The toxic culture in the entertainment industry took a bright life away from the world; a life, whose job and passion inspired us.

The fact that someone like Godfrey Gao a model, who was originally going to be a professional basketball player, who is so fit had a cardiac arrest shows just how intense this program is. The program needs to be cancelled.

Thanks for exposing this…… until now I cried every time I remembered Godfrey. He’s my favorite actor, a very good person, a philanthropist, an advocate for change, a very honest and humble person. So sad he died at the prime of his career. It took me so long to accept that he died. He was a dreamer…..a very beautiful person in and out. Now he’s an angel in heaven. Always remember that we love you Godfrey…… I kept watching your movies and cried. You’re a legend.

I cried the whole morning after receiving the news. I have been following him since his first appearance in Mortal Instruments and very much looking forwards to his new drama next year. I cannot help but think about what if, what if he hadn’t come to the show, what if he had stayed in Canada... everything is too late now. The world will never be the same, my world will never be the same without Godfrey Gao. Rest in peace, you will always be remembered.
It's been 2 years and I still can't get over his death. 😭😭 I just remembered him out of the blue 2 days ago and he's all I can think of right now. It fcking hurts.
I never heard of him before but I totally agree what you've said on all the bullshit the Chinese Government/Production company. As a person who is in the medical field this is a preventable death in my opinion. I don't know his medical history but waiting for medical attention 4-5 minutes is just ridiculous (young or old)!! I hope actors/actresses learn from this and add a clause in their contract that paramedic needs to be on set and producers must call for help IMMEDIATELY when they collapsed. I give my condolence to his family and friends.
I feel that Chinese artists are overworked. Xiao Zhan didn't even have a good sleep for almost 2 weeks. Dilraba Dilmurat also hasn't rest for 4 years, also, when she was filming for Diamond Lover, i read an article, when her grandma was dying and asked her to come quickly because she wants to see Dilraba, the drama crew did not allow her to take one day off as it would delay the filming process. Dilireba called her family every hour for updates, and even begged to leave filming as she could not focus at all. Gosh, i feel bad :(. I love godfrey so much, he's one of my biggest crush in the cinema world
doesn't compare to HK stars were extremely overworked. It was common for them to shoot 4 films simultaneously during the 80s. Andy Lau said he averaged 3 to 0 hours sleep nightly. No wonder so many HK stars died young with overstressed lives.

Related to overwork I read that Deng Lun at one time didn’t get to sleep for more than 50 hours straight…not clear. if it’s job related like Dilraba’s
It's such a tragedy. The news I have heard about his death was so vague that I didn't really understand how he passed away, but I think you did a good job clarifying what possibly went down. It's really sad to think that if someone on set reacted just a bit faster, he could've been saved. RIP Godfrey Gao

This is a shameful reality of the TV industry. Many Asian film industries are becoming infamous day by day. Godfrey Gao did not deserve a painful end. He was very talented.
CPR should have been done immediate and Medical Response Team should have arrived in 2-3 minutes. If this happened to GG in Canada he would survived 100%. The production team should be responsible for his untimely death the program management should have given him 100% attention. We lost an amazing actor in Asia and in Canada. GG should have not continued acting in China and returned to Canada where he belonged and would still be enjoying a bright future. We mourn his death until this date. RIP Godfrey. Will miss you forever in Canada.
I noticed him the first time when he acted in the Mortal Instruments. Undoubtedly, he is one of the most gorgeous Taiwanese actors. How sad he'd end up like this ;'( RIP
He was such a great man! Losing him so soon is a big loss. The only actor/actress I actively follow on social media because he was well rounded, passionate and gave such a positive image for acting. Shut down this TV program that’s puts money ahead of the health of people.
I realized after the tragic news that I've never enjoyed these programs that torture people for fun, I had a schoolmate and years later a coworker who collapsed and passed away, life is really fragile...
This is just like when Selina from S.H.E. went to go film that drama in the boondocks and the set caught fire and she was burned. I don't think she got much compensation from that and it almost killed her and traumatized her for life. I was devastated that happened to her and I am sad that Godfrey was also a victim of poor planning and precaution.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to make this video. There is so much information online, that I honestly did not know what was actually legitimate and what was fake. However, no matter what, I think the producers should definitely be held accountable for this tragedy. But as you explained, when everybody is responsible, then nobody is responsible. Personally, I don't understand why the Chinese authorities allow such "entertainment programmes" to air, since they depict dangerous situations and could possibly have imitators from the viewers, eg kids who think they could perform similar stunts.
this type of programs have been around for a long time, it doesn't trip over any "red tape", such as promoting things that may agitate the "harmony" of the society, nothing political, nothing promiscuous, nothing superstitious, etc.

It wouldn't make a difference with or without contract the Chinese government does not give a shit about their people, at most they would fire the person who was in charge of the game show and he would just go to another job, if it was here uk or the west we would not only fire him we would fine and give him jail time and that show would be cancelled.

