- This is video footage from the 2021 Ore to Shore (O2S) 48-Mile Hard Rock 08.14.21 shot with a GoPro Hero Silver 3 and Garmin VIRB Edit used for editing. This was my third year doing the O2S, and the second year doing the Hard Rock. The Hard Rock is front loaded with some tough hills and terrain but joins up with the Soft Rock course about 23 miles in. A safe ride over all...dropped a chain once, my seat kept tilting up on me, and I had some ghost shifting right before the finish but I can't really complain about any of that. UPDATE: It turned out that my rear derailleur cable had frayed during the race and was only hanging on by one stand, hence the shifting issues at the end.
The data from my Garmin registered: Distance (46.05 mi), Riding Time (03:46:47), Elevation Gain (2,618 ft). The weather was phenomenal and it was a fun race, although this one always kicks my butt. This footage contains the entire course which includes almost all of the Soft Rock (28 mile) course as well.
Notable parts of the race are listed below. I listed the different segments which I got off the bike because this is the first race I ever had to get off the bike.

Filming: I use the GoPro Hero 3 Plus Silver with a Chesty mount. For rides over two (2) hours, I use the GoPro Battery BacPac which is supposed to provide another two (2) hours of power. When using the BacPac, use the original battery along with the BacPac.
Data: I use the Garmin Edge 520.
Editing: I use Garmin Virb at 720p 30fps at High quality. It's shot in 1080p but doesn't transfer well and takes longer to process than 720p.
My Brother Justin, star of the start! Although I never put together you're Colin. lol. I'll be riding with you guys this year here. Cheers!
Nice video...what type of bike are you riding? I see lots of hardtails, is that better suited than full suspension bike for this race?
Hey Scott, I ride a 2010 Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper HT. I've ridden that in all of these races and love it. Most of my buddies ride HT and some ride FS but I have only ridden HT. There's some pavement on here so you'd want to lock out your rear. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Hey that's me. NICE 👍
Was that you in the 906 jersey, Luke Erickson? If so, I was trying to run ya down at the end, too!
