3 Ways to Transfer Photos from a Camera to an iPhone, iPad or Android Device - SFTH #32

- A buddy of mine asked me the other day, “How do you edit your photos?” You know it’s funny. Had he asked me this question five years ago, my answer would have been completely different.
These days, with three baby monkeys in tow, I’m realizing time is extremely limited. If I’m going to edit my photos, I have to do so on the go.
The good news is that there are tons of free and affordable editing apps available for both iOS and Android devices. Making it incredibly easy to tweak and adjust photos in a coffee shop or while watching Paw Patrol for the upteenth time.
However, one of the biggest pain points is figuring out how to get the photos from the camera to the phone.
So here in Part 1, I’m going to show you the three methods I use to transfer photos over to my phone.
1) WiFi
2) SD Card Adapter
- Apple iOS Lightning to SD Card Reader Adapter: amzn.to/2n0BNe0
- Android OTG SD Card Reader Adapter: amzn.to/2eTfFNA
3) Dropbox

Much appreciated 😅
I didn't realise an sd card reader adapter thingie was a thing!! All this time I was hoping apple would introduce an sd card reader slot 😂 Definitely buying that, thank you!!
To be able to plug a memory card into the iphone/ipad would be awesome. :D
Jacob Saunders I bought one it’s very tricky to work. I’m working on figuring out videos because it’s not working
Well did you- 3 years later😂
5 years after this video was made and this became a huge help. Thank you. My brother in law passed away a few days ago and I am scrambling to find all the photos I had of him through 10 years. My laptop that I backed all the photos isn’t turning on but the sd card camera adapter will solve the problem! Thank you so much. You have no idea how much my sister is depending on these photos.
Dude I love your videos. They're straight and to the point, the way they should be. Thank you!
Ha ha, thanks so much Jose! Really appreciate that 😁
Facts
He talked for the 1st 1:40, hows that straight to the point?
THANK YOU! Me and my cousin were dying , we are in this photography class and we didn’t know how to save the pictures without it taking HOURS SO THANK YOU! You’ve made our lives a little bit easier
Omg ilysm u legit saved my life coz I'm just starting to

Hi Moose, When you transfer your photo’s via wifi using the canon app it will only let you send jpeg files not raw and also when you transfer your videos via wifi the canon app will only let you send at 720p. If you buy the lighting SD card adapter you can transfer raw photos and full HD video like 1080p of 4K. Like you I agree this is the best method to transfer all your photos and videos to your iPhone, iPad etc for editing. Great video. Thanks
Can I upload raw using the adaptor and then send them to Lightroom cc?
Kind of funny that I see this comment. My camera has two versions of every picture taken, a RAW version and a jpeg. Very annoying having to clear half of the photos I take. Not too sure why exactly this is happening
Really enjoying these mini-series that you are putting out. Very practical and useful information! Keep up the great work!
4 years later and this video was EXTREMELY helpful. thank you man!!!
your way of making your videos doesnt allow us to skip for how entertaining you are
the one draw back when transferring via wifi is that the quality of the pic diminishes a bit. As a photographer it's very easy to see the picture quality is not at 100%. When editing on a lot of apps on the phone it also diminishes the quality and resizes the picture smaller automatically. Nice tutorial though.
Great comprehensive, easy to understand tips!
Thanks so much! I didn’t even know a the SD card adapter was a thing😂 big help!
Thanks ever so much.. This video was so so helpful.. Simple x straight to the point.. Thanks from Ireland
Aaahh!!!! I love your videos! You're simply the best, Moose. Thank you for taking the time to make these so easy and informative :)
He makes some valid points on preferable transfer solutions, however if you are truly into editing your photos and you shoot in RAW, the first option of WIFI is out of the equation.
Most, if not all camera brands who provide wireless transfer capabilities do not allow you to transfer full size RAW files to your smartphone via their native app.
There are 3rd party apps that will allow you to do so, but honestly if that is the route you are going I highly suggest investing in a card reader. The speeds are much quicker and it really isn't that much of an inconvenience.
Just remember, RAW files are much bigger in size and you will want to ensure that you back your memory card up to a storage drive or your computer, so you can clear them from your phone and save valuable workflow space.
It’s taking me over half an hour to email myself a 1 minute video 😫 I mean my grandparents internet is slow as hell but still, very frustrating. I didn’t know about the adapter though so I might have to check that out. Thanks a lot
Hi Moose, really like your video tutorials, simple but to the point,in this video do you find the wifi juice's the battery quick..All the best Neil in England..
Yes, definitely. WiFi will lower the battery percentage in both your camera and phone. It's one of the reasons I prefer the SD card reader. 😁
I film on a camera and edit my videos on my imac my sister films on her phone but she’s gonna get a camera soon I told to watch this video and this is a great tip!
Your videos are easier for us elder folks to understand. Thank you.Tom Young
Thank you for this! I just bought the T5I and didn't realize that it didn't have Wifi. Your method of using an adapter straight to your phone is genius. I just bought it! It seems that it will be much faster than using Wifi to transfer photos esp when you are transferring hundreds at a time! Great vid! :)
makeupbytavao what the name of the usb again? the red one?
I haven't had a digital camera years and finally got one.. SD card adapter for the phones! didn't even think of that! Thank you for your video, it is very helpful.
Thank you for this info !
My husband I just started a channel about living in our van and I’ve been recording with my phone bc I couldn’t figure out how to transfer photos off my rebel t 5 to my laptop to my phone to edit so this is a lifesaver for me .