This is a horrible and tragic event. Godfrey Gao deserved so much better. I honestly hope someone is punished for this because this industry needs to wake up. I've only known him about him on the peripherals but have admired his gorgeous face a plenty. 😢
Sad, Goddfey passed away at such a young age. He has a promising career. It seems the reality show is a high risk game show. You seem like you know how to resolve this - sue the game sponsor or the show owner. You should be a lawyer. Sue Football and Boxing sponsers and game owners. Football in US cause brain concussion and brain damage. Some players commit suicide. Why has Football game not cancel? Boxing cause death too. Why can't you cancel it?
If a contract is unconscionable, it is invalid. Godfrey sacrificed himself for all other acting artists in hope for a better environment. It has been known to the world that Chinese culture can be, at times, a torturous culture without respect to human rights and it seems that people get gratification out of these kinds of tortures by watching them suffer. Hope Godfrey's passing brings common grounds for compassion and harmony for all. Someone has to stand up and stand out to take the responsibility for this wrongdoing!!!
To his family fans accept my sympathy. To me the show should be cancelled and having this tragedy.
I saw the thumbnail and thought I knew the guy from somewhere but couldn't remember where. Then I recalled (Queen of SOP) and a feeling of deep sadness came over me. These actors, you see them act and incarnate characters that make you feel things, they're not really strangers. So yeah, it hurts knowing that he died such a futile death. May he rest in peace. That being said, it's long past time that we, entertainment consumers and producers start recognizing entertainer as people first and foremost. Not just toys or objects of fantasy.

And there is no information really given to people via the news media outlets to know the real reason he passed away.. Which to me is suspicious..

First in for most...Thank you for doing a video on this I fear not only in China but in Korea with the young actors and actress committing suicide... I have no words. We’re not great here in the US regarding our actors,singers but when you start to control them like they do in Korea and then things like this in China. It’s true sad. They are just doing something they love and we as their fans need step in their shoes and feel how it is having some controlling your every moves and having your fans stork you.

Im a fan of Godfrey Gao. I think he has a couple of dramas slated next year. This is too heartbreaking. Also, I’ve seen this show and all the actors-contestants look so exhausted every obstacle. Only a few actors can finish it.

The Directors, Producers, and Writers should try their own contraptions and see what the entertainers go through. What in the world is this show trying to accomplish?, Military late night training!!! It took me some time to face this topic, but it seems, as I thought, they ran Godfrey to death just like a racehorse. And neglected him the same way. I’m infuriated.
Such a sad tragedy but honestly, like you, I doubt much change would come from this. I'd be surprised if Godfrey Gao's family would even be properly compensated by the tv station/studio who owns that show. They'll probably quickly sweep all of this under the rug soon because they're counting on the public's short term memory. It's really so sad. Hopefully karma will eventually get those who put their stupid show over the safety and lives of people.

Thank you for sharing your experience and the facts of this industry. It is tragic and this programme seems to gain popularity and profit at the expense of its actors. Cruel and unjust, something has to be done, immediately. I feel for Godfrey's mum, family. He was so young, in his prime years of life, yet cut short by tragedy which could have been avoided. Gone too soon, too soon!
So, no one thinks it’s odd that no photos were taken of Godfrey leading up to the competition?! Like, what did he do that day? Did he give interviews…did he talk to friends and family? Did they know he was a contestant?

I was in shock when I heard about his passing. I didn't know how or why. But for show or programs like this, dont they have first aid or paramedics incase anything like this happens???
Apparently not. Remember this is China, not the USA or some other countries where there are strict legalities in contracts and things like workers' rights laws.
Why hasn't this show and channel been shut down, to loose such a beautiful person with a bright future there is no excuse, they should take full responsibility. He will be missed, such a bright star gone from this world, my respects and condolences to the family. 😢

I actually found out the news through your post yesterday. It was already night time but seriously the more I read about the details, the more angry and 惋惜 I feel. He was young and fit, probably didn't have any heart or health problems, ( or else I don't think he would've went on this program) if he had just gotten the medical attention he needed on time, there's a very high chance he would've survived. It's just such a meaningless death...
The only way to change things is to boycott those tv programmes, otherwise nothing will change.
I know it won't happen, people will keep watching but one can dream.

Its very sad a young man dies because those who want to make the most money out of a successful show didn't do enough to make sure all the competitors were safe, that is what this looks and sounds like. People may be young but youth is not confirmation there are no unknown, unrecognized problems. I think I said this in one of the other channels I'm subscribed to, if he was given "immediate" medical attention, he could've been saved. The first 30 seconds to 3 minutes is crucial, anyone with medical knowledge knows this. He could've been saved. It was such a waste, and he's starting to get known to international fans, he had a bright future, now poof! Goner. All because of wanting to shoot some more?
I think you're familiar with the show Running Man, jie? The original one, from South Korea, that show in its early days, was extremely exhausting, they also have to chase each other grabbing each other's name tags, the show has been running for 10 or more years, but nothing like this happened. Yes, we can see participants being exhausted but, they get medical attention as quickly as possible.
I was actually crying when I got some more information about it, because I got so angry, that such a life and talent was stripped away, either by carelessness, recklessness or being greedy for some content. How is a few seconds of content on tv more important than saving his life?! 💔😭
I hope the people behind this gets what they deserve, eventually,and I hope what they get is a hundred fold worst than this young talent had suffered. 🤧

