- John Fogerty in conversation with David Wild
discussing his memoir, "Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music"
John Fogerty is one of rock’s most influential musicians and writers. He was songwriter, lead singer, and lead guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival and has been named one of the 100 Greatest Singers and one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists by Rolling Stone and his most recent album was named one of Rolling Stone‘s 10 Best Albums of 2013.
Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of the most important and beloved bands in the history of rock, and John Fogerty wrote, sang, and produced their instantly recognizable classics: “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Born on the Bayou,” and more. In his memoir, he reveals how he brought CCR to number one in the world, eclipsing even the Beatles in 1969. By the next year, though, Creedence was falling apart; their amazing, enduring success exploded and faded in just a few short years.
Fortunate Son covers Fogerty’s Northern California roots, through Creedence’s success and the retreat from music and public life, to his hard-won revival as a solo artist who finally found love.
David Wild is an Emmy-nominated television writer, a best-selling author, a Contributing Editor for Rolling Stone, and a blogger for Huffington Post.
I love how humble he is ! Alot of famous singers and actors are not!!! Keep on rockin because at my age I need the exercise!😂 I can't help dancing when I hear you sing!!❤
THANK YOU FOR SOME OF THE BEST SONGS IN HISTORY....❤❤❤❤
What an incredible songwriter, and what a voice . Pure genius . 😊

he wrote super great songs wow, loved CCR
It was so nice to see the smile on John's face while they were playing The Broken Down Cowboy.
THE BEST INTERVIEW I HAVE EVER SEEN . AT 77 YEARS OLD I HAVE SEEN PLENTY .BLESS JOHN AND HIS FAMILY . AND THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS FOR ALL OF US TO SEE .
We attended a Fogerty concert last night 7/21/23.. He still has it and his sons were amazing but it brought tears to my eyes to watch the group of men in front of me (obvious Vietnam Vets) come to life and sing along to Fortunate Son!❤❤a humble man and has touched more souls than he will ever know. Thank you to the entire Fogerty Family
I just had a beaming smile on my face. yes, I smoked some reefer. but it's because no matter when you play 'Proud Mary' ,it will sound great!. 50 yrs.,100 years.
Great interview and what a giant talent John is.
John fogerty is a personal hero of mine my mom used to have us take our bath and then watch the CCR special that was annual back then and when I hear Rambo Temple I feel as free as the wind I love you John fogerty full blast tight hugs from Dana Point California
Thank you so much John for all of your songs; they are some of the songs that got me and millions of others through that CRAZY TIME. FORTUNATE SON was an anthem for many of us. USCG 1969 -1973
Good to see this video of John of the Band of Creedence l love it.
Someone had a hot mic hitting a vape pen a few times during this 😅 Can't get enough of Fogerty's story!
I love you John! I don't even remember how old I was when I bought my very first record but, I will always remember that it was the first album by Creedence Clearwater Revival with the songs, Suzi Q and I Put A Spell On You. You have contributed more to the culture with your songs than anyone else I know. Thank you for giving us such a great body of work. You are truly a living legend. ❤
And for those who don't know, El Cerrito is between Richmond and Berkeley California across the bay from San Francisco.
Thank you Mr. Fogerty and Mr. Wild, I listen Twice!
He does tend to waffle on a lot. I saw a shorter interview with him and one thing struck me , his consistency about dates and stories. He looks amazing for 76 .
What a great songwriter he his. I can imagine he must mean a great deal to those guys coming home from the war.
One of The Guys I Admire and Respect The Most….Can’t say enough.
Thank you!
Love hearing him talk about his life❤
LOVE YOU JOHN FOGERTY...I GREW UP ON YOUR MUSIC FROM MY DAD....HE WAS A MARINE....1969 VIETNAM VET...NICHOLAS NOVELLINO....LOVE NIKKKIE NOVELLINO....❤❤❤❤
Love this interview, I've watched it many times and always learn something new about you❤ I truly believe God made you a Musical Genius to help the World 🌎 and Individuals express themselves through you‼️‼️ And you are not outrageous eating bats.
Or having snakes or gators as props on stage or wearing scary makeup. You come on stage in jeans, a plaid shirt and a smile on your face, YOU are us, the coal miner, auto worker, teacher.... You write songs about us !!! YOU are that MUSICAL GENIUS who is one of us. YOU HAVE IT ALL, but you are the coal miner , teacher ‼️‼️❣️🙏🏽 That's. Just One Reason why I Love your music and have the utmost Respect for YOU,🙏🏽❣️‼️🌎🌠your fan always Rita ❣️🙏🏽 but
Thank you! Very good insight provided. And I wish John could have had bass and drums to provide his signature back beat while playing live at the end.
John Fogerty is a great songwriter and is the epitome of "wisdom for the pain."
Gees, so happy to have found this video!!
Just the very best
I have to read your book and It would be Awesome if you could sign it❤Your fan always ❤Rita
Can’t wait to see him perform along the scenic Fox River in Aurora, Illinois, on July 31.
You are so right about the Viet Nam saga. Remember that we were essentially sending kids and unlike today it was via a draft. There was the deferment for being a student so the richer kids could afford college and the poor kids not. Your sound meant so much!!!
MY DAD WAS PART OF THE DRAFT...1969 MARINE VIETNAM VET...NICHOLAS NOVELLINO....❤❤❤❤
I've always said if somebody doesn't like John Fogerty there has to be something wrong with them ! 😅
Rickenbackers rule the World.
I think John meant 24 Sep 1986 Indianapolis, IN, USA - Music Sports Center
the other 3 had no value to Saul. publishing and ownership is what it's all about. but I've seen a few CREEDENCE/FOGERTY podcasts and docs, and it becomes clearer that they all 4 failed to make a decent deal when they were young and naive. old story. the only thing missing is they're not black.
RIP dear John...we were blessed to have you!
Uh... He's not dead..
Llegó el chad ok!?
I don’t dig the interviewer’s puffed up questions, which are very typical of certain music and “culture” writers.
Fortunately for us Fogerty could talk to a bullfrog and sound intelligent.
Glad he loves his wife but ugh who cares.
