In the game, Magus tries to summon the planet devourer, Lavos, to destroy him. Unfortunately for Magus, Chrono and his merry band of heroes interrupt the summoning. It's not until much later, and with assistance, that Magus finally gets his chance to face Lavos... But, through the magic of Pro Action Replay codes, Magus takes Lavos one on one here.
Use PAR codes 7E2980xx, 7E2981xx and 7E2982xx to control the three character slots. Possible values for xx are 00 (Crono), 01 (Marle), 02 (Lucca), 03 (Frog), 04 (Robo), 05 (Ayla), 06 (Magus), 07 (???), and EE (empty).
Here, Magus is level 99, with the best possible equipment and a Gold Stud equipped. He's also been maxed out on all Tabs. No PAR codes, except those described above, were used at any point.
Last time Piccolo tried to solo fight imperfect Cell it went not good...

I think that we are talking about different Final Fantasy Xs :P, because that is not the main plot of 10, in general.
The only solo party possible without the use of Game Genie or Pro Action Replay codes is Crono. Otherwise you have to use PAR codes. If you click on "Show All Comments", you'll see instructions about 10 comments down or so.
Now if we'd just see a Chrono Brake...
Finally managed to get the finale recorded...zSNES was working fine, I just had some of the settings wrong.
Two Triple Techs, Dark Eternal (Black Rock) and Omega Flare (Blue Rock).
Yep, I've played Crono solo several times...you can do this legitimately in the game though so I didn't bother to post it. :)
Up to you on whether to do one--it is an interesting challenge. Several people have already posted their solo Crono videos on UA-cam.
What code did you use? I wanna try fighting Lavos with only Magus. :D
You can still find it on ebay fairly easily. Finding a PS1...that's a different story. Just make sure you have a PS2, or one of OLDER PS3's (the older PS3s are more compatible with older games than are the current PS3s).
I always thought the final form of Lavos was lame. Then again, it sort of fits. So I take that back. I like the nipple lasers though. When I was 10 it was the funniest thing ever.
Close--Pro Action Replay (I don't think the codes needed can be done by Game Genie). And to play as Crono solo you don't need any codes.
Somewhere in the comments of this video or part 2 I've posted how to do this--I don't remember where, but it was one of the 1st comments. If you can't find it I'll repost.

Im interested -not much- in making a rpg a bit more realistic. I mean, I dont like when for example a guy with a sword attacks first than a guy with a shotgun. The speed, dont make much sense, if the guy have a sword it should depend of stregent ("fuerza", you know what I mean) too. ¿Whatre really the health points? It would be interesting if theres Left leg HP. Right leg HP, etc. Defense may low per hit.

That's the case lol. This form looks like the first form of cell, saurians looks like some dinosaurs from db, lucca = bulma, magus = vegeta (hair), crono = goku. I am sure you could find more examples

They aren't just nipple lasers, they are DOORS OF DOOM.
Magus is level 99 here - he's wearing the Gloom Helm, Moon Armor, Gold Stud, and Doomsickle. The Gloom Helm prevents Obstacle from working (Lavos never had a chance to use his status-disabling attack, hee hee).
You can go to zsnes' website to find out about MEMcorder and LAME (which were used to record this).
Well if you stole like 40 to 50 Mega Elixers first Black Omen visit its best for a SOLO run to NOT use Gold Studs but to steal enough Mega Elixers and equip the Prism Spects/Sun glasses on him.
Besides for Magus SOLO I'd rather Haste Helm Nova Armor Prism Spects/Sun glasses him even at lv 99.

Agreed. That's a BIG part of the reason why Chrono Trigger is held in such high esteem--the battle mechanics, nonlinearity, multiple endings, haven't been duplicated so well since.
Nevertheless, I think several of the RPGs I listed (all but 1 of which I've played myself) would still be enjoyed by people who enjoy CT.

