Not so happy about adding another year but still it’s a special day for me!
Today I’m sharing this beautiful song from the game Xenogears, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and originally sung by Joanne Hogg.
I tried recording this so many times!!
Sometime, I would like to sing it in Japanese too!
About the title of the song (contains spoilers!):
To make some sense of the title "Small Two of Pieces", the pieces seem to refer to humanity or humans, which are like shattered fragments of a broken mirror. I like to think the “small two” refer to two important characters in the Xenogears game, namely Fei and Elly, whose love for each other transcends time as they find and grow close to each other again and again in each life.
The Japanese version’s title is “Mebius”, which then makes more sense to me as it would refer to traveling an everlasting continuous loop.
I could be wrong though, but I like to think I’m right, ha ( ˘ ɜ˘) ♬♪♫

A fairy tale for adults? You know.......that is very on point. No wonder it hits all my hopeless romantic boxes.
I used to scoff at people who said rpgs were for the story, because none h ad a story as good as your average good book, until xenogears, and IMO, Xenosaga (not as good individually, but about as good as a whole imo, particularly since it got abbreviated into half). BUT, my love from the series spawned from 'trails in the sky', is even greater than xenogears. I implore you to try it when you h ave the patience to attempt a new long-term-story game, don't get bored that you don't rescue a princess, slay dragons, and take on the military in 5 hours like so many other jrpgs, it makes the protagonist grow at a believable (slow) pace, which is crucial to how it's good.

All reality extends from one point, the Wave Existence spilling into our dimension and creating everything. And the story of Cain and Elly. Their struggles through innumerable reincarnation cycles until Fei and Elly free themselves, the world, and the Wave Existence from an unending cycle. Both of these are fantastic interpretations of the lyrics.
Yep. The 2 angels in the church at Nisan both only had 1 wing-- together they could fly but apart they fall. The entire game's theme is about Small of Two Pieces, Fei and Elly finding each other throughout generation after generation.
My heart aches, this is the best cover of this song of all time. Would love to hear a full version of Mebius as well.

its a game that definitely left a huge impact on the whole game community and industry! it is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Wow now I feel bad for forgetting this year is it's 20th anniversary. And even worst that there's no way I'm going to able to attend the special 20th anniversary concert in Japan in 2 weeks by the man himself-Yasunori Mitsuda. Sigh* Time to drown my sorrow away by listening to your beautiful music(I don't drink). Haha!

Simply the best JRPG ever made, listening to this just takes me back… and It makes me tear like a small kid, your voice is just perfect it has this sweet caring sound like the ones your dream on a lullaby, it’s almost way too natural almost as if you were not singing but talking and this wonderful sound comes out to soothe you.

Many people consider Chrono Trigger the most memorable work of Mitsuda-san, I love all of his music of course, but for me his masterwork has to be Xenogears, it has a lot of depth and soul.

I really like your interpretation of all these video game songs. I know i am years late finding you channel. Personally for me games have been a huge part of my life starting from commodore 64 and continuing to NES & SNES (and of course to modern day gaming platforms). The best game soundtracks often comes from Japan.
