Went off without a single hitch first try. This is the best video, by far, of any that I watched before doing it myself. It's probably worth watching a few of the short 6-10 minute videos others have produced, but this one really nails the details. You'll be surprised how much the others leave out!
This is one of the best videos out there for performing this task. You are meticulous and thorough, I hardly even had to pause and moved right along with you. My time ended up being about 1 1/2 hours to complete but only because I try to keep everything clean as I go. Thanks again for your time and expertise. Look forward to having to use more of your videos.
wow! watched 3 of these videos before this one, this is the only one to mention testing the screen before gluing it all down. the only one to mention keeping the digitizer cable positioned correctly, and the only one to mention "sealing" it by using heat and weight.
Yeah, I like that he is actually going through the whole process and not pausing the video and voilà the digitizer is out. You actually see that you may break the glass while taking it out, one might get discouraged to continue with the repair if not seeing it happen in this video.
Thanks a lot for this video. I would not have bought my digitizer replacement kit if I hadn't found this video. It's long because it walks you through all the steps in detail. I watched it twice to make sure I understand the "risk" before starting the operation :) One thing I would like to emphasize to the viewers is that you want to be ABSOLUTELY sure that there are no particles on the inside of the digitizer or on the LCD screen before you go ahead and paste the digitizer in place because there is no coming back from this step. I actually have to tiny particles stuck inside and it irritates me to no end. This step is worth being finicky about.
I wanted to thank you for this walk-through. I followed along as I replaced my son's cracked iPad screen. It was perfect. It made a daunting task much easier. Thanks Again!
Thanks, very informative but I think your a little rough with the glass, I found if you take a little more time with the heat gun, pry the glass off slower and with less pressure (always under the heat) it comes off a bit easier, but other than that, I think you did a perfect job.
Thanks for this video. Very detail and clear tutoroal. I have a question , in the video at minute 10.00 , once the digitizer screen removed, can we cut off the broken digitizer's flexible cable IC ? Or there are any reasons why we must wait until we put off the flexible cable from the IC socket . Please advice. Thank you
Liked your video.I have a blank screen created by moisture, not directly dropped in water. It gradually spread and finally went dark. I can hear a beep when connecting the power cable, but no other sights or sounds. Screen looks good. I slightly opened and tried to dry it out with some hair blower heat. I have new screen and digitizer but am beginning to feel the problem is probably the lcd. I can and have backed it up on my mac. Questions: 1. Does it sound like the lcd? 2. Will I also need to replace the screen? 3. How can I tell if it is powered on or off before I start?
thanks for the tutorial. this saved me from wasting more money and time, If I had ordered from the kit that you guys sell online I wouldn't have gotten ripped off at a mall kiosk. I am a very satisfied customer and I would definitely recommend other people purchasing from your online store.
Hi, I like how clear your videos and explanations are. I have a question. On my iPad mini 2, the digitizer is cracked and I can't swipe to enter my password and confirm if everything else work. the LCD screen looks intact, and as far as I can see it works but I can't make all the tests you did at the beginning of the video. Do I buy the digitizer only or should I buy the lcd as well? Thanks.
Very helpful walkthrough. Filled in the important details the iFixit guide left out. I used an artists paint spatula to run around the edges of the iPad. They are like plastering trowels, but very small and with a very thin blade. Thinner than a guitar pick and perfect for sliding along the glue line. I now have a functioning iPad mini 2. Thanks!
Apparently you forgot you mention that you HAVE TO disconnect the power first (25:14). You do it first but don't mention that it is critical for the repair. You also don't stress that you also need to connect the battery LAST (35:49), again critical to the repair since not doing so will short your circuit board and cause an LCD back light fuse repair.
This is awesome. One of the best videos on this I have found. I have two comments: 1. You can use a flat putty knife to remove the LCD easily. No need for dental floss. 2. YOU MUST DISCONNECT THE POWER CABLE as soon as you get the aluminum plate up! MANY people miss this (I did). It's the most common mistake. This video should have a flashing red arrow emphasizing this move. You WILL blow your backlight fuse as so many people have done if you don't pull the battery pad off before proceeding. Remember to reconnect the battery last thing before putting the aluminum plate back on.
Great video which helped me complete a successful repair in about 2.5 hours. There are a couple of minor things which would have made it even easier, I I didn’t realise that the replacement glass already had glue applied, may be worth mentioning as I thought I was trying to get the old glass off leaving glue in place. I also found the small square of plastic which covers the camera in glue and I thought I had damaged the camera and needed to put it back on the camera. I then spotted the new glass had the new cover already in place on the back of the glass so I could just discard the old one. I did have trouble peeling back the tape at the end of the screen, and was worried I had scraped and exposed some electronics. I think it might be better to leave tape until the screen is fully unscrewed and you are starting to lift the screen up.
This video is great. Is this the same process for the iPad mini retina? And will a digitizer replacement kit be available on your site for it the mini retina? I only need a digitizer repair.
Hello! Thanks to your iPhone 5s video I now have a functional phone again. I will follow this video for my iPad mini too so please respond so I know what to order from you guys! Q; due to the damaged digitizer and LCD (some discolouration in a corner) my home button and power button are not responding at all. I can only start the screen by holding the power button down till it wants to slide to turn off. Is this a consequence of the broken digitizer and LCD or did something else break during the 1.5m fall? There's no response at all from either buttons or screen at touch. Volume and vibrate button work.
This video is plain awesome - the detail -- like heat until too hot to touch is spot on. Thank You for this. I learn as I go but without this I would have damaged components
