One of my favorite memories was riding in a B-24 in 2012. I sat right behind the pilot and right across from me was a plaque that said "Built by Ford at Willow Run". As a Ford man, I couldn't have asked for better.

My mother was a "Rosie the Riveter." She fabricated speed rings and wing sections at a subcontracting company in Detroit that were trucked to the Willow Run plant.

Lest we forget, the credit goes to Edsel Ford for that undertaking & success, and rightfully so.

That’s correct, Edsel has never gotten the credit he deserves, from the Model A forward till his early death, his contributions to manufacturing reflect his natural genius… it is truly unfortunate that they named that ugly car after him.

@@aerialcat1 I think that car is beautiful. It was ahead of its time in design and features, like Edsel was ahead of his time. The car now is a cult classic and is worth quite a bit of money.

@@bad74maverick1 Ugly was too harsh, it was the grille treatment, that the most pointed to as being weird, the car was actually very nice but unnecessary in the Ford lineup, Mercury already filled that niche.

I was doing a History class project by reading Time magazine for all 1945. By mid year I began to GM doing ads for new civilian automobiles….

I toured the Ford museum at Dearborn 10 years ago and was amazed and disgusted to realize that there was NOT ONE display referring to Ford's massive contribution to war production in either of the WWs. What, are they ashamed of their contribution to victory over fascism? I asked the curator about this at the time and got just a blank stare!

@Neil Robinson - I couldn't agree more with what you have said. Ford, and other companies, made massive contributions to the Allied war effort and that should NEVER be forgotten!
