I just discovered Nik Bartsch recently, and while some of his music is compelling, and atmospherically beautiful - I find it quite derivative. Herbie Hancock (Crossings) was exploring this territory with far more intelligence, rhythmic subtlety, and SOUL! - and that was 1971! There is a lot of "borrowing" from the process music of Steve Reich, Terry Riley, and earlier composers such as Colin McPhee, and Lou Harrison, as well. I'm also hearing strains of Prog-Jazz/Rock ala Soft Machine, Gong, King Crimson, John Zorn, and even Eberhard Weber's Colours. I mean - this shit is good, but it's not new! Harmonically - it's incredibly static, and ultimately sounds like an acoustic Tangerine Dream. What can you expect with 2 generations that have been weened on DJ Culture, Music Downloads, an excess of digital information, and education that no longer stresses hard-earned aesthetic values, but... these guys are tight! I'll grant them that!
What's the imperative for novelty all the time?
psico-malambo
Müziğin ne kadar matematiksel bir yanının olduğunu da göstermişler...
disjointed, uninspired noise.
