  • In the past, syncing up the Garmin data to the video was always a chore but now, since Garmin is no longer allowing/supporting the use of Google Maps for the location (telemetry), it makes it MUCH MORE difficult to sync the data. All-in-all, it came out okay but the last minute or so did not sync properly, when going up Icebreaker into Timber Ridge. Regardless, you'll get the general idea of the course, with the exception of the airport, Madeline's Trail, and the last mile or so that is always a surprise before the finish.
Notable segments of the course are listed below. You can click on the link and it will take you right to that point on the course.
This is video footage from a pre-ride of the 2023 Iceman Cometh Challenge course. The data from my Garmin registered: Distance (26.62 mi), Riding Time (2:33:43), Elevation Gain (1,755 ft). I rode with three others and all of their data registered 28+ miles, so I'm not sure why there was a discrepancy with mine. The weather worked out for us on that ride as the forecast for the following seven days called for rain, which should pack a lot of the existing sand down on the course.
This footage contains all of the trail starting from the Kalkaska snowmobile trailhead off Island Lake Rd., so the course will be about 30 miles with the airport section and the finish in Timber Ridge included.

Thanks so much. As your video last year did, really helps. You certainly have great knowledge of the multipule variations of the race.

Great video! What size tire and pressure are you running front and back?

Great video. Are you using a Go Pro to record the race footage with a chest harness? What settings are you using to allow for getting a full race on a single battery?

@ToddRussell-l6l Thanks, Todd. I am, with a Chesty harness. I have an old school GP Hero Silver 3 and I use a GP BacPac with it. It gives me over 4 hours of footage. I've thought about switching over to a newer camera with a gimbal and cooler features, like the Insta360, but the battery life has been the major reason why I stick with this.

@@shotpointm28 Thanks for the info. What are your recording settings as far as quality, format (wide vs standard), Etc.
