Yamaha CT-3 cylinder honing, fitting piston

- In this video I hone the Yamaha CT-3, 175 enduro cylinder and fit the piston to the cylinder. To do this I use the LBA-666 Sunnen hone. Honed with 280 grit then finished up with 400 grit. Once the piston fit is set, I check the ring gap, and chamfer the ports.

Another thing I noticed is how clean your shop is
Wow, thank you, I have to say sometimes it is, sometimes not so much. Thanks for stopping by.
I worked with my dad as a kid he's a auto machinist and on that same hone did a lot of bike jugs to he still has it and still uses it to day nice job dale .
Hey Robert, these old hones used to be in every filling station repair shop across the country. Very accurate and reliable. My dad also used one forever. I get a lot of use out of this one, not just cylinders, but any kind of ID work that size is critical on. Thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.
Looks good Dale. Thanks for sharing brother.
Thank you, sir, you bet, thanks for stopping by.
Amazingly fast progress. Look forward to hearing you fire it up!
Well not really, just don't have a lot else to do, so thought I would get what I could done on this beast. Lots of fair-weather things to do when that time comes. Thanks for stopping by shop buddy.
great job as always dale keep it going
Thank you, sir, thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for the video Dale.
Hey thanks Chris, you're coming along nicely with your build. Your channel is doing really well too, keep at it. It will grow faster than you think.
Enjoyed it Dale, thanks for posting.
You got it Jeff, thanks for coming by the channel.
Great Video Dale, Very Educational !! When I get my Jug back from the Rebore, I think I will do the Chamfering with fine course wet & Dry, If it needs it, I don't trust myself doing it with a power tool. THX for the Education !! Malc U.K.
I hear Ya Malc, it is pretty easy to slip, whoever did your rebore should probably do it, it is part of the job.
Another great video
Thank you, Michael, I appreciate you spending time here.
@@montana2strokeracer Hi Dale, I’m getting closer to finishing that 1971 at1 125. I was able to pop the armature off the flywheel this afternoon and replace that seal. I’ve replaced all the seals. You have been a big help and made my project so much easier and fun. when it was running if you came to a stop and try to put it in first gear it wouldn’t go in most of the time. You had to shift into low gear while you were moving. after watching your video I made the adjustments on the shifter and replace that part with the roller on it. It had some play in it. Hoping that takes care of it.Thanks again. I’m watching you from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Thx for the 411 on the tool.
You bet, had to look 411 up though, remember I'm an old guy. Let me know when you find your Bridgeport. I have a video somewhere of me and my buddy unloading and moving that thing to where it sits now. Major job. Put it on several 3/4-inch pipes and rolled it slowly.
Great honing demo vid. I bought a poly vee belt for my old MA hone machine. It may be slightly long. I was interested to see how far your idler pulley moves before the spindle turns. Maybe about 1" to the right? I may have to add a shim under my motor, not a big deal. The belt was $11 not $90 for the Sunnen replacement.
I know man, the only thing I buy from Sunnen is stones, which the price is not too bad in my opinion. I end up making parts if they wear out or break. But you have to admit they sure made a quality machine, but I'm sure that I would not have been able to afford one in the 60's when mine was new. Hope you are able to get yours going to your satisfaction, and thanks for stopping by the channel.
present/ready to learn!
Glad to have you Frank.
Very good Dale. I wonder how many cylinders the Honing machine has rescued since 1966!
Great video as usual.
Best wishes, Dean.
Thanks Dean, hundreds since I've had it. It has probably seen more connecting rods and king pin bushings than motorcycle cylinders, but one just never knows. Thanks for stopping by Dean.
@@montana2strokeracer I have the sunnen LBB-1699k rod hone and I got the An-600 mandrel can you tell me what truing sleeve size do I need for it ?
@@cdpperformance2613 Hi there, I only have one for the AN600 and it works for everything I do. It is a #2750. Hope this helps.
Do you have any issues with taper? Does the cutting pressure of the stones flex the skirts away?
Never, you just keep up with your stone truing, and flip the cylinder end for end to keep it consistent. I generally can keep taper to less than .0002
is the oil going on the outside of the trueing cylinder?
Oh yeah, I just try to get some inside every once in a while, takes longer to turn the oil off and on than to just make a mess.
Hey Dale
Hey Larry, do you have a new user ID? It seems different. Thanks for coming by the channel.
Hey brother
Howdy, howdy
