  • Spring has arrived in the Grow Paradise nursery and tropical style garden. In today's video we are going to look at our own tropical style garden borders, sharing what has worked for us through winter and what changes we are hoping to make in the garden. Many rare and half-hardy tropical style plants have survived the cool temperatures of winter and are now showing signs of recovery and new growth.
Unfortunately there have also been plant losses through winter, with some experiments demonstrating that not every exotic plant has the resilience to shrug off the weather of a cold British winter.
Don't beat yourselves up if a plant hasn't survived, it's part of the journey. Creating a tropical garden is a continual journey of discovering new plants for your patch of paradise while saying goodbye to others that may not have worked. We love the excitement of Spring, it's a time that emerging new buds and leaves show you what plants are working and which need a rethink. Now is the perfect time to take an opportunity to make changes in your garden for the upcoming season.

Oh I have been following this channel so long I remember the clay and the snow lol and you adding loads of spent mushroom compost. That's so telling where you plan to put the pond how much you have improved the soil over the years! P.s. I am still in mourning for the stream 😂

I’m so excited to have found your channel! I’m in western Pennsylvania in the US so definitely not tropical but I’ve been searching for hardy tropical-like plants for my landscape that can stand our climate , now zoned 6b. I look forward to watching your videos for ideas & tips. Your garden looks amazing!

That Begonia is stunning! Also early enough to sprout if you see them above the ground already :) I was told my Grandis won't come up until may

Good morning Craig! Your garden is looking fantastic! I love that Purple Fantasy!! I have never seen one before 😊 I am adding the Cigar Plant to my garden this year, along with a couple new to me Salvias. I am gardening in zone 9b Texas Gulf Coast area. The past few days have been in the mid 80's lows in the 50's (F) loving it! Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden. Take care.

Your Garden is looking great. I live in New Zealand the 5 finger pseudopanax is a popular indoor, entrance or patio plant. I live on the edge of a commercial forest, where the Pseudopanax varieties grow wild under the tree canopies. So beautiful

I haven't commented for a while but I have been trying to grow kapok trees, they've seeded well but not grown very quickly, have you ever tried Cape gooseberry it doesn't look very tropical but atleast it does give a lot of fruit

Would placing an Eriobotrya Japonica in a pretty open spot be pushing my luck? I had it in mind for 1 specific spot, but it would have 0 shelter at the stem if I don't plant other hardy plants around it.. I suppose having it by the fence is another very essential part to it's survival? In most Dutch webshops of growers, it is listed as a plant that prefers a sheltered spot.. I live in NL and also had around -5 in the garden at the lowest this winter

    Garden looking good,however a slight correction,Persicaria
Purple Fantasy will run,I had it last year apearing a metre away from the parent plant,it even attempted to colonise one of my tree ferns.

Thanks, we’ve not experienced root runners in our garden, only rooting stems. Plants will behave differently in different locations though! Thanks for watching 😀
