- We are in Keighley on Saturday 11th Feb 2012 for this video of the LNWR Super D 49442. Initially the loco is shunting a rake of carriages and then the goods train, which it eventually takes it up to Oxenhope. It returns on a passenger train and, after taking on water, returns to Oxenhope.
Lovely evocative sights and sounds. I grew up next to the South Staffs line at Pelsall in the 70s, and enjoyed this video to try and experience some sense what my late Dad would have experienced in the 50s/60s. He took some snaps (sadly lost now) of these old characters dragging good trains past our fields and up at Norton Junction, where I believe a G2 was the regular hump shunter on duty, well within earshot of home. Love the uneven but determined beat and plaintive whistle ! I hope she gets back in service some day.

Great Video. Lovely old relic of the LNWR - and should be in an LNWR livery too. Likewise the Webb Coal Tank.
Is 49442 preserved aswell or is that just 49395 remembered? As far as I can tell 49442 was cut up in 1961 but these images clearly show the engine numbered as 49442.

Great video Abating, wish I had got to see this old girl at the time, I fear now I will never see it in steam. Do you know what gave the old super D her distinctive exhaust beat?
It's probably the Joy valve gear, which was anything but a joy to set properly, from what I've heard.
@@sharkymcsharknose2979 Thanks for that info. My late father always wanted to see her but he passed away 16 years ago. He held fond memories of these old girls waiting with long coal trains to come off the Midland line from Leicester at Rugby in the mid 1930's.
@@nigelmitchell351 You're welcome. That's a fond memory for your father. Unfortunately the G2 is inoperable at the moment but hopefully it will steam again. I'd like to see it in person too!

This is No.49395 with a temporary number change to "stand in" as long scrapped No.49442 for the gala