Aspiring UA-camr and mama here and this video was super informative! Thank you and not gunna lie the kiddos are what got me to hit the subscribe ! Lol
Great info. Love how you made it simple to understand!
This was the bombest of all the videos I watched on UA-cam concerning this topic. Thanks!!!👍
Such a helpful video !! I was able to successfully download my pictures onto my iPhone , thanks you so much.
I like how iOS manages photos using a camera connection kit and an Olympus EM5. I want the same for my Oneplus phone. The Folder app doesn't have previews makes selection difficult.
Aww the little
cute boy in the beggining is really cute and adorable!!😍💞
Hello, I am using a canon200d and having a problem in transferring my timelapse in mov. (canon default file format) to my iPhone 7. May I check if the SD card reader by iPhone would be able to transfer mov. File to iPhone7? I do basic editing on my iPhone . Thanks in advance.
Omg bro thankyou!!!! I was emailing myself the photos then downloading them from the email on my phone 🤦🏾♂️
chris shaw same 😂😂😂
I have a question! Does the SD card even go with the videos? respectively Canon 4000D - IPhone 5 ...

It looks like the SD card adapter that you linked for iPhones is actually a USB adapter when I click on the link!

Would love to Dev. Have to wait for the right night with a clear sky and no moonlight. :D

You answered my question straight to the point!!
Thanks man! You helped so much! Now I can use the iMovie app! You’re so helpful 👍🏽
Whats the app called
Thanks for the quick responses. I'm having an issue importing my raw files from my canon sl1 to my new mac (my old one just died out of no where). I was wondering if maybe you knew why that would be?
You bet Jen! You may need to use the latest version of Canon's DPP software or Lightroom (if you have it). The SL1 has been out for a while, so I know RAW conversion is definitely available.
Thanks so much! I found my old program, instead of what the computer was suggesting and it ended up working out.
Why on the dslr cameras the files are huge. Ex: I recorded an 11 minute video that came out to be 3.67gb 😠😠. However on my phone I recorded the same time and it came out to be 1.47gb. Why is that?
Omg this was so helpful and easy to do! every other video I watched was boring and complicated lol
Thanks!
this was very helpful. you just earned a new sub
Thank you sir for this video.. very useful.. may i ask if what camera you are using in this vlog.. thanks sir.. GODBLESS
I'm doing the 2nd option right now good thing I have a card reader ready it's pretty slow sharing from macbook to iphone though, I think it is about 20-25 mins video. I was going to transfer the video from dslr cam to iphone but I have a hard time doing it and I don't know why.
Im sold, just copped the lightning sd card reader
Thanks for the help! You explain things the best. Ian
This was a really helpful video I am happy I chose this video to transfer pictures from a camera to a phone
Hey Moose, does the SD card adapter reader that you listed for the Iphone work on the iphone 7plus? I noticed that the description that amazon listed did not include the iphone 7/7plus. Thanks!
OMG thanks so much!!!!!! This video was so helpful. You really helped me as a starter photographer. I subscribed and liked because of this video. Well done!!! 👍👍
For the first and 2nd method, can you also transfer videos?
You are an angel. I have a question, does this worsen the quality of the photos when transferring to the camera to iphone?
Thanks I used to use a USB female to Apple/IPhone Because with my camera charged with a male usb but I've got a Apple iOS lightning to sd card reader adapted and they work so much better
Wow thank u so much, I have a fujifilm camera and the app to transfer the photos sucks 😤. It is so frustrating try to use the app for anything. Definitely getting the adapter.😁
Hi hoping to ask,....
I was using EOS 500D cannon camera and I'm trying to transfer photos using a usb connector from my camera to my Samsung phone but the camera keeps saying busy....

Hello! I have a canon eos t6 and I was wondering if this works to transfer the videos filmed on there, since they are in MOV
You just solved my problem. Thank you🙏
Is it the same thing if you could transfer videos?
I have one question. Can you transfer video files using the lightning to SD card reader?
I have a question: does those 3 methods work with videos too? By the way, very good video man!