I have two questions: when you took out your new digitizer I noticed it had no home button on it, yet once you actually applied the new digitizer it had the home button on! Did you just put the home button bracket from the old digitizer into the new one? Also, will this video apply to the iPad Mini 2 (Retina)?
Best video on screen replacement. I have changed the screen on my iPad mini but the touch on the screen doesn’t work. I took it off and tried to reconnect few times still no luck. I made sure that all the tabs are seated. Is there anything I can do to fix this.
I replaced my Ipad Mini 3 Screen with the same tutorial, different screen. It worked out fine, but getting the lcd out was a hassle. Anyway, it worked, but my only problem is the 3rd party home button that came with the screen. The button feels weird and no touch ID. But either than that, great tutorial.
Question, what manufacture you would suggest to get after market screen for iPad mini 3? I also though about buying a water damage iPad mini 3 for $15 just for the screen but I don’t know if I can use a water damage iPad parts . What would you suggest?
Hi I follow your steps Great video by the way but my lcd screen has developed lines across the botton 5 to 7 mm above the home button and a few lines on the right hand side every thing else works fine. Can you give me any help to fix this or has the lcd had it. I was very careful when removing the glass so can't under stand whats happened.
You may want to add a warning when pulling the dental floss under the LCD screen there is a chance if you do not get it low enough that it can slide in the small gap between the LCD screen and the metal backer held in place with tape. It did happen to us while replacing our screen. When the floss got really hard to move I suspected an issue and we slowly and carefully pried the screen up and saw the dental floss had started to separate the two pieces. We were able to push it back down and it is functioning.
Well done! I found these really useful: - using the dental floss to break the lcd free - removing the adhesive backing just before assembly, but not near the cable - bending the digitizer cable inwards just before assembly - the detailed look at the magnets Thank you for a very nicely done video, your experience saved me from making some very basic mistakes.
Incredibly thorough! Best one here. Put off installing today because other videos were not as detailed. Will install tomorrow using these instructions. Hoping for the best. Thank you!
So wait I'm confused, should scratch the LCD screen or nah? Lol, I think you said not to scratch it about 15 times haha. Either way, thanks for the tutorial, I just did my first swap out. My only problem was not getting enough of the old adhesive out and now my screen won't stay shut. Any suggestions? My kit didn't come with an alcohol swab and I just tried scraping the old adhesive out the best I could. Sports they it wasn't good enough :(
i was using different kit which provided no gloves. I got finger prints on the LCD. can i use electronic screen wipes to clean it or will that damage it, if so, how do i clean it?
Yanachugo below mentioned taking off the yellow tape on the new digitizer, does that need to be done? Just went through the whole process, the home button works but can't swipe the screen. Any suggestions?
Before you take out the LCD digitizer, when you heating your edge surface of iPad. What temperature with heating gun ??! How hot should it be? what degree?
Hello, We changed the digitizer as you showed but the iPad is automaticly locking screen when its moved in hands sometimes. Can it be the power button? Thank you
So I went through this and a few other videos, made the digitizer replacement repair and holy crap! everything still works perfectly! Except for my official Apple Smart Cover doesn't put the iPad Mini to sleep anymore. Can anyone tell me where I might have gone wrong?
Followed this vid, took me 3 hours. At the testing phase after all was said and done, it worked! So I closed and sealed it up. screen is effed up! I know it's not this vid fault, but I seem to have a sort of dead spot on the right side & the buttons will click on their own now, randomly. Re-opening is not a possiblilty. Hoping I can get some trade in value towards a new ipad for my daughter. lol.
Terrific video. I've replaced iPad two screens before but your tip about heating the finished repair so the adhesive grabs is a great idea Well done Sir.
thank you thank you thank you! i found your video after i bought a different product but your instruction was amazing and so clear. i watched a few other videos and even though 50 mins seemed long when i had to prewatch, you covered all the little things. this was my first ever screen replacement and i couldn't have done it without my prayers and you! thanks!
Excellent video. Wish I had watched this one before instead the other one that are short and not detailed at all! I followed the other videos and my ipad is not working. Now i found this video and hope to fix it correctly! Thanks
I just repaired a free (cracked and unwanted) iPad mini - but started taking it apart before watching this video and damaged the WIFI antenna. Had order a new one from Amazon (under five bucks) and wait a week before continuing. Tip: (besides being more careful than me on the bottom edge where the antenna is) I heated the whole iPad in a toaster oven to loosen the glue by heating he oven to about 350 deg F then turning it off and putting the iPad in for about 20 minuets. This made it easy to pry up the broken touch screen. NOTE that I did not heat the iPad to 350 degrees, The oven cooled as the iPad warmed up and I checked on it a few times until the iPad itself was perhaps 120 degrees. This was much easier than the hair dryer method shown in the video. I was able to gently pry open the iPad in a little over a minuet.
Hi, I have a problem and I need help. The magnetic system of the Smart Case does not work after I switch the Touch my Ipad Mini 3G. Perfectly follow the video and magnetic are correctly positioned . The LCD ground , screws and fittings were made perfectly .. What's the matter ??
It is probably a bad home button flex cable, that is what the magnet sensor is attached too. Unfortunately that cable is soldered to the screen so a whole new screen needs to be tried. Were the screen ordered from Amazon or directly from our website?
***** Thanks, bought from a company that provides Apple parts for some time . I never had problems , I'm getting in touch with the vendor to request a replacement . Thank you so very much.
Hi Daniel! I had the same problem with 3 different digitizers. I think that problem is that some digitizers are not as good as the original quality and something is not included that doesnt activate Smart Cover

