!! Makes me want to make Scarlet's gear now!
My kid saw the title Lady Killer and then said “that’s an anybody killer” I laughed so hard 😂
Good vid, as usual! Really gets me in the crafting mood.
Hope you make something fun!
This design has really inspired me. I want to try making one like this with the double recurve design.

Ah yes, the Japanese saw.
Always gets the job done.
really curious bout the draw strength of the crossbow for LARPing
PVC is a bit brittle so would electricians PVC work the same because it is more flexible.
that crossbow works and looks amazing.
Dude, that is sweet! Nice choice with the counter limbs, it definitely allowed for the spider theme to pop out!
Thanks! I am super happy with it 😁. Glad the spider came out as well as it did.

I’m thinking of building but I want to know if this is just a model or does it shoot well and how fast it shoots

Btw, i've updated that trigger mechanism 😉 now it's cockes itself 😉 I'll show you as soon as the hands reach discord 🙂

@@SkillTree it's super easy tu make. A few springs, and a stopper. to prevent the roller from spinning and jamming.
How do you make a Larp-Safe version of this? I'm not sure one make out of wood and metal would be allowed.

Excited to see the metal limbs for this build
Random thought. If you add some plastic driveway stakes inside the bow before you do the flattening of the pvc you'll get a much stronger bow.
That's seriously awesome.
Also drawering?
😂 Boston overcompensation, I suppose. Either we omit the "r"s all together or we stick them where they don't belong.
Uh, yah. Ya putcha clothes in a draw and you drawer a pitcha...

Not positive. I guess just going by feel and comparing it to my bow, it is probably in the 50# ish range. I could probably get more if I shorten the string a bit tho. It seems like it could stand to flex a bit more
In theory, could we make the stirrup out of PVC as well? Or would that flex too much to assist in the draw?

A question of scale, as kids WILL climb the outside. Which has added risk for a mobile piece.
But it should be a nice simple (and large) project.
