    Having lived in a 1978 Chevy Van for a couple of years I really appreciated everything you had to say here. It also reminded me of how much I miss it (sigh). I really can't recall ever feeling so free before (or since) in my life. It's been on my mind for months lately and I feel I'll do it again soonish rather than later. Thanks so much for this!

    Thanks -- that was a good talk, like sitting with a friend who is offering good advice. I hope all is well with you, and you are continuing to enjoy the RV lifestyle. On my side, I am selling my class A, and buying a Class B (Pleasure Way Excel), and I hope to enjoy the additional freedom that you discuss in this video. Thanks again!

    the video....I am 65 and my lifetime dream has been to travel 6-12 months in a RV..and now I know I want a class B. The mid and late 90 models are hard to find (in good shape). Thanks again!

      Charles Michael You're welcome! I find that people with the 90's class B RVs tend not to sell them; for good reason. I looked throughout BC and the prairies long and hard for a B+ (widebody) and could not find one for less than $30k. I eventually found the one I'm in now which is a small class B at just 18' long. Sounds like you have an awesome adventure planned and I hope you find the right RV to make your dream a reality.

    I hate to play Monday morning quarterback, but I would have waited to sell the boat til I was sure that the job would last. But we all are guilty of jumping the gun sometimes.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  5 років тому +1

      It's easy to find another boat, it's getting a good slip at a marina that accommodates liveaboards that's the issue. The marina I was at did not allow for absent owners so hanging on to the slip was not an option without pissing them off, which I was not willing to do. In any case RV living has turned out to be more suitable for me and has let me expand my range of employment opportunities as I am not tied to a location or city.

    listened to this as find the whole tiny homes and diff rvs as well as earthship homes intriguing, the comment you made at the end regarding cars/trucks/rvs, well things you drive, and fire arms, AGREE. i could not mentally continue being part of the ones who respond to, umm so called accidents, (THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DO, IT IS NOT AN EASY THING TO HAVE TO DO), as far as i am concerned, you drink or text or some other foolish thing while driving, and hurt or kill someone(s), it should be attempted murder or murder, as it is no diff than firing a gun at random and a bullet hitting and hurting or killing or directly aiming at someone and killing them. driving is a privilege not a right

    Gunnut,I feel you on the ability to have your press. I don't know if you solved the ability to mount your press yet. I know there are a few companies that sell prefabricated mounts that you can use to attach and detach from a surface, like the table top in your van. may want to google it. I started with a lee hand press and ended up with a hornady progressive press... couldn't live without it now.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  8 років тому

      +MrZola1234 No, I haven't come up with anything creative regarding mounting a press. So far I've been making do with the hand press. I just picked up a rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor so I'm going to much more motivated to have a proper press mounted for dealing with bumping my .308 brass down to 6.5 Creedmoor. Most of my flat surfaces lack the strength to handle a press, so I'm going to have to fabricate some kind of removable pedestal that bolts into the floor.

    funny you mention 6 feet tall...that's me. I was looking at the class Bs for many of the same reason, agility to go places. I ended up with a short 20 foot class C wide body, not as agile, but the inside ceiling height is perfect, I felt immediately comfortable in it. of course I could slouch in a class B, but I would forever be smacking my head on things and that gets annoying after awhile.

    Enjoyed listening to your video. Do you get lonely? Could you please tell me what procedure you use to get the internet? We're going to be moving onto a boat next year. Lots of things to learn first. We also watched all your boat vids. Good advice given. Wondered why you'd given the boat up until i saw this today.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 років тому +1

      Jacqui Searle Glad you liked the video! No, I don't get lonely; I'm too busy exploring, reading, cooking, cleaning, and enjoying life for that. For internet I use two different providers, one that only works in various hotspots in BC and AB, and another that gives me data on the cell network (expensive) which works anywhere I can get a reasonable cell signal. Good luck living on the boat, I hope you find it as enjoyable as I did!

      Van Isle Gunnut Glad to hear you don't get lonely. I know as i've approached middle age, i care less and less being around stressful situations. This usually involves being around crowds of people. Don't get me wrong, i do care about good people.
      Thank you for the advice on the internet. I found a good site recommending MIFI 3 dongle 7GB as a pay as you go isp. You might not have heard of that in Canada, but that's what a lot of live a boarders use here in England i discovered today.
      I thoroughly enjoy listening to your stress free approach to life.
      Good luck with it all!

      +Gypsy Rollin Glad you enjoyed the video! I don't do anything unusual to make a living, right now I have a job keeping me busy so I don't get to go on any adventures further than where I can go on the weekend. To be honest I live normally minus a lot junk most people have but don't need , I just opt not to pay rent or a mortgage and live simply instead.

    What are you going to do for the up and coming winter..I saw a couple vlogs from people in vans up there..freezing in parking lots...U coming down to the US...south or what...??? Teddy Chris Vancouver Island, particularly the Southern end, has very mild weather. We rarely see snow and if we do it doesn't last long. I might get a spot in an RV park for the cold/wet months for convenience, particularly if I'm busy with work, but for the most part I only need a small heat source for the colder days and at night.

    • @ScaredStupid

      +Graeme Collin That's a tough question actually. For being able to stay mobile and chase job opportunities, the RV wins hands down, If I was retired and had the economic freedom, the boat would win.

    I've been researching van dwelling for a few days. It's very appealing. I'm tired of property taxes, utilities, etc. What kind of class B motor home can I get with $5000-$15000 dollars? How much would it cost me to live in a RV being very frugal? I wanna sell my home and move into an RV like yours. I want a shower and a toilet though. Can you recommend a class b camper van rv? Right now I gotta pay 100 bucks a month on utilities and 575 a year on property taxes. I wanna get rid of all that. I'm tired of this system and the ratrace. I wanna live free. Got any tips for me?

    • @JohnnyTango111
      @JohnnyTango111 8 років тому

      I just found out my home is worth at least 50k. If I sell it for 50k and spend 20k on a class b motor home I got 30k left over to survive for a while until I get a new job. I've been out of work for 2 years now. I've been paying 575 a year for property taxes and 100 bucks a month on utilities. Living expenses gotta be less on a rv right? Or am I gonna end up paying more on a rv because of fuel and other costs? I survived on $150 dollar monthly budget in my trailer home. Would I end up paying more than that on a rv? I wanna live on 20 dollars a month if possible. 50 at most.

    Hello: Enjoyed your sharing. What tires are you running? I saw them in your tour but did not get the name and type. Thought about moving to the Island but don't know if I could hack the rain.
    I am from central Alberta and half the guys I worked with were from B.C.. Just did a video on the oil slowdown you might find interesting. I am pipefitting for the oil and gas. If you get a chance her it is: ua-cam.com/video/2SbM3ULcHNc/v-deo.html
    Hope to meet up sometime.

      VanoRama RV The tires are Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. The rain isn't as bad here on the Island as everyone makes it out to be; in any case it sure as heck beats having to deal with snow.
      Thanks for the link, I'll definitely watch your video in a bit!
      If you do make it to the Island I can show you some great spots to hang out.
