2020 has made me happier than I've ever been in my life. Everyone changes, but I stay the same. I call myself a Christian atheist because, when I was five years old, we were learning about Jesus, and I thought to myself 'You know... That guy seems pretty chill, I think everyone ought to be a bit more like that guy'. Of course, I didn't actually think that, because I was five, in all likelihood a teacher told us we should strive to be like Jesus. It's served me well, too. Who else can roll with prostitutes and drug dealers and still feel comfortable dealing with police? Someone like Jesus. Anyway, having such a contemplative as my role model, I spent my life just being the same, and reminding people that they really ought to have a bit of perspective, and not be constantly ruled by their desires. To recognise that when they're mourning, the best way to cope is to understand that it means one day you will be comforted. Optimism is foolish, maybe, but it works. 2020 has basically been me laughing with friends and listening to remixes of Komm Susser Todd. Just strolling down the street happily whistling a tune the English translation of which is 'Come, sweet death'. Like, the more you all buy these fucking SUVs and what have you, the more time I spend in the infrared sauna as a form of preparation. It's so dumb, and all I can really do is watch UA-cam videos by brilliant creatives and laugh at how dumb it all is.
What's funny is you try introduce these people to Evangelion and they turn away from it 'cause even that's too cringe for them. The insights of Christianity, from Christ to Kierkegaard, are now cringe. Whaddya gonna do?
Oh, I'm also a Taoist. I guess I'm a Buddhist too, but I feel like that's covered by Christianity and Taoism, but, gotta pay respect to the OG contemplative.
To be totally unambiguous: I'm a Christian atheist because I believe Nietzsche literally killed God through some kind of spooky metaphysical writer's magic.
Non sequitur Tu quoque Ad hominem The trifecta of annoying arguments. The left has their own bullshit though, but it's mostly just arguments from authority and post hoc ergo propter hoc which... they're both kinda complicated, I think.
In 3020 they should make a book about 2020: 1. Covid 19 2. Everyone is locked inside their houses 3. Quarantine 4. If you wanna touch something in public you need to wear gloves/hand sanitizer 5. Online classes/ online working 6. Maintain a distance 7. Go outside wearing a mask 😷 8. If you're from outside like from other city/country you need to keep your distance for like 1 meters from your family for maybe 2 weeks
I know 2020 has had it's (significant) problems and I'm not blinding myself to them, but equally I feel it's been a valuable year for me on a personal level, so certainly don't feel it sucks. I guess it comes down to personal perspective
The problem is just cognitive bias. If we see the other as equal and one with ourselves, regardless of their behavior, without judging, just love and acceptance, then we as conscious creatures are heading in a good direction. First, we have to get out of our own heads in a sense.

really good video I was thinking about many things and I think your process made me feel a lot more at ease, but in a confident way rather than a complacent way thanks
“Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do little.” - Edmund Bruke I wish we all had this mindset. Instead of feeding cynicism by saying “Well what can I do? I’m just a [insert position here], *a tiny disposable speck in this chaotic universe.* ” To that I say: So is a virus. And look at how much change this microscopic speck brought into this world. I admit I fell into this cynicism before. But after seeing this very insightful video, I regained a little more hope that there will be hope-and it starts in the little things that we can do *now*. To whoever is reading this, may you have faith in yourself and your good actions too.
Reading the comments when sorted by new really hammers in your point about bullshit and people making up easy answers to defer hard questions. It also is fasttracking me towards hopelessness so that's good at least Anyways great video, I hope you aren't reading these comments

Comes the Shit show you wish you could block out with Alcohol... But the Alcohol was mixed with Vinegar and Sulphuric acid comes...2021" the Critics are already contemplating Suicide for the Sequel nobody wanted.
Sick video my guy, just one thing tho. At the beginning of the epilogue you said nothing will be done until we all realize we are fucked. I think everyone knows we are fucked, just disagree on how and why. I find it hard to believe that anybody out there is genuinely ignorant of any of the major threats to the human race, and don’t know that humanity is a critical point in which we must save our planet and ourselves in the process. I think the inaction on the part of the collective of humanity who are conscience of this existential threat stems from an unwillingness to sacrifice the progress we have made and make ourselves uncomfortable in the process. Simply, we are staring the beast in the face, frozen by fear, and waiting for it to consume us all.
Hopelessness being a source for hope, motivation, and will to fix your situation... I can't belive this went through your mind without some red light going off. Hopelessness is above all else irrational. Because if it feels like all hope is lost any action, including inaction, is just as rational as any other action, because we feel it will not matter either way. In a game of chess, if you are stuck in a check mate sequence, every move is as good as any other. However, life is not chess. The rules that life plays by are orders of magnitude higher in complexity. Thus, calling any situation hopeless, is a false loss, even if Houdini himself could not escape it by the power of his wit alone. Accounting for all of this, and assuming we realize the situation is hopeless, it should be obvious that our fate resides in the collective irrational decision of whether to do something that ends up fixing the problem, or do something that makes it worse. Now, how do you stack this equation in the favor of humanity? Realizing you are dum, and so is the rest of humanity certainly tips the scale in favor of annihilation. No, it is a truly destructive statement, and I - a frequent shitposter - am mildly offended by it. We ought to be better, expect better, and demand better of each other. Both in thought and action, and to the point of complete social trust. So that when the great day comes and we realize situation is hopeless, we have the mental fortitude to chose to stand and fight whatever Lovecraftian horror we are facing, together. The video is great, but I'm afraid the last 10 or so minutes are bs. At least the bias is so blatantly obvious in every single topic that i have to conclude it is on purpose to highlight it, which i guess is honest.
@@wonderplaceholder The potential for power is indeed there, but this is not my issue with his argument. My issue is that he presents it as a one sided good thing, and neglects its irrational nature. This means results may vary wildly, from obsessive lust for change and victory, to willful ignorance, depression and ""finding an easy way out""
That was surprisingly uplifting. I've often taken a cynical stance, but this somewhat reignites my want to scream back against the darkness. To hold back the darkness that awaits us in any way I can. 2020 has just felt like the culmination of all my brooding doomer musings, but in a way its good, like a bandaid being ripped off. Because now that it has blown up in such a spectacular method it will hopefully have incensed enough people so as to facilitate meaningful change. A fire is often what is needed to reinvigorate a forest, before a farmer sows his seed he lights his field on fire, this in all honesty might be looked back upon as a good thing in the long run.