Well done on a excellent vid! Maybe somebody in the repair community can help me with my issue. After digitizer repair my sleep wake button is unresponsive. However it still functions perfectly to take screenshots and power on/off the device just not to sleep and wake. Any clues to the solution? thx!
How does one replace the home button? The new digitizer i got didn't come with the home button attached, so i gotta use the one from the broken digitizer, but how do you do that??
Buddy you did amazing on your video. Thank you with all my heart. You are amazing. I'm about to do a battery and digitizer on a iPad 3, yes I watched you do that also. And will watch it again. But thought I'd watch others to get me in the right mode. I will suggest you to my whole family.
In this guide , it says to shutdown power before replace operation . But , in my case , How can I shutdown power off if the touchscreen it's not working ?
I forgot to put the magnets in the new screen. Can I still place them in my new screen it if I use tape after reheating it to lift it up and putting them where they need to go?
hola soy de mexico me gusta su canal son muy buenos .tengo una pregunta si al touch no le afecta si no pongo la cinta magnetica que esta alado de flex. saludos.
you sir are getting both a like and a subscribe. i cant tell you how many lcd's i have cracked performing this repair. i knew there had to be a better way to separate the lcd and midframe. Didn't have dental floss but fishing line did the exact same trick thanks a million!
Thank you very much for your video. Had a little trouble with mine as the corner was bent and required some good old elbow grease. The adhesive doesn't quite stick on a little portion on the bottom but I've put 5-6 books on it and a Jenga game to pressure it and I'm gonna leave it for 2 days like that. Hope it sticks well. Cheers, mate. If you come to Romania, pm me and I'll buy you a couple of beers !
Help🙏🙏 My iPad mini2 is broken glass I can see some black glass panel from the broken screen It is inside the broken screen Is it lcd? Do I have to replace the led too Or only the glass I know glass is broken but hope the lcd a not broken because glass protects it
So from top to bottom we have digitizer then lcd screen then the metal frame when do you realize that lcd doesn't work my iPad us cracked the digitizer do I have to replace the lcd too???
I have the issue that the teeth come off the fpc connector on the board about 10% of the time when removing the digitizer. Is there a trick to this? Whats the safest way to remove the digitizer connecter from the board?
hi friend, change the screen of my iPad A-1432, as well as in the video, and when you put the new screen and try everything, the screen went dark, you can barely see the manzanita, I got another screen to test if it was the screen and it looks the same, dark, what can that be and why ??? HELP!!
I just installed an iCracked digitizer in my Ipad Mini 2 but now it only displays vertical lines on the left of the screen when I boot up. I went back and reseated the 3 connectors but still the same thing. Got any suggestions? Thanks.
so i followed the directions except the "very important" disconnecting of the battery. I watched 5 other videos that didn't mention it at all so I thought I was doing it all right. Can anyone suggest what needs to happen if it won't power back up now? Is it possible that a defective replacement screen/IC chip could cause it not to restart? Or did I fry the battery?
Great tutorial. Out of the many I've watched, this is by far the most thorough! Details in this video such as exactly how to transfer over the magnets and paying attention to the black tape holding the lcd screen down set this apart from many others. Thanks!
Theres a plastic piece of black tape going across digitazier covering the home bottom and other parts. On some other video it shows that it had been removerd. Do i leave it on???
I ordered a replacement digitizer for my ipad mini and the flex connector was completely different than the one that came off. Had to return and order another. Why would there be two different connector types for one device?

