Boring out cylinders today!

- I want to show you guys how I bore out cylinders and cut them down for more compression. In another month, I will be getting very busy doing motorcycle machine work. I work on motors and transmissions, I no longer build out bikes or work on other peoples whole bikes anymore.
If you would like any machine work or motor work done just give me a call or send it in. Dont forget to put a note in the box with what you would like done along with a return address and phone number, and pack it really good.
Shop T-shirts: www.dragonmans... -- they ship out the next day!
I was a machinist before a disability and listening to Dragonman, he would make a great teacher for younger people wanting to learn a trade.
That’s why I’m here😂that and I’m trying to modify my motorcycle
Yup same here tryna learn a thing or two!
I was thinking the same thing too. Hopefully he has a grandson absorbing all this knowledge. Would be an awesome grandpa to hang with
Damn few people that are great mechanics are good teachers also.He is. When young I struggled and struggled with carbs then the right teacher taught me all i needed to know in just a few minutes...methods.
Support that brother 🙏
What is cool is the Dragon is having a ball. It's fun watching.
Old schoolers have known Dragonman since his ads in the old biker mags from back in the day. He's been badass a long time dudes.
You remind me a lot of my dad. Strong work ethic and a real Self Starter
Look at that workshop, look at all those machines and tools!
I love when he does these videos. I never tire of watching him demonstrate and tour his shop. You could spend years following him around the shop day in and day out and still learn something new every day.
A very well equipped work shop with someone who knows what he’s doing, thanks very much.
I love your work ethic! young gen has nothing on the old timers.
Kids today could learn a thing or two from him...he's a great role model
Ok boomer
@@neilbreen9041 just think ive been crushing souls in the Army longer than you have probably been alive. Its both shocking and frightful how weak, lazy, and self serving this generation is. This is just a sad fact. It has been pointed out by every respected military leader in our time.
@@A1soldiersaint Imagine being subscribed to athleanx and calling others weak.
@@neilbreen9041 imagine having no concept of character, hard work, or sacrifice to provide for family and instead thinking that a persons' character or strength is based on some video they watched. Like MLK, i will judge by the content of one's character. I have trained literally hundreds of young men and i have seen the humble and the teachable prevail while the proud and disrespectful fail many times over.
I just love this guy and have since reading good ol' Street Chopper back in the '70s way up in northern Sweden during dark winter nights when dreams were made. 👍 - Thanks Dragonman!
Machine shops I’ve used you drop off a cylinder on Monday and ur lucky to get it a week later.
"If you snooze you lose" I like that one!
man this video is incredible im blown away i was looking for dirtbike broing but i also got shovels cant beleive i found this! incredible
You're a cool old guy with a badass shop. Love it.
I hope one of his family members learns this because it's a lost art and this knowledge is going away with these guys.. best service and job I seen on harley engines
real talk pal
I wonder about that too. I wish he would start an apprenticeship program.
Amazing equipment and skills to match... VERY VERY COOL...
Learned more from this video that 8 previous ones by others.
Nice. Ive done dirt bike cylinders for 30 years. Its a dying art with these new coatings in the cylinders. Ive sleeved a million cylinders on my VW bug cylinder machine and the lathe.. It would do the little 80 cylinders too. Ive got piston manufacture stickers on my garage door so thick I think its holding the door together..lol
Do you offer resleeving services a little kx85
You know you can do nikasil coating yourself right?
If I EVER need any harley machine work it's going to you dragon man!!
Incredible shop!!
Your not boring at all Dragonman:)...love your shop set up...all those tools and machines tell me you have been doing this a longggg time..
its great to see a guy like him and the age he is with full of energy and willing to show things to others awesome
my goal is to have a shop like that one day! awesome to know how to do all that stuff!
Dragonman i didn't even know this was your main career, i didn't think i could respect someone as much as i could respect you(over the internet). I see why and how you really got your name now. You're a very wise man thanks so much for all these range of videos. Good luck with the upcoming winter you've got a nice gig. I work outside cutting/welding on asphalt plants that are shut down for the winter in the north east. I respect your craft youra master
This guy is the real deal.
You are never boring to me, Mel! I am really enjoying your machine shop videos! Thanks for sharing!
Bayswater Blvd.
You have a great setup, Mel. I was a machinist, but I didn't do automotive type machining. I made all types of parts for industrial applications. The shop I worked for had a similar honing machine, Bridgeport milling machines, and all types of milling and turning machines. We used the very same dial bore gauges you have and that's how I know you have a great machine shop for motorcycle engine repair.
Really good video compared to some of the boring video's I've seen on UA-cam. I had no idea you could bore a cylinder the way you did on the first machine. Very fast!
Nice video, love seeing behind the curtain...
what an amazingly clear video; ** thank you, sir**
So awesome! What a great shop
Nice work dragon.in Africa we need those machines . thanks
Awesome video! I feel that after watching your video I have gained some knowledge about boring cylinders. You are well organized and provide a valuable service with a fast turnaround. I may need your services.
Brother you can tell you have been doing that for a long time 😊 because you knew when to stop well done 👏
This is amazing. I love your work. Thanks for posting this video.
I wish we had a shop in Minnesota like this
Love your shop, I can see how you get things done so quickly. I've always loved to do machine work.
still nice to watch. Hope all is well.
Another great video Mel, thanks for sharing...keep up the hard work! Stay awesome!
Your shop is awesome!
I Love this video. It’s my 2nd time now to watch it.
I also bore out cylinders.

