@ifishcatfish I've asked myself the same question after some time and sent an email to the store to actually replace the reel with a HG instead. I'm used to big gear ratio reels because I'm mostly fishing in rapid mountain streams. But this one is going to be used in slow water too. So I don't really need the XG.
Also, I'm not sure why XG is cheaper than the HG one. 1000JPY less on digitaka.

Micro module was mainly on the smaller gears that drive the oscillation units. I think the main gear and pinion have remained close to the same size through pre-micro module gears and after. The Stradic FL has micro module gears as a feature, but the main gear and pinion are about the same size as the previous Ci4+FB (or Stradic FK). Again I think the micro module feature for spinning reels mainly applies to the worm oscillation gears (which are normally plastic in cheaper models).

Victor: SHIMANO Sahara 2022 - I am learning so much from you on so may different things about fishing I NEVER knew (Reels, Poles, Fishing line, presentation of lures etc. You have given me a WHOLE new outlook on fishing and I now have the fever. I am trying to have a balance of low to medium pieces of gear. I took your advice on the Shimano Sahara and Daiwa Ligulas. Today I did received my Shimano Sahara C2000s from overseas after (4) days through Digitaka. I was so worried about buying from them, since I never have gone that route. I am extremely glad to report it arrived in perfect condition in the original Shimano box. I checked it backwards and forwards to ensure I wasn't getting some knock off, but the real product. I did and it cost me $63.74 U.S. dollars. I had to learn through buying my reels that my size reel is not a 1000, nor 2000 size reel, but 2500. I'm sure you have pointed that out somewhere, but I missed it.
Thank you for your fishing advice to all of us who follow you. I will continue to follow your lead as I go through my progression as a new re-found fisherman. My wife who is from Prishtina Kosovo also follows you and listens to your advice. She now fishes with me and has her own rod & reel (She got the Daiwa Ligulas). Thanks!

if anything, this reel is more durable than the last. If you see an image of the teeth, they are twice as big, which increased the weight of the gears. They had to compensate for that by reducing the weight of the spool and handle and some other places. But gears, while they may not feel as nice as the old model, are LEGITIMATELY more durable

    As usual well done Victor.
I did not expect a lot of improvement in terms of start up Inertia, resistance, and smoothness. Only because the 19 was already really good and improvements become exceedingly more difficult to come by.
Considering they were able to improve durability due to infinity cross and still maintain the feel of the 19, I would call that a win.
There is one silly thing that I would like to see you include in your reviews.
    Spool capacities.
I fish a lot of super clear water. So in my case I use straight flourocarbon. The lines that I prefer come in 80 and 100 meter spools. I do not like running leaders or backing. So thats actually one of the first things I look at when determining if the reel will work for me!

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  10 місяців тому +1

I don't think Vanquish is a good value in sizes over 2000. All of the advantages of low inertia and low resistance are washed out because the handle and rotor are so big that they overcome any internal resistance very easy. Additionally the lures you people cast are so heavy that again there is no need for vanquish there. Certate LT in 2500 size or Twinpower in 2500 size is what i recommend. You don't need 3000 size for bass and striper, only for saltwater. If you don't want metal frame, i recommend 2500 size Vanford.

Parallel winding will always result in "cut-in", which I often encounter on baitcasting reels after playing big fish or hauling up big debris. That's why I don't use thin line on these reels. But in size 1000 the line is very thin, 0.2-0.3 PE.

thats not really a problem for spinning reels though, only baitcasters get birds nest. I can confirm after a big fish the line does cut in, so the next cast hangs a little, but thats alright. The cast after that is beautiful again!

The c2000s handle is 40mm and the inertia is still very good. just not as free as the 19'model. The c2000s weigh's only 5.1oz. and matches perfectly with all my UL rods. I went for the c2000s for various reasons. The line capacity on the c2000s is 115 yards of 3Lb. test vs. 66yards of 2Lb. test on the 1000, the c2000s brings in 27.2" line per turn vs. only 22.8 on the 1000 (Too slow for me) and because of the larger diameter spool and increased line capacity on the c2000s will out cast the 1000. I would definitely stay away from the c2500 for UL fishing. It's too large and doesn't fit on most UL rods. It's your choice. Victor loves the 1000 and he's the expert but I prefer the c2000s.

