- Today Cabramatta is a vibrant cultural hub but 20 years ago up to 40 rival crime gangs wanted control of Sydney’s drug trade and they weren’t afraid to kill for it.

Crazy how Cabramatta looks so much cleaner nowadays, yet everywhere around has gotten worse

Hahaha i went to liverpool boys high and that style was the in thing back them. Aussie viet gangster style hahahaha
No chance they are TNs more like air maxes back then
Tarago and swords
Wouldn't be laughing if they had a gun in your face
I grew up with highschool friends who joined opposing vietnamese gangs to 5t. Some ended up dead, some are drug addicts, some recovering from old injuries that disable them for life. It's a hard. Some of these kids grew up with domestic violence because their fathers were drunks or suffering from ptsd. They were just children whose only family is their friends. At that time, I didn't have the perspective I have now and thought, gangs were a cool thing because no one would pick on you. Luckily my brothers and I we didn't join any gangs and that's maybe because we had a more stable family.
My brother joined a Vietnamese gang in the 90s in Australia. He was too much of a softie to do anything violent so they left him selling drugs and watching drug houses. Most of his friends died in the early 2000s. He, himself was in and out of prison throughout his twenties and died at 33 in 2012. At his funeral many gang members did attend to show respect. It was fkn weird to have a gang boss express condolences to my mother, even told my mother what a good kid my brother was.
what viet gang was this? cause 5T wouldn’t of been active in 2012
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Mad story bro did you write a book
I grew up in cabramatta in the 90s. I remember seeing the 5t boys all the time. definitely saw some crazy stuff just by living in cabramatta in the 90s. most people will find it hard to believe these days.

To talk Vietnamese gang culture without talking of racist, horrendous politics is to misunderstand these guys entirely. Awesome, family loving human beings.

I remember coming to Australia in 1981, our family was lucky to live in north shore suburb Brookvale. However a group of young (age 18+) Vietnamese boys that use to hang out in Bankstown, rented out a room at my parents apartment. They were very nice to my parents and me. One day in 1983-84 a group of them came back home to my parents place with battle wounds, I assume they were in a gang fight. Then my family move and never seen those boys again. As the years went by, I asked my parents about those boys, one by one in the 1990s my parents updated me of their deaths.
Scary
Brookvale isnt north shore soz.. its northern beaches and one of the worst areas down this side lol
Dont know much about 5T but always heard about them when i was younger. Never seen a documentary made about them before
i remember in the late 80s in my high school the Vietnamese and Lebanese kids were in an almost perpetual state of conflict....worst we had was a kid chasing another kid with a machete, lucky for the other kid the machete wielder was a slow runner....another nearby high school was heavily linked with 5T and at that school the kids were known to carry guns...
which highschool was it?

Don’t know if Busby was necessarily dangerous, but one of my uncles back then was selling drugs straight on the playgrounds in the 90’s when he was in school and not on the streets 😂 There were instances he had close calls and some kids started overdosin, never traced it back to him somehow and he graduated

My brother went to school with a 5T member. Being Asian himself, he was teased by some racist Anglo's. The 5T member heard of this, him and his crew tracked down the racist at a house party and slashed him up in front of party goers outside - making a statement.
And now in jail
Nice
Asians chop chop

which is why they weren't welcome in Oz in the first place. Not racism. Logical. And by "they" I mean the criminal Vietnamese element, not the lovely kind and gentle Buddhists.
@@rotkatzeredcat4284 kids and young immigrants hard it tough in those days, where as racism today is just mainly verbal racism back then was quite physical.. the only way to stop racially motivated physical attacks was to be just as physically violent back as a deterrence. this societal racism only created monsters when the deterrence worked and physical racist attacks against them lessened because they were willing to use even more violence than the average racist that wanted to get physical, the youth were hardened enough to become "criminally ambitious".

The problem with Viet gangs is that they are not very subtle and don't know how to plan for the future. Good soldiers but not leaders. That's why many of them worked for the Chinese.
