  • Comparing Indonesia vs. China made Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro unboxing. Side-by-side comparison of the made-in-Indonesia VS. the made-in-China Steinberger Spirit GT Pro! The video I wish I saw BEFORE buying! I am comparing two units of the same model Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro in Hot Rod Red, manufactured in Indonesian and China respectively.

I've come up with a way you can recognise them in photographs. If you look at the 12th freet, the two dots on the outfacing side of the fretboard are closer together on the MIC (Made in China) version, while they are nearer to the edge on the MII (Made in Indonesia) version.

Mine is made in China. It was OK out of the box, but after a little bit of set-up (slightly tightened truss rod and adjusted saddle heights) it plays incredibly well. Lowest, fastest action of any of the guitars I own. I love it!

Pickups aren't anything special, but that's true of the Indonesian model too. Also fitted a combo headpiece so I can use regular single ball-end strings (10 minute modification) as well.

Bro! I've been dying for something like this! It's so frustrating when the same retailer will post pictures with BOTH MII and MIC Spirits! Thanks so much! I'll have to ask Sweetwater specifically for MII when I order one. Thanks!

Thanks for the info!... What is the best way to tell the difference when shopping? Retailers don't always offer that information 😕

Thanks, I wish I've seen this before getting one for my kid's Chritsmas (from Music Store) unfortunately it's the "China handcrafted" version (and the tone adjustment pot seems skewed like if it would had a bump but works).. Since we are no experts we are still exploring adjusting the action (saddles) and adapting but I feel there is some buzz that shouldn't be there, not sure if it's from the bridge spring locking mechanism when it's in tune and perfectly adjusted the locking hook doesn't make any pressure so it may vibrate, and easy solution is to just don't use the locking hook on the bridge, but if you change the tuning to use Drop D on the fat string you might need to also retune the bridge, or maybe just lock it with slight pressure and don't think about it.. I still need to understand what is the best action (string height) to play and if I need to change the truss rod as someone said here on other comment... I tried to lower the action but he complained the fat E string had no space to pluck with finger because the pickups are close to strings and fill almost all space from neck to bridge, so I raised a bit that fat E string and I'm still waiting for feedback :) He used to play on a low cost Squire Stratocaster that didn't have frets 22-24 so some Metallica songs got capped but it has costed 1/3 the cost of this Steinberger so I was expecting some noticeable improvement as I heard on some other youtubers this Steinberger is a very comfortable guitar to play..

@MiguelSilvaX it's a great guitar to play. Mine is set up now with pick-ups from GFS and 9 gauge strings. I also changed the tuners out for custom ones that are easier to turn. It has a p90 neck, a piezo middle, and a LOUDmouth humbucker bridge. Stays on tune, smooth playing, and great tone at every fret. I am referring to the MII one. The MIC went back to the seller.

Probably Chinease isn't setup in the factory. However it is a rule of good tone to give a new guitar to a master to set it correctly.