Help. I replaced my glass digitizer and now there is a black strip (1-2 inchesbwide) going down the screen. When it powers on, only the right half of the apple shows and when the home screen loads there is the black bar going down the middle. I tried reseating the ribbon to the LCD again and still nothing. Maybe I'm not seating it right, but it feels like it snaps in. Or maybe I pressed too hard, or should I press harder on the ribbon cable? Did the LCD go bad? Does it need to be completely sealed before trying or what can I do to troubleshoot? I haven't closed it up yet so it's kind of halfway open. The directions I followed left the battery connected, but I ended up disconnecting the battery (AFTER I disconnected the LCD) so I hope I didnt mess anything up by doing that. Please let me know how to test, and what to check. Thanks
It's likely that the LCD was damaged while taking it out because it's held in with adhesive. So if it flexed too much or anything while they were being pulled out, it can be bad even if all connections are okay. Was the screen/digitizer bought from Amazon or directly from our website?
I checked the LCD and by pressing on certain parts of the ribbon I was able to get the black area to turn rainbowish and then white, but after a while it made the whole screen dim and greyish. So I'm almost assuming something happen with the ribbon cable when taking it out. The directions I saw were not specific as to how exactly to loosen the lcd from the black tape that keeps it down.
Si there any way I can contact you? I was replacing the screen and when I was testing the touch screen the LCD was green with line colors that means y broke the lcd?
i have a ipad mini the first one that came out the screen got cracked i went and fixed it but the tech told me since my had was kind of bent from one side that the screen was'nt going to hold and it would pop up so i watched one of your tutorials went ahead and opened the ipad came to find out the glue isn't sticking that's what's causing the screen to pop off how can i fix this problem ??
Went off without a single hitch first try. This is the best video, by far, of any that I watched before doing it myself. It's probably worth watching a few of the short 6-10 minute videos others have produced, but this one really nails the details. You'll be surprised how much the others leave out!

