@ 14:12 (Lower left, where excavator is loading dump truck) There will be a 22' high x 359.84' long retaining wall on the south pond, running in a northeast direction. Two 8' diameter pipes from the splitter box (to be constructed) will feed the pond through the wall. Another 253.5' retaining wall will run parallel to the road. Retaining wall details on page 67 of the site plan. The north pond is going away.
David, This is what I get from the plans. Normally all water entering the splitter box will flow to the pond. During a large downpour if the level in the pond reaches 404.4' MSL the water in the splitter will flow directly to the river. At 408' MSL there is a emergency overflow from the pond to the river outfall. The bottom of the pond is at 401' so it will retain water level normally. There will be many plantings in the pond to form a marsh area. This is listed as pond 1 and the smaller pond on the east is pond 2 which is completely different. The building extension will be near the North side of pond 1.
@@eltonray2934 I agree completely, though I forgot to mention it in this comment, that during a large downpour, the water in the splitter will flow directly to the river. Thanks for filling in the part I left out.
@@eltonray2934 One more question if I may.... My understanding of the plans is that pond 2 (Eastside pond) won't have any river outlet. But water will flow over a weir in the pond outfall structure, and into a channel to spread out and soak into the ground?
@@bobcallahan2322 Ok, I'm probably reading the plans wrong. But on page 60 (Lower right), and page 29 (upper right), the drainage channel heading to the southeast appears to end short of the river. Which is why I'm confused and asking questions.
@ 13:48 (Left side of screen, where white truck is) Randy... Any chance of watching that area down by the river for construction? An excavator could be seen down there on Jeff's video, yesterday, 10/7/21 at the 11:40 timestamp. Details on outfall structure on page 58 of the site plan.
I've been wondering why half the road on the west side is concrete, half asphalt. The only thing I can come up with, is maybe the concrete is considered permanent, and the asphalt is subject to change..? I know the plans show they plan to install a retaining wall at the bottleneck to widen that part of the road. Curious that they put mostly(or all) asphalt in the parking area on the west side, and it's all concrete on the east side. Looks like where they're putting up steel in the center slot is not going to have a 2nd floor, (so far anyways).
They are going to add 500 feet more to the building on the south end. Some roads are going to be used for heavy vehicles and are reinforced concrete. And asphalt does not hold up well under heavy traffic. The new frame columns being erected are spaced closer together apparently to bear heavier weight. The center looks like it will support a heavy bridge crane. Each side of the bridge crane may have some structural elements that require building after the bldg frame is finished.
Do you believe that the portions of the building on the east side will be painted black where there aren't windows to simulate windows extending the entire length of the building?
That's an interesting thought! Not quite sure but I could see that being a possibility unless they have other artwork or designs intended for this side of the factory.
@@Bill_N_ATX Yes you're right. Weird at NASA they called some a MULE but don't believe they were fully portable cell towers but on wheels. More like repeaters or extenders. Or I'm just remembering wrong.
I was thinking about that but I think they need to finish closing up the gaps in the concrete walls first. Doing that depends on the progress on the interior as they appear to use the gaps to bring equipment into the building.
@@robertcase4995 We must be thinking about different "north ends". I thought it was referring to the battery area on the northwest corner of the building.
10:51 Has anyone pointed out the fact that it looks like the central corridor structure will not be having any floors, ie it's a one story construction. There is definitely a lack of crossmembers to allow a floor to be built. What in the world can they be making with in this area?
@@ThreeNoTrump_100 Yes, but except for the stamping press cathedral, and the casting cathedral, both of which were made with concrete pillars, this is the only area of the Austin Gigafactory built without at least one more floor. I wonder why they chose steel pillars in this case and not Concrete?
My guess is that the north alley and south alley bridge cranes will replace the loading docks. Unloading containers from flatbed trucks, rotating them 90 degrees, and lining them up for unloading inside the building. The bridge cranes can then pick up empty containers and put them back on the trucks. Total time spent on receiving a delivery... Two - five minutes.
