    Aside from the obvious stuff, what saddens me the most is that the country had almost infinite money to build amazing sustainable, livable and walkable cities and they are blowing it all on vanity projects and endlessly wide highways that are never going to be enough. There was so much opportunity to learn from other's mistakes and get it right.

      If you were talking about ANY other place on the planet, I see your point. The reality is you are talking about a population in which the poorest native, non-immigrant probably makes $500k a year if they live in the current cities. The approach is always going to be "...spend it and make it opulent because what else are we going to spend it on?".

    • @PenskePC17
      @PenskePC17 22 дні тому

      @@sknkwrksowner 500k a year 😂. Try 36k. The view of wealth in the middle east is incredibly overblown. An example being that many people believe Dubai to be the richest city on earth, when in reality they don't even have half the billionaires of Boston. Middle easterners just showcase their wealth in a way that most western elite would find tacky.

      Here in Australia, all the money is publicly scrutinised and has to be provided largely by the tax payer. No money can be pushed under the table to bribe FIFA officials.
      Honestly, and I'm saying this from a purely organisational standpoint, we could pull off a killer World Cup. We've got the big stadiums that already can be converted for soccer matches - the infastructure around it is all there. We had the Women's World Cup last year and it was a smash, even non-soccer fans turned up in droves! We loved it!
      The only thing you'd need to do is maybe expand a few stadiums in the regional cities like Canberra - which we've been wanting to do anyway for our domestic sports. I look at all this and just shake my head.

Providing all of those things will create millions of real jobs in addition to lifting the country out of hovel status.