Can you just cut the digitizer cable since it gets replaced anyway?
That's how i did it. Had no issues and infact it was easier to work on the iPad without the digitizer hanging off it
yes
wow! watched 3 of these videos before this one, this is the only one to mention testing the screen before gluing it all down. the only one to mention keeping the digitizer cable positioned correctly, and the only one to mention "sealing" it by using heat and weight.
this guy is the bomb. I love his videos, used a few for my repairs.
Yeah, I like that he is actually going through the whole process and not pausing the video and voilà the digitizer is out. You actually see that you may break the glass while taking it out, one might get discouraged to continue with the repair if not seeing it happen in this video.
He went into detail about the magnets, i didn't see that in 2 other videos, I appreciate that.
Eres el único que enseña como quitarle la pegatina al LCD

Very helpful walkthrough. Filled in the important details the iFixit guide left out.

Apparently you forgot you mention that you HAVE TO disconnect the power first (25:14). You do it first but don't mention that it is critical for the repair. Just repaired my grandson's iPad mini while watching this video. Happy to say his iPad is all in one piece again. Thank a bunch!!

Very well done tutorial. My only suggestion would be to zoom in some of the time to see the small details.
Quick question... can I substitute a heating gun with a blow dryer?
yes
Incredibly thorough! Best one here. Put off installing today because other videos were not as detailed. Will install tomorrow using these instructions. Hoping for the best. Thank you!
I've had issues getting the LCD to sit properly on the bottom right edge. Any advice or things to watch out for?
im wondering whether all replacement screens come with adhesive / glue automatically or not? if NOT, what would be the alternative solution? thx
So wait I'm confused, should scratch the LCD screen or nah? Lol, I think you said not to scratch it about 15 times haha. Either way, thanks for the tutorial, I just did my first swap out. Do you know if a no potencial magnet could damage my ipad?
I want to put it below the headphones input.
i was using different kit which provided no gloves.

Is the procedure to replace the IPad MIni retina display model A1489 screen the same?
Very clear and detailed - I now have one functioning iPad mini with new LCD and digitiser. Thank you!!
Alot of reviewers on amazon sent me directly to your youtube! So this must be the best way to fix it! I will do this and update!
Followed this guide as the instructions that came with my cheap digitizer set are awful. This guide was exactly what I needed, thanks!
This was absolutely the best video showing the replacement of the screen. I followed it step by step and it worked perfectly.
Before you take out the LCD digitizer, when you heating your edge surface of iPad.
What temperature with heating gun ??! How hot should it be? what degree?
이종효 75 is the standard , but I’ve done this with a higher temp just used it for less time
i have successfully replaced two digitizers by watching this video so far.. great work and very detailed thanks
Did your digitizers come with the home button pre-installed?
Yes
Hello,
We changed the digitizer as you showed but the iPad is automaticly locking screen when its moved in hands sometimes. Can it be the power button? Thank you
So I went through this and a few other videos, made the digitizer replacement repair and holy crap! everything still works perfectly! Except for my official Apple Smart Cover doesn't put the iPad Mini to sleep anymore. Can anyone tell me where I might have gone wrong?
magnets
Thank you master, I could not find a way to put the Flex I hope with time it will not be damaged again, thank you!
You need a mat. I have one for working on guitars. It's sort of rubbery like a big mouse pad, but more grippy. Keeps stuff from moving around.
Great video! Just one question: would a blow dryer (for hair) work in place of the hot air gun?
Yes
Great video, very thorough. Just wondered why you disconnected the battery.
I've replaced iPad two screens before but your tip about heating the finished repair so the adhesive grabs is a great idea
Well done Sir.
thank you thank you thank you! i found your video after i bought a different product but your instruction was amazing and so clear. i watched a few other videos and even though 50 mins seemed long when i had to prewatch, you covered all the little things. this was my first ever screen replacement and i couldn't have done it without my prayers and you!

