A beautifully crafted novel offering the most detailed insight into the corruption of the times and women's struggles. The final chapters are so tense. Maggie seems lovely, too.
I love Maggie OFarrell’s writing and so enjoyed The Marriage Portrait. There were no protections of women at this time and she was at the mercy of her husband. Fortunately she found a way out.
LOVED the book and love writers giving voices to less-heard perspectives, real and fictional, past and present.

These books should be women’s books by rights, yet they enthral me.
