If they were together, they would both die. Ennis was aware of this and was controlling his emotions, Jake could not. Finally he died. Be realistic, Gays "ALWAYS" Murdered in that city.
his heart wasn't made of Stone. He was scared shitless. That was a hard fucking time to be gay man and not everybody was equipped to handle at the same way.
I know it doesn’t make a difference, but his death may have saved my life. I’ve always struggled with insomnia and anxiety. I knew it wasn’t good that I was taking 4-5 times my prescribed dosage of two different benzodiazepines and codeine. I just wanted to sleep and they worked. When his death and autopsy results came out, I talked to my doctor about weening off of them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it opened some other people’s eyes to the seriousness of prescription drug abuse.

He should have left Ennis. He deserved better. He should have never married that girl either. He should found a man he could be with forever and never feel deprived. Feeling deprived in a relationship is the worst feeling. But it’s a movie and written this way.
Many years ago I fell in love with another man, in fact 40 years ago. I loved him so much it almost hurt. Sadly he didn't in the end want what I wanted, and went on to marry and have children. I eventually met a lovely guy we married and live a good life. But the hurt of loosing my first true love never truly went away, it is a like a part of me died with the ending of that relationship. I never felt the same again.
I remember when he said "needing somthing" and "how bad it gets" was like an electric lightning bolt to all of us in the closet. I had never seen in on TV or in film I thought I was the only one! In 2005! And I'm a millennial. How times change!
People make all kinds of jokes about this movie but fail to see this is one of the greatest love stories no matter how you see it. Up there with the notebook no doubt
I found this movie to be very cruel. Two cruel greedy men who did not have the ball to be themselves. They both took on wife’s and children, never once did they think of what their life would be like, never once thinking how they are not hurting their wife and children for not truly and fully lovinging them. The had them or used them so they could “fit” in to society without being questioned. They both should have been single man, never marrying or having a family. That’s what I thought and saw with this move. Two cruel people, willing to hurt others; so long as they don’t get hurt. Yea I know Jake does, but he still married that woman who he definitely did not love.
We couldn't blame Ennis to refuse being together with Jack for a good life, for their future. He had a childhood dark memory which was shown by his father. I suppose.