What did you end up doing???
Can you use a blow dryer instead of a heat gun?
I would like to suggest doing the edge clean up after the lcd and digitizer are disconnected and off of the device..
the kit does it comes with the screwdriver?
Do you need to use the old home button so u dont get any errors later on when u update???
Thanks for a most excellent video! I followed it step by step and worked exactly as shown. Awesome!! Now I don't have to go buy a new iPad.
Buddy you did amazing on your video. Thank you with all my heart. You are amazing. I'm about to do a battery and digitizer on a iPad 3, yes I watched you do that also. And will watch it again. But thought I'd watch others to get me in the right mode. I will suggest you to my whole family.
can i use electrical tape to hold down the lcd because there wasnt any tape on mine when i opened it.
In this guide , it says to shutdown power before replace operation . But , in my case , How can I shutdown power off if the touchscreen it's not working ?
If there are spots where the touch wont work, would i need to replace the LCD or the digitizer alone?
I forgot to put the magnets in the new screen. Can I still place them in my new screen it if I use tape after reheating it to lift it up and putting them where they need to go?
Where do you get that kit from? And also does it work with a hairdryer lol? I don't have a heat gun! 😭
hola soy de mexico me gusta su canal son muy buenos .tengo una pregunta si al touch no le afecta si no pongo la cinta magnetica que esta alado de flex. saludos.
you sir are getting both a like and a subscribe. i cant tell you how many lcd's i have cracked performing this repair. i knew there had to be a better way to separate the lcd and midframe.
Hi,
I lost my magnet on my old screen and Im replacing a new screen. Does this work?
Did you find out if it works still? Im worried

My iPad mini2 is broken glass
I can see some black glass panel from the broken screen
It is inside the broken screen
Is it lcd?
Do I have to replace the led too
Or only the glass
I know glass is broken but hope the lcd a not broken because glass protects it
Where do you get the tight black gloves?
These are probably Nitrile gloves - you can purchase them many places. e.g. amazon.com
will this work for the Ipad mini 2 model A1489
How do you connect the digitizer to the logicboard?
So from top to bottom we have digitizer then lcd screen then the metal frame when do you realize that lcd doesn't work my iPad us cracked the digitizer do I have to replace the lcd too???
Will this still work if one of the corners is dented?
Why is this kit you opened not available on the website?
***** it still isnt there
That was the best Ipad screen replacement video here on youtube. thanks
I have the issue that the teeth come off the fpc connector on the board about 10% of the time when removing the digitizer. Is there a trick to this? Whats the safest way to remove the digitizer connecter from the board?
How much will the be when available on the website?
hi friend, change the screen of my iPad A-1432, as well as in the video, and when you put the new screen and try everything, the screen went dark, you can barely see the manzanita, I got another screen to test if it was the screen and it looks the same, dark, what can that be and why ???
PLEASE RESPOND TO ME, WHAT SHOULD I DO IF WHETHER THE VOLUME UP OR THE DOWN IS LIKE JAMMED
Do i leave it on???
do i have to heat it again when install??
I ordered a replacement digitizer for my ipad mini and the flex connector was completely different than the one that came off. Had to return and order another. Why would there be two different connector types for one device?
How Many does that Cost?
Or I need to go to the Apple Store?

Mkkkkkwkssssskssssssiss

Any ideas why my new digitiser wont sit flat like home button assembly is too deep?
Si there any way I can contact you? I was replacing the screen and when I was testing the touch screen the LCD was green with line colors that means y broke the lcd?