I'm spooked here about Alberta being mentioned, twice, how dare vague man on UA-cam dare be aware of my home that most outside are completely unaware of
I'm pretty sure Sisyphus is from our beautiful, damnable prairies, so the criticism is coming from inside the province (as it rightly should)
Great tot
Cheers from Florida. 🍻 Stay warm up there!

This is a great collab, I’ve been hype since you announced it!
Thanks, this is what I needed getting out of a mental hospital

2020 is not even over yet. Look on the other side, it can still always get worse!
Sssssuuuuussssshhhh dont give it ideas ;)
Covid ha. Oh what fools
❤️Just letting you know you are an amazing mind in a sea of zombies... your videos have kept me sane/alive throughout this year. ❤️ Thankyou ❤️
Holy shit never thought I'd see Jregular on this channel even if both kind of touch upon related subjects
Fantastic video! It was challenging to comprehend and I had to rewind a lot but it wasn’t out of my reach. Kudos. Seriously made me think and I learned a lot.
18:13 Of course Sisyphus listens to death grips.
That track is my favorite off Interview 2016 and one of my favorite DG songs, right with on gp, beware, hacker, hot head, klink, pillbox hat,
shit, I just realized that list could go on for at least 20 more songs. check out death grips (AND ANALYZE THEIR LYRICS!!!) they’re amazing.
Thats the type of video, that i ll comeback to watch after time to time.
The other ones that i do that is videos from camus and aldous huxley.
Look into "The Rebel" by camus. It's kind of a sequel to the myth of sisyphus, arguing for rebellion as an answer to the meaningless of life.
@@simonarduin8600 ha. Human impcompetence
This was your best video yet. And the fact that Jreg is in there makes me think that maybe he does care after all.
27:30 The hut depicted in this slide is actually a charcoal hut used in Sweden by workers who once maned the smoldering fires that make charcoal. This practice dwindled in the post-world war II era as factories replaced this more simple work of making charcoal.
That’s kinda hilarious tbh
Non sequitur