True im a fan of RM but members and guests have not come to a point where there is a severe injury that happened and also they’ve changed some format of the show to consider the growing age and limit of the casts
I notice that ever since I've watched CDrama and I do have a favorite actors and actresses that I love. And i notice while filming the drama., they would fly many different places to film😳 and they would fly back and forth to do other photo shoots or get involved in a variety shows etc etc and fly back to continue finishing up filming. Its insane!! Ohhh and once they finally Done! They will have them do another drama (non stop). With many episodes (again) As the cycle continues for these actors.It was none stop for Chinese industry for actors and actresses. As u can see ..when the fans waited for their idols at the airport. They look very tired and crabby. so they would use mask not only to cover up bad air pollution. But to also to cover up their exhaustion.
Many young people in their 20s were also dying just like that dropping dead -- from exhaustion. They worked in the IT industry like Byte Dance, Alibaba etc etc who promoted the 9am to 9 pm work day and also 6 days a week. 996. Then the govt stepped in and started to regulate the industry better -- so its not so bad. So in China, its not just the film industry -- its the state of affairs across industries and across the country. From factories to regular offices they work insane punishing hours. And school children study 12 - 16 hours a day. A lot has to be changed. Its the same in all the other TIger economies, Korea, Japan, taiwan, Hong Kong etc

Really? There was no-one on the scene to do CPR? You don't need a diploma for that. I'm so angry right now. The people in charge should pe sued for not correspondingly prepare in case something happens. The doctors should be close to the participants or at least they shoud have some points where to consult the participants if they feel sick. I hope someone will sue the company and it will stop producing shows.
Legalities in China are completely different than those in Western countries. I'd be extremely surprised if there was any legal action or compensation, you heard her read the disclaimer they made about how they sign away any rights to do so in their contracts.

I have to say I had a similar thought, why are these style if tv shows even a thing. Its awful. I don't want to see other people tortured, it's not amusing. And now we have lost a young man unnecessarily. Its a sad situation and I just hope it might garner some change.

Song Yuqi from my favourite kpop group (g)idle, and also Lucas from WayV, just went to film that program a few days before this tragedy occurred. And when I heard of the news, my heart was filled with not only sadness but also horror at what could've happened to other guests on that show.
Yuqi, for instance, was very afraid of height. And yet the program made her "fly" between two really tall buildings on a string. When she was about to jump, she hesitated and was screaming "no I can't do this!", but the person behind her just PUSHED her down.
I know she is very young and healthy but WHAT IF she had a heart attack or other extreme reaction??!!
This is how I feel too. I don't know this program, nor do I really know this actor, but another actor I like was on the same episode as Godfrey Gao and if it was him in this situation I would be even sadder and angrier than I am now.

In USA, we have Fear Factor and they do horrendous stunts to just regular people to win a big money prize. I often wonder why people think this is fun to watch and allowed to go on, just like the one in China needs outlawed and taken off the air. Diliraba looks sad beyond belief. You can see it in her eyes even if she is smiling. She needs a vacation. The actors need protection.

My interest started with The Untamed and the actors Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan. Since then I am always thinking why the hell is china so crazy?? I mean no vacations for years, no family visits , no days off ??? !!! Why is that so??
I mean actors are humans not robots!! Why don't they care about their so called moneymaking machines ?? Is it because there are so many new ones waiting for an opportunity ??

Xiao Zhan for example is hardworking non stop right now he lost so much weight and looks so damn tired that as a fan I really get worried about him. I mean in other countries are vacations, days off and family visits totally normal and they make money too so why must it be so extrem??
And another thing I couldn't understand is how can 25 or 28 being to old for singing and acting?? I mean seriously?? where is the logic in this ? In my home country you can say even a 30-40 year old can start an acting or singing career if he wants to and is good enough....

As a Nurse I am completely shocked right now and angry-.- I totally agree with you, such a show is so unnecessary-.- Especially when they don't look after the participants in a corret and healthy way.
this show should be cancelled and the responsible ones should be judged for what they have done or better not done-.-
He was young and healthy right?! so if this idiot of a camera man would have reacted immediately than maybe he would be still alive right now -.- what an unnecessary tragically death seriously-.-
I fell so sorry for his familiy and friends really. Wish them all the strength and love they need to overcome this great loss.
I really hope other actors and idols won't go to this show anymore , and I can't understand fans who want to see their idol suffering O.o
I would never ever want to see Wang Xibo, Xiao Zhan or Yang Yang suffer like that, or get hurt or what ever... People who love to watch such stuff are not normal for me sorry-.-
