Here’s something a little different. This is a song from 1936 that was made famous by Frank Sinatra in 1964. For this song I start out real slow like the Tony Bennett version and when I get to the end, I bring in the Frank Sinatra intro from the famous Nelson Riddle arrangement that start with the saxes. Pay attention to the bass lines - I’m using no music to this, I’m just playing my interpretation of listening to the song, and I’m swinging as much as I can. Is it the right way to play? Probably not - but it’s my way. I hope you enjoy.

You always present the most beautiful playing. You know exactly what to do. I'm no master musician but I know something good when I'm listening to it. My great uncle jack Abbott had his own Orchestra, and he did a wonderful arrangement to Amapola. My other great-uncle Daniel Abbott was the Chicago Symphony concert pianist, and my father was an MGM Studio musician. He was in the movie Meet Danny Wilson, Singing in the Rain, and when MGM said the musicals weren't bringing home the bacon anymore and they fired 50% of the musicians my dad passed his bar exam and became a contract attorney for the musicians union. He was a member of the Chicago Federation musicians local 10-208. I've been around music all my life I've heard a lot of people play on UA-cam but you are my favorite. My dad's weapon of choice was the trumpet he had a tone just like Harry James. But he could tickle the ivories on our baby grand, and hit the drums very well. But you could tickle the ivories the death! That was just beautiful. Do you think you can make a video sometime where you play the song tenderly?

Simply magic! Was wandering home through the rain; falling miserable and with autumnal animosity, driven snarling into crashing sheets by the gusts and dank resent in the clouds.
Picked this at random from a piano solo cover search and I was transported. Felt as if a summer evening garden party just begun; lit with festoon lighting, good company all around and warm like the memory of summer. Distinctly not damp or dreary and.... ok, I was a tiny bit stoned but nonetheless! 😂Completely transported - such a well arranged, intricate rendering of a genuinely beautiful piece of music. Astounding version and so flawlessly executed. In complete respect and throughly impressed, I was utterly absorbed in that wondrous sound!

Hi. Thanks alot for the Tony Bennett version. I love to sing. We've never met. But we sounded great together!! Clever the way you changed tempo so effortlessly. I wish you'd do the same with April in Paris. I love to sing it as more of a ballad. But I can only ever get the Louis Armstrong version. (Still lovely. But it doesn't suit my voice as much).
I love getting comments like this. I’m glad we sounded good together :) April in Paris - that’s a lovely song. It’s been years since I’ve played it, and I don’t think I’ve done it as a ballad. I always put a little swing into it. Thank you for suggesting it. I’ll post the link here when I’ve played around with it.