The trifecta of annoying arguments.
The left has their own bullshit though, but it's mostly just arguments from authority and post hoc ergo propter hoc which... they're both kinda complicated, I think.
It’s rare that I’m so appreciative of a video I watched on the inner net. ❤️
This was an amazing video, your quality is getting better by the video.
I appreciate your work, thank you!
"This too will pass" smartest words in all of history
both you and Jreg use whatever means you have to create some of the best content on this Godforsaken platform. Love you guys... no homo
Oh my god it's a sisyphus and يريج collaboration!
All is dead
I never expected to hear the soundtrack of Lolita in this context, but weirdly enough it tied the whole video together.
This is the best video I've seen in a long while. Or at least, one that has resonated and moved me most deeply and evocatively. Thanks for this.
This video is really amazing... I don't even know what else to say. Truly made at the right time.
In 3020 they should make a book about 2020:
1. Covid 19
2. Everyone is locked inside their houses
3. Quarantine
4. If you wanna touch something in public you need to wear gloves/hand sanitizer
5. Online classes/ online working
6. Maintain a distance
7. Go outside wearing a mask 😷
8. If you're from outside like from other city/country you need to keep your distance for like 1 meters from your family for maybe 2 weeks
Love the music btw! I was about to ask for a list when I saw you put one at the end of the video.
Great content man, you tip the scale of sanity back into balance.
Jesus Christ that was inspirational af.
Genuinely, great job & thank you.
Thank you for doing this with what's been done to you. I appreciate it.
This is geniunely one of the best videos I've ever seen. Criminallu underrated channel.
I know 2020 has had it's (significant) problems and I'm not blinding myself to them, but equally I feel it's been a valuable year for me on a personal level, so certainly don't feel it sucks. I guess it comes down to personal perspective
Ha, humans are useless
The problem is just cognitive bias. If we see the other as equal and one with ourselves, regardless of their behavior, without judging, just love and acceptance, then we as conscious creatures are heading in a good direction. First, we have to get out of our own heads in a sense.
In short, just listen to Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff for the same experience
The last half decade and the coming half reminds me a lot of the 90s. I hope we get some good angry music out of this.
@@kaankanca4634 Yeah after 2015, things really when downhill.(can't comment much on the 90's since l was born in the early 2000's) I hope do get good angry music out of this as well since everybody will suffer the effects and after effects of this virus and environment it has brought upon us.
@@locochavo4560 definitely but dont hope be apart of it , it wont happen unless someone starts it off
@@Zen-vk2vl True. But there are many someone's in this world that will and have the ablitily to create that type of music one day. Also even if l had the musical and songwriting skills to create music like there's not that much source material l could work off with other that everybody sucks and is wrong without putting in my own biases which goes against that type of music as it is directed towards everyone
@@locochavo4560 I mean a lot of people in the 90s had little to no musical experience and yet still made great music. And now since we have UA-cam we could learn anything really, I play guitar and it amazes me when I would find so many cool underground bands and artists.
In the words of george washington from hamilton an american musical, "history has its eyes on you"
wow the shit where you talk about people taking contradictory or illogical worldviews as part of their identity really neatly sums up a lot of what i've been thinking about the past few months
27:58 "and the potential release of deadly pathogens through melting permafrost"
I just choked on my spit
I feel like humanity will survive these crisis', but a lot of people are gonna have to suffer and die in the process, not so we'll survive it but because they simply couldn't. Terribleness isnt written in anyone's soul but it is disheartening to see so many people be terrible for no other reason than because they're afraid. Great Video.
You're right, it' shaping up to be the worst decade in our lives.
This was awesome, thank you both so much.
This should be youtube rewind 2020
Dissatisfaction of humans
Viewing this in 2023 doesn't provide much assurance.
Gotta say sisyphus if it was anyone but you this video would be a jumble of buzzwords but you somehow lay it all out to make perfect sense

I was thinking about many things and I think your process made me feel a lot more at ease, but in a confident way rather than a complacent way

Finally, the two channels I started watching in the last few months finally did a collab
“Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do little.” - Edmund Bruke
I wish we all had this mindset.
Wow, I wasn't expecting for Bolsonaro to appear, but I guess it fits the topic very well.
39 min, no mid rolls, respect
very well put together video, also liked many of the thinkers you quoted to tie your point together.
Every years sucks! It's not just a 2020 thing!
Reading the comments when sorted by new really hammers in your point about bullshit and people making up easy answers to defer hard questions. It also is fasttracking me towards hopelessness so that's good at least
Anyways great video, I hope you aren't reading these comments
Thanks for this video. Had some ideas I didnt agree with but it made me think alot more. Thanks man :)
I just listened to the David bowie commentary yesterday! Amazing choice for the opening
Just Wait until the Sequel hit's theaters January 1st. Here's the intro (Movie Trailer Voice) "just when you thought 2020 was a Rotting dumpster fire that just keep's saying "But Wait there's MORE!!" Comes the Shit show you wish you could block out with Alcohol... But the Alcohol was mixed with Vinegar and Sulphuric acid comes...2021"
the Critics are already contemplating Suicide for the Sequel nobody wanted.
The last sentence lmao
Sick video my guy, just one thing tho. At the beginning of the epilogue you said nothing will be done until we all realize we are fucked. I think everyone knows we are fucked, just disagree on how and why. I find it hard to believe that anybody out there is genuinely ignorant of any of the major threats to the human race, and don’t know that humanity is a critical point in which we must save our planet and ourselves in the process. I think the inaction on the part of the collective of humanity who are conscience of this existential threat stems from an unwillingness to sacrifice the progress we have made and make ourselves uncomfortable in the process. Simply, we are staring the beast in the face, frozen by fear, and waiting for it to consume us all.
ok so is this the prelude of the canadian century?
18:16 nice use of runway/interview there, can't remember which. Thank you for this video.
why didn't I get the notification for this, literal gold.
Imagine thinking 2021 is gonna be any better than 2020 🤣🤣🤣🤣
22:08 Calvin and hobbes :) seeing it once again after so long makes me so happy
Utopianism is a paradox, it cannot exist.
This means results may vary wildly, from obsessive lust for change and victory, to willful ignorance, depression and ""finding an easy way out""
We are fucked:
didn't we say that last year.... and the year before that.... and the year before that.... and so on?
yup bc we was fucked and still are fucked

You two are polar opposites in style
"the light at the end of the tunnel is the headlight of a train coming to hit us" I'm gonna be using this one
A fire is often what is needed to reinvigorate a forest, before a farmer sows his seed he lights his field on fire, this in all honesty might be looked back upon as a good thing in the long run.
thank you so much for this video!
