- This fish is called wild oscar cichlid, or Astronotus ocellatus wild. Yeah, so, it turns out, it’s a female. I’m 90% sure. You might be able to tell at 3:06.
She only likes the zucchinis. She did nibble at other veggies, but she decided that they weren’t for her. She doesn’t eat the seeds. She spits them out. I boiled the veggies for around 10 minutes. Carrots, a lot longer until they were soft.
The golden nugget pleco hasn’t grown much. He cleans the driftwood really well. The driftwood is always immaculate. He does eat the cucumber once in a while. Usually, I have to feed at night when the lights are all off for him to start moving around. He is actually very lively and super-fast. It’s just that whenever I enter the room, he always plays hide ‘n seek with me.
The albino pleco eats everything. He gets beat up by the golden nugget. You can see the ripped fins in the video. That was done by the golden nugget. They go at it once in a while and the albino always loses. The fight usually only lasts less than 5 seconds or so, so it’s impossible to film it. The albino is at least twice the size, but the golden nugget is super aggressive toward the albino. They don’t fight every day, maybe once a week? Whenever the albino has torn fins, that’s how I know they got into it.
The fastest way to soak the sun dried river shrimp is to microwave it for 50 seconds in a half a cup of water. I then rinse it in cold water. My microwave is 750W.

Holy crap I've missed you. You helped convince my folks to make a small backyard pond again (we had one at our old house). My dad, who's wheelchair bound and suffers from depression, adores them and makes sure they get fed at least 2x a day. Normally he doesn't move around much. Mostly the bedroom, the dinner table and bathroom. But now he ventures outside more.

Having small activities to do when you have depression gives you some enjoyment in life. Have him try to venture out with different hobbies as well. Possibly ones you can do together.

Can't belive how relaxing it is watching Oscar destroy a zucchini. She grew up so fast, just a few months ago she was so tiny.
Her name isn’t Oscar, that’s the type of fish that she is. She doesn’t have a name yet

She grew up big and strong because she ate all her vegetables
I trained my Oscars to ring a bell when they want feeding and they will also play “ping pong” with me. If you pop a ping pong ball on the surface they will spit it out of the tank. They’ll do this for 10/20 mins until they get bored and want more food. Very clever fish. In my experience they are absolute gluttons though and will stuff themselves until they are swimming about with their mouths crammed with food. They’ll eat anything. I’ve been keeping them for 40+ years and are easily my favourite freshwater fish.

@@swedishwildlife916 it was a long time ago. There is a video on my channel of my freshwater tank but the Oscar in it isn’t one of the trained ones.
@@hammad3180 I cut a strip of plastic condensation tray and placed it on top of the tank and attached a small bell from a cat’s collar. Every time I fed them I would ring the bell. It doesn’t take long before they associate the bell with food and start ringing it themselves. One of them would actually grab the bell in its mouth and hang out of the water shaking it!

Marvelous color to her coat, especially that sunspot on her tail, mimics her eye a bit. All their colors are wondrous healthy.
That's one of the nicest Oscars I've ever seen. The eye spot on the tail is the only orange bit and it really stands out. Nice colour combo on the body.
This makes me so happy, I love Oscars and I think your doing a great job with your wild one. To watch your Oscar eat blanched veggies like that is awesome and makes the statement that they need live feeders is totally false. When I kept Oscars I fed alot of freeze dried and pellets, never tried veggies but they loved veggie wafers. But they are piggies and will eat anything lol. This makes me want a wild Oscar again. And I think you name her Ocella. For Astronotus ocellatus

My brother kept oscars for years and loved them. They're very smart, outgoing (sometimes even aggressive) almost like fish doggies. :) Problem was, he fed them so well they'd always end up outgrowing their tanks and he had to give them away to owners with more room. His last oscar was absolutely huge, looked like a Bass!

Cute Oscar my fiance recently rescued one that was being bullied almost to death by another cichlid in the tank. I got him with 2 goldfish and a koi rn but only because they're triple his size but he shoes no signs of aggression towards anyone and is the goodest boy so far
