This video was extremely helpful and perfectly explains the issue I’ve had during my two year search for neutral mid brown low variation low knot floors! They don’t exist! I’ve purchased more boxes than I care to admit and the issue is always the same - too yellow, too pink, too grey, too many knots, too much variation, and completely different looks depending on the room 😅

This is so helpful to understanding the frustrations I had searching for the right floor for my home, What looked griege in the showroom turned into greyish yellow when I took it to my home, esp on an overcast afternoon. It also looked vastly different from the photos on the website.

@@stephanierae2512not if you first make sure of the return policy from whichever store your shopping from. Buy a box, lay it out, and return it if it doesn’t work for you.
The only hitch is not tearing the box up when you’re unpacking the product.

Can you explain the trends you think are current that will not get outdated quickly? Especially in lighter wood or LVP floors

Great question Diane. Currently the wide plank (7"-9") European Oak visuals in a light to medium tone are our most popular sellers. As far as color, neutral earthy tones with a hint of grey is what is trending. We are also seeing a trend of people wanting more select grade visuals, meaning very few knots and consistent in color. It is hard to say how long this trend will last. It has been popular for the past 3 years and I don't believe it will be going away anytime soon.
My biggest advise to people is to stay away from anything that is unique. Grey flooring is definitely a trend that came and went quickly. If you still think that grey is the "new thing", you are behind. Ultimately I would not recommend following trends since I have seen trends come and go pretty quickly. I think it is more important to pick a floor that you will love for many years. This means something that expresses your style and the style of your home. Something that compliments your furniture and cabinetry. If you follow trends you will have to replace your flooring every 5-10 years, which isn't practical for most.

@@CoronaHardwood thank you so much for taking your time to answer. I’m considering Coretec Cyril which I think is in line with most of what you said. I love the un-knotty and consistent floors so I guess I’m lucky. Thanks again. I really appreciate your explanation.

I would avoid grey. Overdue to fall from fashion.

I am sorry but the floors look like total shit.
I want a light color floor but I don't want a busy mix of dark streaks included which all the floors have with their stupid obsession to make it look like wood instead of making it look good.
When you have a mix of light and dark streaks, it makes it look like there is dirt on the floor which makes it look like shit.
So as a result, I am having a super hard time finding a floor.

Thanks for the comment. The "shit" spots you are describing is character in the flooring. Most floors on the market are going to be character grade (A-D), meaning they will have knots and cracks that have been filled with a black resin. I've asked manufacturers why they don't fill the knots and cracks with the same color. The reason they use black fills is because the light fills would yellow and change color over time. With that said there are a few manufacturers that offer fills that match the flooring stain, giving it the look of a select grade floor.
When I was selecting floors for my home a year ago my wife also did not like these black streaks. The solution was to go with a select grade floor. Typically you will pay a little bit more, but you only get Grade A & B lumber. This will give you the look you are trying to achieve. Give us a call and we can guide you to some options that are a select grade.

      Thank you.
I am looking for vinyl plank rather than hardwood.
I may be forced to either buy twice as many pieces as i need and throw out the darker shades or put the darker shsdes around the perimeter of the room but i will not stand for a random mix of dark and light shades. It hurts my eyes just looking at it like someone who has just done a patching job and could not find the right pieces.
If you were here in the bay area of california i would come and take a look and see if you could find something for me but I think you are probably far away.

@@HouseGuide We do work with people outside of our local area all the time. If you are interested in seeing some options that are consistent in color and do not have a lot of contrast/variation reach out to us and we can send you photos and samples if needed. We do ship to northern California all the time.

Well, after a long, angry and exhaustive search, I think I may have found something by the Protech company that is light maple and uniform in color. I wish I could see it up close because it looks a little busy but my priority is color uniformity. The description states:
This floor, the Natural Oak, represents the Clear Grade, which is the highest quality in the prefinished marketplace and is exceptionally uniform in both color consistency and clarity and as such variations caused by staining, checking and mineral streaks, pin knots and character marks are not found in this grade. The medium embossed surface, with the fusion of shades and tones, looks and feels like real Clear Grade hardwood oak and is easy to maintain. It has the lucid beauty of natural wood, but without the potential problems of wood floor’s cracking or warping.
I hope you can order this item for your store so you can give those people who don't want their floors to look like they were put together by random boards picked up from the street something more classy.
