Lol. You could have used one of those old school sponge tipped applicators for the eye shadow. I used to always use those. And a powder puff would have been good too. I do think we get caught up in the brush game. Women have worn makeup for years before brushes came along. Great video!!

GREAT VIDEO ZABRENA!! What most of the younger beauty UA-camrs don't know or understand is that the best seasoned Makeup Artists learned to master makeup application using their fingers. When you know how to apply and blend makeup with your fingers you can control the application better. If their tools go missing or they're unable to clean them onset, they can still apply makeup. I use a combination of both when applying my own makeup. Applying my corrector & foundation with my fingers is much faster, I apply foundation in circular motions like a brush, then add more where needed tapping it in for better coverage. Contouring & highlighting I use fingers for creams, brushes for powders sometimes blending with both methods. Then I use brushes for shadows but sometimes fingers to blend. Using both methods, especially with certain foundations is much faster than constantly reaching for a brush.

I loved this whole fingers idea, kuddos to you for using powders! Mary Greenwell, who was Princess Diana MUA, has two very entertaining tutorials on Lisa Eldridge's channel (one of the videos is precisely about Diana's most loved look) showcasing how much she uses her fingers. She's a freestyle advocate and a very cute and funny lady to watch!

I’ve gone back to applying foundation with my fingers. Old school! I get a better feel for how it’s blending and no brush or sponge to wash. Just my hands!

The few moments I use cream/ liquid foundation and pot/stick concealer I use my fingers as well. I cringe when I see people mix liquid foundation in a palette, being warmed by body heat does wonders for most liquid foundation formulas.

I'm so glad to hear that Gia is doing better! It's hard using your fingers with certain products. I always put my eyeshadow base and cream eyeshadow on with my fingers. And often times I put my lid color using my fingers as well. But I always use a brush to blend. I like putting on a lighter coverage base using my fingers. MAC Face & Body and MUFE go on better using your fingers. To apply it, I take some of the foundation, rub it between my fingers and then massage it onto my face. Similar to how I put a moisturizer on.

A lot of ladies in the blind community apply eye shadow with their fingers. When I first started with vision loss, I did because it was easier. Before that I didn’t know a whole lot about make up tools and just used the sponge applicators that came with eye shadows. I use brushes now, but sometimes on bad vision days I will use my fingers.

I have had Gia in my prayers. Glad that she is feeling better. It's so scary when the little ones get sick.
I still, in a pinch will use my fingers for my foundation. It depends on the type of finish that I want, and the foundation that I am using.
I also find with some shadows, especially metallic or frosty formulas, that my fingers do a better job than the brushes.

Could you make a video applying makeup with items you have in your kitchen? A balled up piece of plastic wrap, a silicone brush, etc. The Dollar Store or Dollar General or Dollar Tree would have many of the items so you wouldn't use anything on your face that you'd actually use in the kitchen. Can you tell I'm bored? LOL. Love the channel. So happy to hear that the little one's on the mend. Enjoy the coming weekend!

Hi Zabrena, I was so excited when I saw that you were doing this video with your fingers. I have multiple sclerosis, I’ve had it for 35 years and at this point both legs are paralyzed and my dominant hand which is my left hand I’m no longer able to use nor my left arm. The only thing that is still workable is my right hand and although I am ambidextrous it doesn’t make it much easier when I’m trying to apply my make up. I was especially interested in seeing how you do your eyes with your hands. Believe me everything you were saying about, this is ridiculous or this is really hard are things that come out of my mouth every day. Thanks for doing this video even though my reasons are different than others I still really appreciate it!

A quick tip for apply loose powder - sprinkle it in the palm of one hand and dust your hands together to distribute it over your palms and fingers. Then press palms to large areas of the face and neck and use fingers on smaller areas like the undereyes.

Some extra hand makeup tips for those who could use em!
Spreading foundation works easier using both the index and middle finger.
BLush and contous can also be easily applied using the part of your palm right under the thumb. Not fingers, per say, but very handy technique.

