Mahmoud has never changed since they've gotten together. She chose this life. She chose to convert without thoroughly learning about the culture or the religion. I dont feel bad for her.

Nicole Is so weird. Why would she marry Mahmoud if she can’t accept his religion and culture ? She likes playing the victim.
Perhaps he and his male family members acted as if there weren’t many rules to follow or played down their differences in the beginning.
I’ve seen online videos of people converting to Islam at Kiosks, with the proselytiser telling passer by-ers, “hey come here and convert, it’s no big deal, you believe in one god don’t you? Well ok see no problem, all you have to do is say something in Arabic and bam you are a Muslim. Simple right?” And people actually do it without any knowledge or understanding but of course that was the intention of the salesman behind the counter all along.
Nicole says she wasn’t told much about the rules and expectations beforehand so I’m sure they appealed to her ina similar way and planned to spring it on her little by little.

The criticism in the video wasnt about the conflict between Nicole and Mahmoud, it was others asking them in a demeaning way whether they were going to force their kids to be Muslim, they didnt ask whether they would raise their kids Muslim or Christian, guess why? I can't speak for others but in my case, absolutely. It disgusts me how many children are being indoctrinated with religion by their parents, it's not truly a choice for them and religion harms so many children (and so many adults as well).

the interviewer had a point. like if this wasn’t a islamic faith would these questions even be asked? i think the missing key piece to this convo that keeps getting glazed over is mahmoud had this conversation of what his expectations were prior to marriage and nicole agreed. it’s like people keep forgetting that but run with this narrative that he’s oppressing her or forcing her which i think isn’t the case.

This may be an a unpopular opinion, but there’s some thing I really don’t like about Gabe. To jump all over them regarding Islam, when he was all people should be tolerant of others beliefs. I don't usually like Mahmoud but I agree with him here. Nobody is forced to be religious but if you make a comment to do so, then obviously they will be expected to respect the traditions that come with it. If you begin to build a family obviously you would want to uphold the same values.

He was well aware who he was marrying. Mahmoud needs to respect Nicole's culture and beliefs as well. She is fully in her right to change her mind about her faith. Faith is something incredibly personal and it is between you and God and nobody else has the right to dictate it to you. Given that he paints himself as such a religious man, he should work on his own awful attitude first before he tells Nicole how to dress and how to act.
There are also a lot of Christians in Egypt, I have been there and saw that. I was surprised because before I though like 90% was muslim.