I’m a locomotive mechanic by trade but always had a interest in this kind of work.

You are blessed my friend
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!
Dragon Man: You see that?
Me: Yes sir Mr. Dragon man sir!
Very impressive. In every way. Thank You
cant believe machines with such vibration can actually work with 0.008 inch precision. amazing.
That was wicked. I have always had questions as to how you center stuff.
You are great.we dont have people so skilled like you in our vicinity any more, we once had them, now the generation is lazy and is full of only money grabbers. So happy to see you brother.Iam fighting for the ban of fuel injection systems and electric pumps together with the hot spark ignition system all governed by the ECM.As all this rubbish is responsible for car fires.
great help thanks mate
Dragonman's the maan! 👍
Great setup
That was really, really interesting and informative. Subscribed
Hey that was terrrific Thanks for walking through what a day is like for you.
My husband loves you.
How square is your setup on that Sunnen or is there a little give for the bore to find itself on the mandrel for squareness? Cheeers from Canada.
Great shoppe...! I'll remember...
Dragon man,you seem like a pretty cool guy.good job.
Pretty cool boss!
This guy is Gold!!
Thanks for Sharing!
Nice shop.wow.
Learned a lot from this video. Thanks for posting.
how does this guy find the time do all these things? its almost as if there multiples of him.
He also operates the camera.
Doesn't sleep, he waits
Sir, you have it figured out. I have an ATV cylinder in need of work can I send it to you? My search of cylinder boring brought me to you! I'd volunteer my time to learn from a man like you.
A buddy of mine says NEVER practice on your own stuff. LOL
When i was boring a wide array of engines the customers with the Harleys were the worst some would bring the barrels back and say it has to much clearance look the piston wobbles so then you have to explain to them that the piston is not round it may look round but it is not, the clearance is measured at its largest point which is at the bottom of the skirt 90 degrees to the gudgeon pin. The harley guys always thought they knew best.
awesome, im going to build my 225 Mercury outboard. i have to sleeve 2 cylinders is that a hard process?
Very cool 😎 brother 👌
Guy dose it all‼️🫡🇺🇸
Awesome you have inspired me
Very good spirited video, thank you!
Seems like a fun job we thank u 🍺
A great American, super successful guy who made the most out of living in the land of the free, shame his knowledge is becoming a dying art
Very Cool!
Do you use an FN boring bar? If not why? Totally awesome shop!!
This Guy is the best
Nice Work!!
i don't know when the last time you weighed a set of pistons, but those junky cast pistons weigh a lot more than a nice set of forged pistons. I know, I've been doing this for 30+ years and still doing it today. After you start cutting the cylinders down you have then thrown off the intake manifold and pushrod length. Then you still don't have much more compression because those junky cast pistons seldom ever oil out to what they are advertised for also. I know. I do that quite often too. Then you end up with cylinders that are too short and you can throw them in the trash because when you put a good set of pistons in them there will not be enough length for the top piston ring. Also the 100 grit roughing stones should only be used to straighten out the cylinder and the 280 stones should take out the last .005" so you have a nice finish, not a rough finish.
Yea I like Dragonman but having been an automotive machinist for 16 years I couldn’t have gotten away with some of the stuff he does, his business tho.
@@stevenbridgman7446 Yea I like Dragonman too, and he's got a slick set up, the whole machine shop, but there were quite a few failed dragonman motors in the shop back in the early 90's.
I do 2 stroke outboards in my shop. I use 280 grit to hone out the last .001 to get a plateau hone. Also my Kwik way bar gets a cylinder within.0001 so there’s not much straightening to do.
@@terrorofdemons1168 well we all now know not to bring you anything. You should go get your measuring equipment checked because either you or it are lying.
I could NOT believe it when he ran the piston done that bore that was full of honing slurry.
YOU CANT IMPROVISE EXPERIENCE !!!!! MASTER CRAFTMAN
That's a lot of 'how not to do it" in 1 video
Dudde is more worried about speed than accuracy.
Wow, what a great video!
Those Kwik Ways were the best !! How many times have customers given ya a pair of cylinders with two different diameters??
How xan i get a hold of dragonman , i have questions on usong my boring machine . If somone can tell me where i can call him to . ? Just got some tech questions
i like this work