@evand3ck He's at level ** (99) in this video, and also maxed out with as many Power/Speed/Magic tabs as possible. In other words, this is the strongest Magus can get :)
Why GoldStud instead of Prismspecs ? In front of Lavos, u could use every items u want, game will not be saved anymore
Less MP per magic attack. Dark Matter might deal more damage with prism specs but will use up his mana in only 4 casts

I found Dark matter works quite well too, marle and Frog were my healers =) so I got them to use Double cure and if I ran out of magic I would make sure I had like 50 potions to restore 200 MP
Double CURE SUCKS Slurp Kiss ONLY costs 1 MP EACH for Frog and Ayla and can EASILY restore 999 HP for that MP cost by lv 50.

Is this a legit thing? Can you go with Magus alone? Each time I play on my SNES Cartridge, I always had to have a party of 3, and I always ran Magus, Ayla and Chrono. How do you solo it with Magus (yes I know how you can solo it with Chrono early with new game +). Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

@DarkD11 Xenogears is a pretty good contender with *spoiler* Deus being the recombinated genetics of all mankind, harvesting them, after creating an Eve that would mother a race that would one day rebuild Deus with it's technology, only to be defeated by reincarnated souls that were superfluous genetic errors, assisted by remnants of the previous civilization's technology that originally created Deus to power & defend the space ark of humanity and preserve human DNA.

Seriously though, if you paid attention, he beat Lavos with Crono, not Magus. What pissed me off was his claim that he did the same thing as me, only without cheating. It wasn't the same thing. You can solo Lavos with Crono, without using codes; you can't do the same with Magus.
I could care less if somebody does the same thing (there's another video on UA-cam like this), but calling me a cheater undeservedly will piss me off.
@D1am0nd77 Of course it didn't! With a level ** Magus maxed out on all tabs like he is here, even Lavos is easy to beat. It wouldn't be much fun to watch me just cast DarkMatter over and over again though.
This version of Magus is a LOT stronger than the one you fight earlier in the game...for proof you can watch my Magus vs Magus video.
1. If I was going for speed I would have spammed DarkMatter, instead of just using it 3 or 4 times. But how interesting would that be to watch? That wasn't my purpose, so your criticism is invalid.
2. You obviously didn't bother to watch "Magus solo vs Lavos part 2", just below this video, that shows me killing the last form.
Listen guys. I am so sure of this. I don't know exactly when, but if you fight Lavos out of the bucket at some point and you're not using Magus, if you let all your charecters die Magus walks up and you fight with him alone. I'm not even kidding here, I remember this from when I was a kid. Try it out and you'll see.
You're confusing "remakes" with "ports". Ports are basically identical, while remakes can take quite a few liberties.
Chrono Trigger DS was very nearly a port--other than a few additions here and there, and a new translation, it's the same. Final Fantasy IV DS, meanwhile, was definitely a remake--it looks MUCH different from the original.

overall darkmatter is stronger than luminaire only because most enemies arent as weaken to shadow magic as to light magic thats why luminaire takes more damage than darkmatter. imagine if magus had luminaire and flare too with darkmatter his luminaire would be even greater than crono's because of his expertise as a wizard
1. After putting Magus in the first character slot, I used a couple of PAR codes (7E2981EE and 7E2982EE), which effectively makes the 2nd and 3rd character disappear.
2. Nope! Though there is some evidence that an 8th character was planned, there is NO WAY that it was Schala. She doesn't even have a complete sprite set.
Well, DS's specs really are better...SNES could only display 256 colors at a time, DS can display several hundred times that at once...I believe the resolution's better on the DS as well. Still, I was pretty happy to see they kept the DS version of Chrono Trigger more or less the same as the original.
@DarkD11 plus Xenogears has a few subtle homages to Chrono Trigger, like the three sages, the zeal themes, some of the music etc... it's drawback is being very wordy, long and convoluted where chrono trigger is short, entertaining and perfect
Which Final Fantasy? If you're talking FFVI or later then no, Chrono Trigger came first. And how does "Final Fantasy comes first" mean that Chrono Trigger sucks? There's no logic there.

(1) Without PAR codes it is only possible to solo Lavos with Crono.

