Put a real snowmobile secondary clutch on it and the right belt. The secondary is too small in diameter compared to a stock snowmobile one so that's killing your gearing and your belt.
It's a snowmobile engine but they're using the go-kart torque converter I believe. The snowmobile torque converter is much bigger and sturdier. You could be right but I assume go-karts go through mud and water pretty regularly.
I agree with Ryan Mallory except I would put a stiffer spring in the clutch so the rpm’s are slightly higher when the clutch engages. It should help get rid of that low end engine bog. Oh and definitely a new belt would do wonders too. And before you do all that gear changing you could reclock the secondary. So put the spring end into the next hole. That will give you more low and mid range power too.
I’d definitely get a tach on that if you’re gonna do more tuning that engine should turn around 7,000 RPM. The clutch is coming in way to low like Ike said and I’d definitely gear it down. To get more out of that motor I’d put dual 34 or 32mm Mikuni carbs on it.
Single carb is much easier to deal with and you don't need to sync with a second. They need to effectively double their gear ration to 10:1 or even 12:1 to be geared properly.
This project is too cool. Love the fact that its a 2 stroke. Really makes this thing even cooler! Can’t wait for the next video on this. Thank you guys for bringing imagination back to UA-cam. You guys really make these projects your own. And with the new 3 man 3 motor mini bike build you guys are breaking new ground.

Back in the day ('70's, lol) rather than changing the driver dogs, we would stiffen (or lighten for quicker top ends) the driven pully's spring. That way we would keep more pressure on the belt & give a bit more low end grunt. Have fun! Definitely love to see 2 strokes providing grins, like the old days! LOL! Greetings from Bama y'all. Stumbled across this channel several years ago when my son and I happened across a couple of carts. Your 1st couple of episodes with the Killowat convinced me that it was the cart for me. We now have two of them going together a bit at a time. Can't even say how excited I am to see y'all revisiting this one.
As a Canadian, for future and much loved by the way snow episodes, stud all 4 tires fellas! You'll be shocked with the difference. Thanks as always boys! Oh and by the way, sleds always have an extra belt stored. Certainly a weak point.
Suggestion: When you're rebuilding the suspension on that rig, make it wider for stability! (I'm sure forty dozen other people have said the same thing, of course)

