Coronavirus Is Helping the Environment - for Now

  • The pandemic closing factories and keeping cars off roads may be good for emissions, but all of those gains are short term. While millions of workers are spending days at home, the Trump administration hasn’t dropped its work to counteract environmental progress. Today, it’s set to announce one of the most sweeping and consequential regulatory rollbacks of Trump’s presidency: a reversal of vehicle emissions standards enacted by the Obama administration.
The old rule forced auto-makers to increase fuel efficiency year-by-year at a rate of 5%, by taking mileage and emissions into account. Now car-makers will only have to increase efficiency by just 1.5% year-over-year. The rule was already in the works before the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the U.S., and it comes after the EPA announced it is no longer requiring companies to comply with a wide swath of environmental laws if they cite the pandemic.
So while pollution may be down for the time being in a few big cities in the U.S., a trend that’s playing out in India and in Hubei province, where levels of nitrogen dioxide fell by 40% during a strict lockdown, government moves to boost withering economies could turn back that progress.
As Hubei province opens back up, drivers are getting back behind the wheel, and auto-makers are back at work. Plans to reignite China’s economy could also reignite pollution-a report released by the NGO Global Energy Monitor found that China has approved plans for more coal-fired power capacity in the first three weeks of March than in all of 2019.
In the U.S., the congressional bailout package is helping fuel-inefficient airlines, while shunning the sector responsible for two of the fastest-growing occupations in the country: solar and wind technicians.
VICE News spoke to the CEO of the American Wind Energy Association, about what this means for the future of renewable energy, and for our climate.

Comdeia Divina -that’s exactly what we are doing, but it’s not directly associated with the small percentage of pollution we produce. I think that’s why people in the media think we are not doing anything, before we run into a serious warm house effect we will reach a bigger problem which is our current models can’t support our future energy consumption demands. Yet what people fail to realize is that by creating more efficient models we will decrease pollution since we already know that using coal and fuel are not efficient overall.

Bacteria will mutate themselves to adapt to that warmer climate. And humans aren’t capable of mutating, we’re only capable of adjusting here and there to the conditions. But not to such an extreme like climate change. We’re capable of adapting to a 1 or 2 degree Celcius change, not more than that. So there’ll be more infections in the future, because of the already-weakened immune systems in our body thanks to air pollution and climate change.

No it won't because nature isn't a single hive mind organism and can't formulate thoughts or opinions. Stop personifying something that is nothing more than the biosphere made up of millions of separate creatures that interact with each other. Nature is as sentient as a city is, its nothing more than animals, plants, fungi, and bacteria interacting on a massive scale.
Nature doesn't care one way or another if the whole planet is rendered uninhabitable, because it is not self aware and capable of thought or opinion. The Gaia hypothesis was more mysticism and pseudoscience and not based on anything, as the whole hypothesis was created James Lovelock.
In Joseph Lawrence's book, Gaia: The Growth of an Idea, Lawrence argued that Kirchner's attacks were principally against Lovelock's integrity, and not against the hypothesis itself. Lovelock did not attack Kirchner's views until his autobiography Homage to Gaia, in which he dismissed Kirchner's position as sophistry. Lovelock, however, did attempt to disprove the claim that the theory is not scientific because it is impossible to test it by researching and developing a controlled experiment, i.e., it is not falsifiable.
Lovelock was also careful to present a version of the Gaia hypothesis which had no claim that the Earth's biological systems intentionally or consciously maintained the complex balance in the environment that life needed to survive. Instead, it appears that the claim that Earth acts intentionally was a metaphoric statement and was not meant to be taken literally. This restatement of the Gaia hypothesis was more acceptable to the scientific community, although, at this point, pretty much devoid of meaning.
The progenitor of the Gaian entire school of thought said it wasn't to be take literally and was only a metaphoric statement , and not to be take literally.
Most of the systems used as examples or explanations to support this "hypothesis" make no sense in regard to the reality of how life has evolved and the environment has changed.
While, among other factors, life on Earth certainly alters the environment, the life that then is seen thriving evolved and adapted to do so, thus there is no magical mechanism that endlessly returns conditions to some "ideal" balance. This is easiest to see over longer terms - before plants started photosynthesizing, there was no free oxygen in the atmosphere - and when they did, there was a mass extinction of creatures to whom it was poisonous; this was known as the Great Oxygenation Event.
Also, according to most scientific critics, especially Dawkins and Ford Doolittle, the Gaia hypothesis requires an ecological foresight and teleologism to be true, concepts that are not scientifically viable, and are considered about as scientific as intelligent design.
