THANKYOU!!! This has worked a treat and I now have a new mirror fitted. Mine had snapped on the aluminium arm so the outer mirror was loose. Got a shell and had to transfer the mirror motor and lense, cover etc over. No problem except one of the three tiny long screws that secure the motor mech snapped but I managed to force the motor mech off with a long screwdriver and leverage. Held on with 2 now but seems fine. Took the precaution of soaking the folding mech in penetrating oil and also coated the bare aluminium of the mirror too to hopefully prevent further corrosion for a while.

i have manual mirrors on my XJ and was thinking to get power folding ones, so you will not recommend this?

Allegedly the metal is not Aluminium but ZAMAK, which is a family of alloys consisting of a Zinc base and added Aluminium, Magnesium, Copper, and sometimes also Iron