@@philipfalco7304because im using a zerogra iv double handle which is 65mm. i cannot decide between a c2000s vanquish or 1000ssspg vanquish.
since i have a 22 stella 1000sspg currently, my train of thoughts is to get a yumeya spare spool which has a line cap of c2000s if i were to get 23 vanquish 1000ssspg. i mainly use 0.2-0.3 ester lines so both c2000s and 1000ssspg works for me. its just that gear ratio and rotor size of c2500s on the c2000s might affect the inertia when i use the double handle on it. any advice?

@@joze292 That's a tough question!, I use the c2000s with 4LB. mono with 4LB floro leader for Trout, Panfish and sm.Bass. I've never used less than 4LB. mono or 5LB. braid. I also have the 18 Stella 1000 (US version with deeper spool) and use 5Lb. braid to 4LB. floro leader. I've never used the double paddle handle so I can't help you much there but I do know the c2500shg is a larger reel with more line capacity and not really considered an UL reel. I use that for Bass but the c2500 spool is deeper and fits on my 19' c2000s and c2000shg if I want to use 5,6 or 8Lb. mono with floro leader. The only 1000 size reels I own are the 18 Stella (US) version, the 19 Stradic 1000 (U.S. version) and the 17 Tatula Lt 1000. They are all deep spools. The only way I would consider the 23' Vanquish 1000ssspg is if you're using 2-3 LB. line and have a JDM UL rod with small guides and light enough to balance it out. Good luck!

Hi Victor. I have a question. When not in use, is it better to keep the reels with the handle on or off? I usually remove the handle when storing my reel. But now I'm afraid it might lead to damaging the "smootheness" with the frequent taking it off and screwing back on when storing.

no sir, the handle thread has nothing to do with the gears. It is separate. Even if u completely mangled it the gears would feel the same. I would put some grease on the thread in your case though, so it comes off easy, if u do it that often. Not to preserve the gears, but to preserve the handle thread itself

Sorry, i have to disagree. Done that already to my Vanford reels and had to open them and remove the all ceramic bearings from some places because they create rough feel and noise. On some low-velocity places they are acceptable, but u can't put them to support the pinion or main gear, it really f#kks up the entire feel of the reel, its unbearable. At least the races must be metal. Anyway... i have some serious research on this that i don't want to share yet because one day i may use it for something, but let me just say all ceramic bearings have super low resistance but feel like sh1t and u have to be very selective where u put them

To each is own, I suppose. I have the 19 Vanquish and was waiting for the 23 model this spring. But It got delayed and it's ugly so I decided to get the Airty, in 2500 size....best reel I own.
The better linelay, lower startup and inertia should give the Vanquish an advantage, but on the water, all my shimanos feel like unrefined garbage when comparing to Airty (never tired Stella or Exist). I'm no Daiwa fanboy. As a matter of fact I got more Shimanos than Daiwas, but the new Airty is just such a joy to fish with plus it looks stunning. I can definitely say that the resistance is less now than new (the tractor grease got pushed around :). Maybe the 2500 size with longer makes it better. Just my 2 cents.

The 2500 got a large handle and rotor and overcome the resistance. Its still there but not so intrusive. The 2500 size rankings would be different as even weight is not a factor there. I dont test many 2500 size reels and my reviews are strictly about the ultralight models, 1000 and 2000

Shimano will always have the best 'perceived smoothness' when reeling off the water inside a room. But Daiwa just has better gearing and teeth contact, especially in larger sizes than shimano, and will be smoother under load. That's the reason why you feel the airity 2500 is better than the vanquish. The Monocoque body may also contribute to the solid feeling of the Daiwa.

If u open the reel u will be shocked how small the gears are. People always buy reels to fight the fish, but the fish fight is nonsense, it ends in 10 seconds, and the drag does not allow much stress on the reel.