Brushes weren’t really a thing when I started with makeup; I found using two fingers for cheek applications gave more control. There were always powder puffs though, so I think you can take a pass on the finger method for that😊

I’ve been using my fingers to apply eyeshadow for forever. On any given day, I pop a shimmery champagne on the lids, a darker shade in the crease with my fingers. A little liner and mascara, and I’m out the door. I’m usually in too much of a rush to futz with a brush.

So glad the baby is feeling better. I hate when my kids get sick, I feel so bad for them, and I'm mommy im suppose to make everything better and they still feel bad. Its so heartbreaking..... I think your makeup still turned out pretty! Ive REALLY been enjoying applying my concealer with my finger, thats the only way I do it now thanks to you. Foundation I use to use my fingers before I started using a sponge. Ive never been able to make a brush work with foundation, ever. Now powder products, id be lost without my brushes. Although I havent been using a brush for face powder, I use my sponge for that it works so much better for me. I still cant BAKE, thats a hot mess on me.

So glad your baby feels better!❤ It's so tough when little ones are sick! We were challenged this weekend with our pup (our little girl) having emergency surgery & I had similar sleep patterns (but on the floor lol!)

Hi there Gorgeous! I’m so glad Gia is feeling better. It’s heartbreaking when babies are sick.
I like applying everything except my foundation with my fingers. I use brushes and my fingers for everything else. I don’t like the way foundation feels on my hands. It freaks me out for some reason 🤣
Concealer doesn’t bother me. Maybe because I don’t use a lot. Pressed powder is easier to apply with your fingers. I love you so much Zabrena 💕💕

Elf’s new facial oil is a life saver for me. My sensitive skin dry drinks it up. I have the hydration one. It’s great. I sometimes do eye makeup with my finger. It gives it a smudged look that I personally love. The key for eye shadow is to not be perfect. Do not try your normal eye look. Try one or two shadows on the eye and blend blend blend

This was such a fun video 😄 Glad your little one is feeling better- so hard when our babies are sick- on them and on us. You should try a video using applicators that come with products. I remember when I was 14-16 always using the applicators that came with the packaging- I didn’t have the funds for makeup brushes. But honestly- while most blush brushes were meh- I remember loving powder puffs and sponge tip applicators. Good stuff. How did they become so passé?? 💁‍♀️

It's amazing how different our preferences can be! Do you have a product you ever HAVE to apply with brushes that you find you can't with your fingers?

What about a challenge where you're only allowed to use the applicators that the makeup comes with? Like the eyeshadow sponge tips, little blush brushes, etc.,

I use my fingers all the time lol the tiny makeup sponges are good too. Easy way to apply eyeshadow and face cream products. Powder puff are still one of the best way to use pressed powders lol.

Thanks for this. Mary Greenwell is a phenomenal makeup artist, and she pretty much just uses her hands. Brushes simply aren’t necessary for the bulk of makeup application imho. They’re just something else to sell make up enthusiasts.
Glad to hear your daughter is feeling better.

Hey Zabrena! Can you please try out Colormax Cosmetics and Mally Beauty? They recently went down in price, though they only seem to be available on their website now. But I love everything I’ve tried so far, and would like to know your recommendations.

Im not sure where you're from, but they do sell Mally beauty at Kohls. (I happened to see the display today! 😁) and they also sell quite a bit on QVC. I don't know about the other brand tho

It did look good when you switched to your left hand to apply your eyeshadow. I'm like that; I can't write left handed, or use a brush to apply eyeshadow left handed, but I can apply eyeshadow with my fingers left handed. It's weird, but it just works for some reason. You did really well with just your fingers though Zabrena, great job!

I've been using my fingers for my foundation for a few months now (and concealer and cream blush). For whatever reason, all of my foundations look better when applied with my fingers than with a brush or sponge!

I always use my fingers to apply my foundation and concealer. I tap both after I’ve spread them out to where I want them to be. I have tried brushes and sponges but I always go back to fingers. I guess I’m old school.

I think fingers can apply more product than normal application because brushes and especially sponges absorb a lot of product. I recently had to buy those little triangle sponges because my L’Oreal sponge was lost, and I don’t know how I did my makeup with those for so long....not blendable at all! I must have streaked it on! Lol! I have to have brushes for my eyes though! I love my EcoTools.
