Attention Helldivers,
Due to technical issues at the launch of HELLDIVERS™ 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire. See details below in this post.
Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behavior. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal.
As such, as of May 6th, all new HELLDIVERS 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Current players on Steam will start to see the mandatory login from May 30th and will be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4th. PlayStation Network accounts are free and easy to set up using this link

sony is killing the golden goose and arrowhead doesnt have a say, unless perhaps they can convince sony after showing them the player response and the data. America is going to wake up soon and if its bad now, the US player population is going to explode waking up to this.
HD2 bucked the trend of live services not being able to retain their player base a few weeks after release, with every metric showing it can retain players long term and seeing this, sony wasnt expect this game to succeed and now they want to jump onto it to boost their current quarter and leech it dry even if it kills the game in the short term, let alone the long term. Arrowhead dont really have much of a choice in this and sony have shown in the past that they are completely willing to kill a game in the process.

And making a PSN account using false information (for example saying your from a country where PSN is available) is against TOS and will result in your account being terminated.

Sony have been completely willing in the past to tank a game into the ground. I doubt they will back off. Especially because HD2's sustained success is unprecedented for a live service game.
If a few thousends create a psn acount then i guess they dont care what happens to the pc playerbase... Remember these exclusive games are mostly an add to get people to their ecosystem. Nothing else.

I honestly think the only reason Sony's making arrowhead do this detrimental bullshit is because of people getting rid of their PSN subscriptions in protest to what they did towards stellar blade.
Edit: after looking around I found out that this is purely Sony's doing and arrowhead has nothing to do with it nor any say in it whatsoever this is Sony's machinations.

Not everyone has a PlayStation or is available to make an account because it not available in their country, and you know what will happen players count will drop due to this dogass bullshit linking and over time the game will die because of Sony

I don't really care about the mandatory PSN account since I have already linked to mine before starting to play the first time. But I will totally drop the game if they have the balls to ask a fee to play on PC.

People, I've been a pc master race person for years, They're doing this for good reason. It's required to link account because Playstation handles the Ban system. Steam doesn't. You don't get VAC banned in this.
To explain this further, Take sea of thieves, for a long time it had a problem of cheaters, People on steam would play sea of thieves with cheats on, And once it gets detected by the game, Their xbox account gets banned, and guess what the players did? They just made a new Xbox account and used the same steam account again. All it basically took was just creating a new account, They didn't even have to buy the game again on a different profile. Till they eventually tightened up the security and started hardware banning people and there's still workarounds to this. (none of which still involves them playing on a new steam account, they get to just use it again and again).
So to prevent issues like this, if they bind the psn and steam acc as one in the game, it will be easier to ban abusers, cheaters and what not. They'll have to create a whole new steam account and buy the game again and start playing from scratch on a different account in this case. This , is good.
nah. they're doing it for the data, and its going to kill the game when players who dont have access to psn, dont want yet another account or any myriad number of circumstances, just drop it. The years have been filled with multiple user data leaks from sony.

So by that logic all the other games that don't require you to have a publisher account can't ban cheaters? Using that same logic, Sony will so require everyone to subscribe to psn + to play because we put a strain on there servers

@@Loothy88 they can ban cheaters, but as a member that's active on the hacking forums, I'm telling you, this game needs this. The default built in "Game guardian" anti - cheat is what modders and hackers consider "ancient". It's why literally everyone can get into the files and spawn in unreleased stratagems, and equip the unreleased Armors.
As for the other games that don't require any publisher account, it's because they have an industry leading level anti cheat (battle eye, or Easy anti cheat). Which is much harder to get around.

This is a pure attempt to collect data on players/link players to their life services. Players get nothing from this.

it was purely optional, meaning PC players could still play without knowing what the F is PSN account. But now they force them to either acknowledge its existence, or quit
