Sulphonic acid is a surfactant is acidic in natural around ph 1. Before a sulphonic acid is activated to be effective cleaner and degreaser you need to add in a strong base to it. Eg soda ash , caustic soda, potassium hydroxide etc. if u carry this out in water it will still rise. If u dilute sulphonate acid in water and add a strong base it will foam and rise too. Is a necessary step to insure that ur product working. So is good that ur sulphonic is activated and the ph raised so it can actually remove tough grease stains