Nope, other than the codes to get Magus by himself, I didn't use any cheats. Magus is level 99 here and is using the Doomsickle--that weapon gives x3 attack when Magus' allies are dead (or, like here, when he's on his own).
Nope. I'm crossing my fingers for a full 3D remake, but it doesn't look like it'll happen anytime soon. You'd think as popular as Chrono's been, they'd either do that or make Chrono Break...
For anyone other than Crono, you have to use Pro Action Replay codes. Because I'm lazy, I'll just tell you the correct ones to use are buried in the comments here somewhere :)
Pro Action Replay codes...it's not possible to do this any other way. (Though, to be fair: you could just bring 2 other party members along & let them die on the first attack.)
Can't be done--WizardBlackForever is full of crap. It's not even possible through hacking as the data needed (moves, spells, sprites, etc.) aren't present in the game's memory.
Check the video description...the only way to do this is with Pro Action Replay codes. (Though you could just let your other two characters die when fighting Lavos...)
Alright, I did it again. You have to fight the first stage of Lavos in the bucket, have Magus and revived Chrono, and die. Magus just walks over and you fight solo.
No I meant Frieza...because look at the purple on top of the head, just like Frieza and and the white face. I know that Cell had purple around his eyes and down his cheeks.
In a way though, it may make some sense. Is it possible that, just as Lavos affected humankind's evolution, humans affected Lavos' own evoluation/maturation to some degree?
The sound of the metal clank when Lavos opens its chest always sounded badass to me as a kid growing up lmao. Such an epic final boss.

Wow! This is almost like a Dragon Ball Z battle (LOL). Hero battles villain. After many attacks the villain transforms into an even more powerful form.
Read the video description. The actual codes I used are buried somewhere in the comments--it'll take you a couple minutes to find them but they're there!
Just play long enough, and you could have three maxed out characters...I probably played this one game file 150-200 hours to get a maxed out Magus.
jtrevor99 - did you have a Chrono Solo against Lavos? And could you tell me what you used for this vid? Should I do a Chrono Solo or does it matter?

The maxed out levels and 99 items are all legit though.
I have already posted the final fight. I'm not planning to post the outer shell fight anytime soon (personally I find it rather boring...)

@hotboxingisfun i just said that square soft and enix wasn't fused together yet . My point was : square soft RPG's are a million times better than any of Enix's releases. The Big boss of Enix has too much influence on the Squaresoft Big Boss. Even with the fusion they made and that is the end of the world for me :(
Why did they change the whole gameplay of final fantasies since the FFX-2 was released? why did they made of final fantasy a terrible linear game? ENIX president ... end of story!
@RockRebel1998 Lol. ***SPOILER ALERT*** Okay here's the dillio, Magus is actually Janus. He's pissed off because Lavos took his sister away so he swears to kill Lavos. Lavos is the one that actually kills Chrono. You meet up with Magus later and he's all hating on Chrono which the others find disrespectful, so you can opt to kill him or have him join your party. If you do kill him though, during certain endings Frog turns into Glenn from Chrono Cross.
No, it's not. I played it a while ago, but I can safely say that the game really didn't appeal to me at all. You have to fight the last boss like five times if you don't know what you're doing. Chrono Trigger has a great storyline, and was arguably the best RPG on the SNES. Play this before you get into chrono cross. And if you don't like Chrono Cross, then you won't be hitting yourself over it. 'Nuf said.
Not Really.... when you Chrono dies, Magus talks that he waited a long to revenge... I don't think that he's a bad guy, he just don't care about anyone or anything... he just seeks for a revenge against Lavos... Remember: Lavos Killed his sister and also let his mom crazy....

Well...maybe so but the argue it's not about what's cooler anyway XD (by the way i think luminare is cooler :P) and well, if you want to believe i'm a liar that's fine! ^^ i did it, and that's what matters to me, if you try it as i say so, with the tab's maxed and the level maxed too you'll be able to, if you don't that's fine too mate, don't trip ^^

Some would argue they didn't change the names, but that they're more accurate translations of the original Japanese...
