Julianne Moore is so utterly perfect for her role. With her appearance she embodies the perfect housewife, delicate, beautiful, smiling, but her acting makes the dissonance that makes the character of Laura Brown so outstanding, the flawless exterior through which the troubled inner world shines in the right moments, with perfect timing you see her facade fall and get up in a matter of seconds. She was brilliant.

Her facial expressions tell a deeper story and her son can see that but he’s too little to express it... she’s a magnificent actress.

It's more than a little astonishing that there are as yet no comments on this, so I'll add this one. We've never seen another film as positively fine as this one, and the casting is simply miraculous. All three of these women -- Laura Brown, Clarissa Vaughn, and Virginia Woolf -- are tested to their absolute limits. Two of them survive that test, one of them does not. Richard Brown and Leonard Woolf are, in their own ways, equally tested. One of them survives, the other does not. This film tries to help us understand why some people elect to go on living while others do not, and it also insists (with the Virginia Woolf character) on everyone's absolute right to make that decision for themselves. Meryl Streep was right to insist that, in the whole history of film, there's nothing else like this masterpiece of film-making.

Thomas Thompson I agree so much with you. This is one of the best movies of all time, probably a little unknown. Great acting, marvelous scripting, beautiful photography and wonderful score.

I agree 100% with you. This is my absolute No1 movie of all time dealing with a matter so universal in an astonishingly simple yet complex way, how people perceive happiness and choose to live accordingly. What is so different in these 3 women in these 3 different timelines is exactly the same thing that unites them. The essence of not being the protagonists on their own act, of something missing, of not having the control of their lives, of utterly being miserable no matter how much settled their lives seem to be. It is a pure masterpiece unlike any other ever made about life itself and yet it never got the recognition it deserved. So underrated!!!

This film for me is about facing the reality of your situation instead of trying to bear through it each day, each hour, just accepting it and yet feeling dead inside. Really powerful. As Laura Brown says in the film “it was death, I chose life” . Amazing film and performances.

It sadly doesn't take too much thinking to realise why there are so few posts on this comment section.
A film with a dialogue rich, complex interlocking plot, whose protagonists are predominantly female.
Now if this video were a John Wick trailer there would be hundreds.
A depressing indication of the average YT viewer.

Meryl looks more like the real Virginia Woolf than Nicole did.