Good machine! The clutch you can take apart and drylube, and pre-tense it correctly. I think it would be better to set the rear dampers almost vertical in the chassis, not flat as it is now. Looking forward to next video.
Would be awsome to see some A Arm suspension built for this. Work out the kings with gearing / wider wheels and tires / belts / carb upgrade . Would be a little rocket contender for mini crosscart !
Some tips on the Kawasaki 440 and belt drive. You can get a higher "Stall" speed on the clutch by very slightly loosening the belt. If you get it too loose, you'll get a very hard grab when it does catch. I'd also like to note that you are running an exposed belt in the snow. Wet belts slip. That will be made worse by gearing issues. The KZ 440 is one hell of an engine that can be tuned for much more than the stock 43 horsepower (We were able to get almost 60Hp from this engine in a Malibu Grand Prix "Virage" race car).
Not a KZ engine sir. Came out of a 70s Arctic Cat snowmobile. Most likey a Puma or EXT. totally different engine than what Kawasaki used in their bikes.
@@matthewbeito1431, My mistake on the nomenclature of the engine. My experience with them was as the powerplant in a Malibu Grand Prix "Virage" race car. Malibu Grand Prix used to be an arcade and go-kart amusement center at many locations across the US. They're mostly gone now, but the Virage race car was a 7/10 scale formula one car with a top speed in the area of 50-70mph -off- the track. I've spent a fair amount of time wrenching on them and tuning them when I was a mechanic at our local track, before it shut down. Just a thought: You guys are getting fast enough on this course to take downforce into consideration... you'll need large wing at these low speeds, but it would be extremely effective and not be too draggy, again because of the low speeds. You'd definitely pick up more traction than you would lose top end. Try adding some downforce to some of the projects to see if you can get better times.
@@michiganvapemafia595 Nah dude, surface area will make up for it easily. You don't need to be going anywhere near 100 mph to get good downforce. Try holding onto a piece of drywall in the bed of a pickup that's doing even 30. A bit of cheap sheet metal and some quick calculations (there's a formula) and they could keep the throttle buried for most of the course. Especially on the lighter projects that don't have too much inertia. Actually, there's a good project for them... build something ultralight with as much downforce as possible. I don't know if any of them can weld alu, but it's never too late to learn.
You are all on drugs. You don't run down force on an of road vehicle. You arent off roading in a Sprint car(or micro sprint). Oh wait! what about all those side by sides running around with giant wings on them? All the Baja trucks with giant wings on them? Oh right they don't exist.
@@jasonbirch1182 You don't run downforce on cars designed to jump. If you aren't jumping, downforce is a legitimate way to increase traction. The same rules apply... no amount of crying will change this fact. It's also a perfect project for this channel.
Snowmobiles have a drive unit that has 2 different size sprockets that reduces the ratio. Going straight to a pulley is about 25-30 percent too tall. Get the ratio right and it will easily do 70 and still have great low range
That 440 has the potential to rip hard 👍 I have a home made 540 sled powered buggy that hits speeds of 80 MPH and still has good bottom end. Keep playing with it you will get it there!
With a snowmobile engine setup, you want around 10-12:1 gearing to get the most out of it, including longer belt life. It was setup to move a snowmobile with somewhere around 2:1 gearing.
This thing is a couple of steps away from rocking your leaderboard; convert the machine to have a wider track width so it doesn’t wanna roll over as easy
I think your right like Pontiac Grand Prix wider is better. Grind hard plumbing co. Did it on colonel senders they said it turned Easier and felt way better. They widened it three inches.
Just so you know older snow mobiles from the 90 and later all are set up with a high clutch engagement around 2 thousand 200 rpm. A lot of the slipping is from not having a cover to keep your belt dry they don’t like water.or ice so looks like you need a new belt. Recommend getting scotch bright pad to lightly polish your pulleys the belt rides on. Can’t wait to see what this project can really do once the bugs are resolved
I've got a Kilowatt the same color and everything except mine has a Vegas Carts 460 block with billet everything internal and external. 780 drive and driven on the factory motor/jackshaft plate (the only thing I had to do is move the plate to the right about 3 inches and then replaced the factory jackshaft with a new hardened steel one that ended up being about 3 inches longer. The best upgrade imo is the front and rear hydraulic disc brakes!
You could use wider a arms and axle it will handle the extra power it has now, a wider wheelbase is needed to stop any rollover accidents, kee up the great work. Ps get it ported, the bhp will be crazy.
maybe y'all should hook up with rather be welding for one of his 2 speed jackshafts, have a current gearing setup for high end speed, then add a reduction for everything else, so you've got trails, then you have a sand gear for busco beach, glad to see this running again, and i know y'all will turn it into a real ripper, you guys have really stepped up your game and came a long way from the early days of "tinkering in the garage", stay safe out there
i want to see this engine in a capable chassis with a wider wheel base to improve the handling. It needs to have wider tires and a good shot at a dry track and i think this is a top 5 contender on the leaderboard. You could try and widen the wheel base with larger shocks and longer arms but that would not be good for the front because of the angle of the wheels. You would want a more complicated set up for the front and probably better shocks in the rear.
I have a suggestion for you guys pertaining to the snowmobile I think that you should add a body kit to it to protect and keep the wind off you for the winter
Your biggest problem with the belt slipping is the belt is wet, soaked would be more appropriate, let the belt dry and watch it fly. If you build some sort of cover or wheel well it would greatly help if not fix your problem. Love the vids and keep up the good work!
If you haven’t yet, those carb jets need to be upsized a lot. Snowmobile air boxes are very restrictive and so when you replace them with free flowing air filter pods, the engines will run super lean. Check your plugs, if they are tan you’re perfect on jet size/tune/fuel mix. If they’re white it’s too lean, black it’s too rich.

FIY engine and jack shaft centre distance is critical on a snowmobile clutch for low gear! And proper high gear! Clutches need to be clean and free of dust and belt debris, both the primary and secondary clutches. It’s called a clutch service. In the snowmobile world. Pre season service. The more wear on the belt you loose low and high “gear”. P.S. that thing should Rooster-tail the tires with a 440
It would probably help to put a cover around the drive and driven to keep water and sand off. That will cause it to slip as well.

These belts do not like water, it needs a cover to protect it from water or snow…. Good job guys, can’t wait to see the upgrades

They're using a garbage CVT. First step should be a good one with good belt.

Front camber looks pretty wild. Could be more than just the snow affecting the handling.

Front tires look like they have a severe camber issue.put some bigger tires on the front fix the camber and belt issues and let it rip. Cool project.

They aren't going to be reaching the speeds they would need for downforce to matter. Downforce is really only going to help if you're going 100+

Put some netting on the sides, last thing you want to do is break an arm or leg attempting to stop a rollover!

If you add some width to that unit it will feel way safer to ride when it is greasy. I would say 15 to 20 inches wider 🤟🏻🇺🇸

FIY engine and jack shaft centre distance is critical on a snowmobile clutch for low gear! And proper high gear! Clutches need to be clean and free of dust and belt debris, both the primary and secondary clutches. It’s called a clutch service. In the snowmobile world. Pre season service.
The more wear on the belt you loose low and high “gear”.
