Mia! *So* nice to hear from you again! What a surprise! I do hope you are well. If you're ever planning to come to VI, let me know. It was a rushed trip with a "mission" but I'll let you know if the reverse happens.
My pleasure. Thank you kindly! It's been a month less a day since the op (the day I recorded this). Some rough spots but looks (literally) like I'm on the mend.
Great video Ray, love seeing you out and about, and this fantastic image of yours and the history of your photography journey. Might be time for me to start talking about my 30+ year old images.
Yes. It was London drugs when I made the photo in 1983, and for some time thereafter. That Michaels is weird. Glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane.
Yes, the past can seem surreal. At times, it is just like yesterday, and other times, it feels so far away. Thanks for the view of Vancouver and your thoughts today!
Great video. Yes, thinking about some of the stuff in my past seems like a movie. Not something I would do. Good luck with the surgery and a speedy recovery.
Yes, did 'time' travelling all the time, and thinking of it, I'm still doing it! However, I was new into photography back then, and as a result much less imagery exists (didn't help either that each slide film click was about 40cts) and it often isn't that great in terms of quality. At the time I tried to capture images of the places and people I visited in Asia, but not of those immediately around me - and it was those people, this community, which made this period so special. It was special time which doesn't exist anymore, and I sadly have next to no images of this part of the 'time capsule'. I'm definitely doing things differently these days, and digital helps a lot here. It's much easier on the wallet, as it's not 40cts per click anymore! Hence I do take more 'time stamps' type of images, often boring now, but perhaps valuable in the future.
Yep, the Kodachrome bills piled up. That's why, outside of my expedition photography, I shot a lot of B&W and did my own processing and printing -- plus having total control from exposure to print. Our archives of memory are precious.
@@RaymondParkerPhoto - Asia and its colours seemed perfect for the Velvia and Provia, but about 150 rolls at US$12 for film and development (no frames) it added up. About 2k per year for not all that many images, makes my Z7, 5yrs in use now, look cheap, even considering the odd hard drive or so...😉 Dark room was sort of out for me, being on the road for about 7-8 months per year. Tough life, I know. 😁
Yep, Provia and Velvia worked very well. Beautiful stuff. I've mentioned how Kodak sponsored a bike trip but I'm glad I also bought some Velvia with my own $. Some of the best frames from 2 months on the road. I used it almost exclusively for commercial work through the '90s.
I don't feel as if I am watching a movie, I do feel that whoever that is, is not me, but I know it is. I feel detached, and I am after so many years, but I do recall, mostly fondly, those by gone days.
Do you go time travelling with your camera? And have you been in any old movies?
That's my dad's Texaco photo, and I'm also the proud owner of the 1983 version! Thanks Raymond, and speedy recovery.

Thanks for the great history tour, Ray. All the best with your operation and recovery.

Thanks, Matt! You definitely should; you have so much great work to showcase.
The building on Broadway was converted when London Drugs expanded its location. Great to see those old pictures. Really nostalgic.

I love researching old railway right-a-ways. Specifically on the Island. Speedy recovery Ray!
Cheers, Ben!

Thanks very much! Bit of a setback but starting to turn the corner, I think.
Love the video’s. Wishing you all the best.

That's a nice explanation of the feeling.
Using cameras every day we too often forget to "capture the moment" ... 🦘
